9. In we hang our hopes on chandeliers, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote? 

NONE OF IT!!! 

Jk I genuinely honestly enjoyed it... I think some of my faves in this fwic were really, like, the little bits, like Horst drunk or Thomas changing the 1860/Bayern sign, because I had so much fun researching (joins u in the closet) 1954 and just creating that landscape and I feel like the best way to create a different timescape is to make use of all these little things. So I guess my favourite was?? the time itself???? 

but actual scene wise, absolutely the final, because again it isn’t Miro who wins it - it’s the whole team, like. I’ve always had a soft spot for the 1954 germ narrative and I’ve never indulged in it more than I have here!! 

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

I ONLY ANSWER THE ORIGINAL QUESTION!!! BUT URGH FINE... I like writing thomas cos he’s such a shitgoblin and he reminds me of scholesy :v

19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?

I’ve been reading too many WWI books and I rly wanna do WWI bewwiwwe ://// also this isn’t strictly a sequel but there HAS to be more uncle gawwy fwic out there WHY ISNT THERE MORE.

26) Which part of we held the day in the palm of our hands was the hardest to write?

hahahah all of it ! I dunno I really love WWI (not love but you know that historical way of it) - it’s an incredibly emotional conflict, and there are so many narratives about humanity that sorta get tied up in that, but it’s also a hard thing to work around and I’ve seen it done super badly before. I think the hardest part was the ending because god I was tryin’ really hard to sort of put that together, the idea of the before/after/forever. I still don’t know if I like it, but it was worth a shot! 

44) What is the last line you wrote?

9) In the curtain falls, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?

NGL IT’S XABI/GIGI INTERACTION 

ok ngl I love a lot of the scenes just because blade runner imagery is so good and I rly liked when they went to the stadium, but just in terms of emotional whump I think the san gigi / san iker one was my favourite? I didn’t know that san gigi was a thing until i did research and it was just such a beautiful..parallel, and also the whole idea of saints, everlasting against robots - it was mm i liked that

10) In here you are with your faith, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?

IT’S NOT A uhh becks was always going to die and we all knew it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’ve never liked, y’know, happy happy endings. I like endings that are sorta hopeful despite pain? and I think that becks, back on the pitch that was his home, thinking about one of his greatest moments in a united shirt, was that gleaming ray of light in the dark sky kinda moment. it just felt very - fulfilling even though it was sad??? iDK HOW TO EXPLAIN!!! i think the easiest would b to think about it like godot (slam me in a locker pls) - hope in spite of the shittiness of humanity. 

16) How did you come up with the idea for if it seems like i've been lost?

I’M JUST REALLY REALLY SAD ABOUT ENGLAND ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!! someone was askin me to write time twavel fwic and at first i had it down for bloemfontein 2010 but then i read all played out and, like, it was just so pAINFUL and i reaLly had TO  fix THAT!!!! time loop fixes aren’t new but I also wanted to explore the idea of doing it right, that is to say not making it as easy as ‘oh this happened therefore i just have to change it’, so that even when they won they weren’t winning it correctly. it was more important that gawwy wasn’t the hero, because I think that’s reflecting of the engl narrative - there’s a sort of undercurrent of sad nobility in being second best that we’ve always enjoyed. does this make sense again!!! i feel like my brain does all these horribl big concepts that i can never really put into words

26) Which part of it's all about who's standing tomorrow was the hardest to write?

Absolutely the stadium in 1958. I think it’s so hard to get that balance right, y’know, dealing with anything like this - trying to be respectful but also express the emotion you want to. I’ve read things written about 1958 that I really hated, and I’ve read things that just make me break down and stare at the wall for an hour. Not just about respect, but about the sentiment behind it - anything too maudlin also, I think, detracts. It’s very hard!! I hope I did it ok!!!

march: do you listen to music whilst writing?

nope!!! i can’t concentrate bc i’ll 100% get lost in the music (even if it’s instrumental bc my brain is terrible n hotwired that way thx 15 yrs of piano). i do listen when i’m editing tho particularly for fwic very tied to a particular kind of song or mood or playlist (i.e. all the fwics i write for caitwin i wonder why)!

november: do you have any rituals or requirements for getting in the mood for writing?

UHHH no, at least nothing Super Necessary (like me foobaw rituals which are...something else)! I do read stuff sometimes to get into moods, like re-reading all my Vietnam War journalism books when I want to write about war, that kinda thing, but no real like. I must Do This or Sit Here or Type On this Keyboard (actually this one a lil bit I hate typing on my own laptop IT’S GOTTA BE THE NICE BOUNCY KEYS OF ME WORK LAPTOP)

yesterday: favourite way to write angst?

oh just cry a lot!!!! idk all i write is angst so ive nothing specific to contribute beyond getting bundled up in the emotion of the thing and chortling happily as i keel becks again

saturday: what gets you excited whilst writing?

I MEAN the basic answer is feewings... it’s like. Once you seize on something that makes you Feel you could write an entire two pages on it, yknow?? because writing is all about emotion and like you need to get terribly into your topic in order to write it. and like I get excited about laying out the idea and trying to get other people to feel it with me, understand what I’m trying to communicate?? I don’t think I write for the sake of writing; all my stories are about something else (as much as I try to make them Not - SOMETIMES I JUST WANNA WRITE A SIMPLE LUV STORY but i cant!!!!!) so if I don’t have that something else then it becomes v hard and if I do then it’s v easy!!

all my mancfics are associated with madchester and u know it!!!!!!! but particularly becksillas apocalypse and bandfic bc i suck

no this is an interesting qn because while I write a lot of angst I never end on, like, an incredibly hopeless note... I always like that idea of there being something to cling on to (even if it might not be life) so! like, becks might die but there’s still something (football) and it isn’t...angst angst?? is it?? idk. 

OH I FORGOT ABOUT ON THE HORIZON OKAY THAT ONE. Even though there’s still the hope of foobaw left STILL
