Talia furrowed her eyebrows at his question as she shook her head and started to walk, hoping that Elliot would just follow her. âNo, I donât think we need to. The scent smells kind of close.â She mentioned, wondering if heâd have a reaction to her saying the word âscentâ out loud like that. The two hadnât acknowledged the fact that Talia was a werewolf and hadnât seen each other since before Talia left months ago, so she wondered if in between then heâd come to terms with everything. She knew better than to bring it up, though. And the important thing was finding his sister. âShe doesnât normally miss you picking her up, does she?â
Elliot took off after her. He was taller than her but he still had to speedwalk to catch up. He nodded, adding a, âGood,â for good measure. He hoped it was close and he hoped it was because his sister had decided to sneak off with her friends. Nothing worse. Dear God, nothing worse. âNo. But thereâs a first time for everything, I guess.â She was 13, only a couple of months from 14, and he supposed teenage angst and rebellion werenât that far off. But still, this was Beacon Hills. Anything couldâve happened.

Taking a glance out of the corner of her eye, it seemed as though the conversation between Elliot and his mom was going smoothly. âOh, thatâs great! Letâs hope everything turns out well.â She smiled again. Kira was always the one who tried to look on the bright side, and she had a feeling that Elliotâs sister was okay and that she would return home safely. âHmmâŠI realize that youâve never told me about your sister before. Whatâs she like? Is she supernatural, too?â
While her positivity wasnât quite infectious, it prevented his anxiety from taking over as he waited for his mother to call back. He shook his head at her question. âNo, Iâm... The only one in my family like me. Sheâs a perfectly human eighth grader who wants to a professional soccer player one day. Sheâs fiery -- like momma was before everything.â Before he changed, before his dad died, before they moved. âI still worry about her though. Iâm her big brother, after all.â His family was his rock. âDo you have any siblings?â

Lydia was absolutely surprised when Elliot accepted her offer to help. She had genuinely meant it when she asked if he needed any but the strawberry blonde was used to being shut down by Elliot- which was frustrating but understandable nonetheless. She fully expected him to say no, though. So Lydia was actually quite pleased when he agreed. Lydia just liked feeling useful, and this was a moment where she thought she could be. âAlright, yeah.â She smiled softly at Elliot and motioned for him to follow her towards her car. She headed towards the drivers seat and turned her key into the ignition. âWhere are we headed first?â
Elliot wasnât one to accept help for himself -- he wallowed in his self-pity, wrapped misery around him like a cloak. It felt safer that way, to never let himself forget what he was, what heâd done, what heâd do for the rest of his life. He didnât want help with that. But his sister was good. He would do anything for her, even accept help. âThereâs a park a few blocks away that her friends like to hang out at. Thatâs closest I think.â

âIn general?â Allisonâs mind unwittingly traveled back to helping Derekâs pack, the sacrifices for their parents, finding malia, the nogitsuneâŠÂ âyeah. I guess you could say that. I might not be your best choice but, Iâm here,â she gave a small shrug. Allison hadnât always been on the right path and she probably wasnât always the best person for this kind of job but she was determined to try. Â
âI donât... I donât have a lot of choices to begin with.â He could reject her help -- that was a choice but. He didnât know. He wasnât happy with the situation but the fear, the self-hatred werenât as strong as they had been in the past. And her response almost... Reassuring, if that was a thing. âNot like I can just go to a doc and explain why I--â Eat people. âNeed help.â A small chuckle escapes him as a thought pops into his mind. âWell, maybe I could in this town.â

Talia tried to offer a small smile as Elliot went to go grab the shirt, hoping that her words worked at least a little bit. And sure enough, he calmed down enough to at least get Talia what she needed as she took the blue sweatshirt from him. Part of her wanted to snicker at the fact that heâd denied that she was a wolf for the longest time and now she was going to prove that she was, but she tried to hold that in. Right now she needed to focus on finding his sister. After pausing for a moment, she held the sweatshirt up to her face and slowly inhaled, trying to take in the scent the best she could as she closed her eyes. After she felt like she had the scent, she opened her eyes again and nodded as she looked around. âOkay.. Well I think that she may have gone that way.â She pointed towards the opposite direction of the school, frowning a bit.
He didnât even think about his weird this wasnât. It wasnât like he suddenly a well-adjusted supernatural in the time that Talia was gone but... In that time, Elliot still lived in Beacon Hills. Harder and harder yet to deny he was uniquely inhuman. Especially when someone had offered to âconnectâ him with other wendigo. Heâd rather admit to werewolves than acknowledge there were other beings like him. He nodded. âOkay, okay.â He said with a nod. âDo we need to drive?â he asked. His hands were shaking; whether it was a good idea for him to be behind the wheel was up for debate. Still, heâd follow Talia to his sister even if meant going to Timbuktu.Â

âY-yeah, I..â Faye opened her mouth to speak but then closed it again and shook her head. The scent radiating off this guy was completely distracting. She tried to remember what the girl sheâd met recently taught her about pinpointing different chemo-signals and this when definitely showed the signs of distress. It wasnât in Fayeâs nature to care about strangers- or anyone- but she was trying to be different now. âSorry.â Faye repeated. âI just needed to borrow a phone but it seems like you have enough on your hands at the moment.â The girl said quietly. âI didnât mean to bother you. Or bump into you.â
Elliot swallowed. He wasnât a stoic person; putting a lid on his emotions wasnât his strong-suit. He also wasnât about to break into tears but frustration, sadness, fear -- those manifested on his face, in his body language. Poker player, Elliot was not. Still, he tried to collect himself. âNo, itâs -- Itâs fine. You can um, use it, if youâre quick,â he said. âAnd give it back if some calls. Iâm trying to get a hold of my sister but her phoneâs off.â

âSure! I donât mind at all.â Kira nodded and stepped off to the side a little to let him make the call. She didnât really have any other plans for the rest of the day, so she didnât mind sticking around and helping Elliot. She waited quietly and patiently, hoping that his mom would pick up and that heâd be able to find his sister soon.
His stomach twisted and turned as he listened to the phone ring. He closed his eyes, hoping his mother would pick up, and breathed a sigh of relief when she did. He launched into a barely coherent explanation that, luckily, his mother was able to understand. She reassured him and told him sheâd try to get a hold of some people. âSheâs going to make some calls,â he said to Kira as he hung up. âSheâll call me back afterwards.â

Talia could tell that Elliot was freaking out, judging by his quick breathing and anxiety ridden scent. She instinctively wanted to reach out and place a hand on his shoulder, but she decided against it. Heâd always seemed super weird and distant, so she didnât wanna freak him out. Part of her felt like itâd just make all of this worse. So she simply frowned as she tried to make her voice come off as calm and level headed, hoping that itâd help soothe him. âHey, itâs okay..â She started before furrowing her eyebrows and looking around for a moment. Her jog wasnât all that important to her, mainly just a distraction from everything going on, so she didnât mind trying to help him out. She liked helping people. âMaybe I can help you find her. Do you happen to have anything of hers with you? Like uh, I dunno, like a shirt? Hell, even a sock would work. Just anything.â
He appreciated the softness of her voice. Maybe he shouldnât have, maybe he shouldâve been upset and raged at her for... something. Thatâs what the angsty teenagers in television did. His mind was too chaotic to be upset about a spot calmness though. He sucked in a deep breath, thinking in his head that hoped she was right -- that it was okay. âThereâs probably something in the car,â he muttered. âJust--â He stopped himself before he started rambling, shoving his phone in his pocket and walking around to the trunk of the car to pop the back. His hand shook as he reached for a change of clothes she kept there. âHere,â he said, handing Talia a blue sweatshirt many sizes too small for Elliot.

Kira frowned slightly when Elliot told her that his sister hadnât mentioned anything to him before practice, but she was glad that his mom might be able to contact her teammates to see if they knew where she went. The kitsune could only hope that his sister hadnât gotten herself into any trouble and that she would come home safely. âYeah, of course! No problem. Iâm always happy to help,â she replied with a friendly grin.
Kiraâs warm grin was reassuring -- a positive force against his overwhelming anxiety. He nod, trying to return the smile though it didnât turn out the way he wanted. âDo you mind waiting while I call my mom? If you donât have somewhere to be.â He wasnât sure he wanted to be alone if he couldnât get a hold of her or she couldnât contact his sister.

Lydia nodded her head quickly. âCompletely understandable. Iâve been there before.â After all the people Lydia had lost, she couldnât help but slightly panic whenever she couldnât get ahold of someone she loved. Even though Lydia was a banshee and she would be able to tell if they died, it never made it any easier. She was always still terrified. How could you not be in Beacon Hills? âCan I help at all?â She asked softly. âMaybe we can drive around and look for her if you want? I donât mind driving.â Lydia probably shouldnât be given the fact that she was still healing from some pretty serious injuries, but she didnât care all that much. She would if it could help give Elliot peace of mind.
He didnât want to dwell on that -- that sheâd been there before. Elliot wasnât surprised, their conversation at the coffee shop had given him a brief glimpse into the fact that Lydiaâs life hadnât been sunshine and rainbows either. Still, he didnât need more anxieties weighing on him. âIâd... Iâd really appreciate that,â he said, swallowing back his nerves. He hoped his tone conveyed how much he meant that statement. Heâd not been the nicest person to Lydia in the past, nor to many people here, but she still tried to help. At the very least, he could give her credit for that. âI know a couple of places she hangs out. We could try them.â

âYou donât need to apologize,â she shook her head sheepishly.  âI forget sometimes, how personal that can be.â The word Allison really meant was traumatic which was what came to mind with a wendigo turning. Despite her best efforts to understand this particular supernatural creature, it still made her queasy, the idea of eating a human body. And she didnât even have to do it. Â
He nodded. The words still didnât come easily to Elliotâs tongue though he felt the expectation of them weighing on his shoulders. Maybe she wasnât expecting them, maybe it was just his anxiety getting to him, but it was what it was. He took in a deep breath. âDo you have experience with... this? Helping people? Not like me but in general.â It wasnât meant to be a redirection. He just need time to collect himself.

Talia jogged alongside the path by Elliot, earbuds in her ears as she continued on until she could smell the anger and frustration in the air nearby. It was distracting enough for her to slow to a walk as she furrowed her brows and pulled one earbud out. As she listened to Elliotâs phone call, she hesitated a moment before letting out a sigh of her own and approaching him. The two of them didnât exactly have many good interactions that she could remember before sheâd skipped Beacon Hills for a few months, but she just couldnât stop herself from at least checking to see if everything was okay. âYou good? That didnât sound like it, whatever that was.â She gestured towards his phone as she tilted her head. God, he reeked of frustration.
Elliot looked up. He wasnât unhappy to see Talia though, at that moment, their previous drama was the last thing on his mind. âNot really,â he murmured, leaning back against his car as he tried to suck in deep breaths. His chest felt constricted and anything more than shallow, hyperventilated breaths felt painful. Letting himself get lost in his panic and anxiety wouldnât help him though. âI canât reach my sister. I was supposed to pick her up here but she wasnât here and I canât reach her.â He gripped his phone tighter as he spoke, not looking Talia in the eye because he wasnât sure he could.

âI seeâŠâ Kira nodded again. She could hear the stress in his voice. She actually didnât know that Elliot had a sister, but then she realized that he never really brought it up in previous conversations. That wasnât the important thing at the moment, though. âAlright, wellâŠthe last time you saw herâdid she mention that she would go hang out with friends or go somewhere after practice? Or have you tried contacting anyone on her team? Maybe someone knows where she went.â
Her words made sense. They were logical next steps and he appreciated the effort even if it still felt there were a pile of bricks on his chest hindering his breathing. âNo, she didnât mention anything and I donât have any of their contacts but I think my mom does. I can call her.â That was probably the step he shouldâve taken but he hated bothering his mom when she was working. âThanks. For the help, yâknow -- thanks.â

âTo be fair, I donât know if I can either,â Allison shrugged.  âBut itâs worth a shot, right?â She wasnât the packâs best researcher but she had the beastiary and her dad to search through, so she was far from useless. âDo you mind me asking if you were born or turned?â
It didnât sound particularly optimistic and yet it was leaps and bounds more than anything heâd felt in the years since the accident (as he referred to it). âTurned, I guess. I wasnât... I wasnât born like this. Just... Shit happened and. Yeah.â Talking about it was physically painful. The words refused to spill out even though he knew she was just trying to help. âSorry. Itâs hard to talk about.â

Hearing the angry tone in his voice almost made her body recoil backwards. She knew very little about the situation, but still hoped it wasnât anything too bad. She knew she should not have, but she stood where she was and watched the conversation carry on. Maybe he was worried about where this person was? It was unclear to her about why all of this had peaked her interest, but she was in Beacon Hills to explore. So why not? She turned her head to look around her and then went on to approach the stranger. âHelloâŠâ She stopped when felt sheâd gotten close enough. âEverything alright?â
Everything alright. It almost sounded mocking though a rational part of his brain realized it wasnât; her tone was sincere, it was just the anxiety-induced adrenaline crashing through his veins. âYes. No. I donât...â He sighed. Breathe. âI canât reach my sister,â he said, unsure of why he was explaining this to a stranger but knowing that he was gonna break if he was left alone with his thoughts. âI was supposed to pick her up but sheâs not here and I canât reach her. And this town... This town makes me paranoid.â

Faye had survived her entire life without a cell phone. She never thought she needed one because well, she didnât have anyone that she needed to call. Now that she knew Kole was alive and he was back in her life, that was a different story. It wasnât like Faye could go visit him wherever he was living. The Accettaâs could follow her. That would be too dangerous, but she did want to talk to him from time to time. Just to keep him updated. Faye looked around for a stranger that she could ask to borrow a phone from and thought it was perfect when she saw someone on it. As Faye approached him, she soon realized he didnât seem like he was in the mood to help anyone out. She turned on her heels to try and walk away from him instead but ended up bumping into him. âSorry.â The girl shrugged.Â
Elliot wasnât even aware of his surroundings until the girl bumped into him. The collision startled him, his heart beating faster than it already was. Because that was just what he needed! It wasnât her fault though. âItâs fine. Iâm--â He shook his head. He didnât need to apologize even though it rested on the tip of his tongue. What would he even be apologizing for? Thatâs what people seemed to get onto him for. âDid you need something? I was... distracted.â Distracted, distressed, in the middle of an anxiety attack -- what was the difference? he thought to himself.
