Connection of sculpture onto bridge
- brackets will be connected onto hanging sculpture and also onto support beams of bridge. These certain types of brackets can go into metals and concrete so are very suitable for my design.

Feedback on concept and presentation
-Main points adressed: How are material sculptures connected -If drawing inspiration from kintsukuroi should my idea reflect on the small delicate gestures of this (how can i relate it to scale) -Need a section -Plan has perspective - it shouldn't -Think about hierarchy of info - whats more important to show -Labels and dimensions

Pin up -planning and final
Initial concept was to display as a poster with each slide/section on a brick to relate to my design however this separated every element of my design and it didn't read very well together. I ended up having separate slides/bricks showing my work for pin up presentation however i wasn't very happy with displaying my work this way. I decided to change this before final hand in :)

200 words - Scape Proposal
Extrude : is an installation sculpture. My piece focuses on the damage caused by earthquakes to pavements and footpaths, leaving behind cracks and rubble. Specifically I have looked into Worcester Street Bridge as it is a historical place in Christchurch and overlooks the piece of Antony Gormley. My design proposal is to fill these cracks and then extrude internal elements of the ‘filler’ into its own unique sculpture. For my material I have chosen to use existing materials in this space and contrast with new materials being brought into the city as apart of the rebuild. These solid like structures will be made from brick (existing) alongside steel and copper which are the two most commonly used materials being brought into the city. Although solid, these pieces will look fluid, as if the filler has dripped down through the cracks and under the bridge. The cracks filled will look delicate and merely exist in the pathway of peoples everyday route across the bridge and into the city, underneath a large scale representation of what the internal elements of filling that cracks will look like, will hang under the bridge - reminding people that change is going on no matter how big or small it may be. Although there are 2 separate elements to my sculpture, they portray the same gesture.
My design was inspired by the japanese art technique of Kintsukuroi meaning golden mend. It is the process of mending broken pottery using resin laced with gold. The deeper significance by this is the mended flaws become apart of the objects design and some people believe it to be more beatiful having been broken and then repaired. Just as Kintsukuroi, the cracks and exposed seams of the footpath are merely a symbol of an event that happened in the life of that object, rather than the cause of its destruction. As you inhabit this space, you continue on your  journey without being drawn away from everyday life. It is a still piece, perhaps one of contemplation or just merely one of inhabitance.

Name of Project
EXTRUDE- meaning to thrust out; force or press out; expel:
I am extruding elements of the internal pavement cracks, filling them in with copper and steel in the pavement creating its own unique sculpture, addressing the fact of the small gestures (inspired by Kintsukuroi) of repairs in the city. Making it known to the audience that change is going on no matter how big or small it may be. The cracks on top are merely a symbol of an event that happened in the life of that object rather than the cause of its destruction.

Dimensions of Bridge face and sculpture
As this sculpture is imitating the internal components of ‘filling the cracks’ the specific dimensions are at a bigger scale than if you would recreate a sculpture the same scale as the internal filler. It is making a bigger gesture/making known the small details that create this piece of art (the filler) and re-producing these at a larger scale to bring to light my idea and to be seen by all. The scale does not obstruct river uses such as canoes/kayakers etc
This sculpture draws attention to the small gesture repairs in the city, making them known the the audience and stating that there is change going on - you just have to look closely (in my case under the bridge.)
**Note although not all bridge dimensions are correct, this model is representational and if made at 1:1 the scale would not be affected by the precise dimensions of the bridge.

Model Development and Construction at 1:20 scale
Materials used; Sandpaper for bricks (they are all at correct 1:20 scale dimensions - all 1000 of them haha) White fence railing- gloss card Bridge structure is plastic/foam board -  painted to look like concrete Support beams - plastic board Hanging sculpture - Silicon painted copper & steel (too expensive to buy liquid copper and steel)
All materials used are representational of their actual materials at 1:1, if i was to do again i would to do with actual materials to grasp the full material relationships with one another

Bridge dimensions from plan view & Individual brick dimensions for my model
I am going to display my idea/scape proposal in the form of a model. Unfortunately there is not a lot of info around on Worcester Street Bridge (strange considering it is a historic place) so i have had to make a few estimations in relation to the measurements - from the google maps dimensions and standard tram track dimensions (as shown below) also my aunty in Christchurch helped measure out rough dimensions for this bridge. They are as shown above ^
