here are some archived visuals from a night at shoreditch platform for the marbles collective, I used trapcode and aftereffects as a visual sampler to produce my source material, which was later mixed autonomously on the night with resolume. touch osc was also utilised to be able to walk around the venue for the best perspective. resolume, is a great dsp prototyping tool, as well as for real-time editing. you can build scenes and compositions similar to working in the session view for ableton. with various event based controls, and other autonomous controls, you can end up with a functioning multi-sensory system.

my bandcamp is also here with my audio release up for purchase, if an individual would like to purchase a high resolution version of the works rather than streaming. when starting the label I aim to use bandcamp to distribute audio, video, and merchandise.

here is one of my audio sampler systems in max. there are four sampler voices, with note based triggering synced to the host clock, or standalone. there are some issues with getting the envelopes to run back down to noise floor, but with some tinkering I think it should work out nicely soon.

as well as my trusty tascam, i’ve been collecting various recordings with my small voice recorder my mother used to use to tape her university lectures. it has a broken eere character to it, and it’s good for noisy location for textural samples. listen to some of the source audio here :

working computationally with outboard digital units, adds for different character in my sonic palette. as well as playing with dsp, and sequencing events from the computer, to save cpu space, and experiment with other equipment for sample conversion artefacts, as well as analog/digital characters, allows for a nice workflow in a generative paradigm. midi cc seems to be the best protocol for working with these units, mapping out these units in max, then max for live for integration with able-ton is the next step for full integration. so far the experimentation has been parameter at a time. i’m also considering getting a SCSI drive for large sample sizes etc.

site visit, location unknown for now, will track it down. it featured interesting 3d structures playing with form and texture. other pieces focused on minimalist style presentation, using colour and the space around the canvas for nice perspectives.

collaboration and working in linear timelines is still a strong method for composing songs. my collaborator has a very tactical approach to composition and the timeline allows him to execute transitions and interesting melodic progressions in a strong way.

VJ london performance @ iiklectik art lab : this performance consisted of me working with ableton follow-actions to live compose music, with pre-rendered stems. signal-chains with computational elements allowed for change with regards to processing. In combination with visuals generated in quartz composer, I created audio visual instances on the fly. It allowed me to understand the importance of controlling the chaos of automated systems. too many parameters and controls, similar to a large array of cables plugged into a modular system, did make me lose my way slightly. I enjoyed the performance but I know now to focus on this element for future performances/pieces.

this is archived work. I bring this here because it reminds me of previous visual effects and dsp that i experimented with in the past. working with resolume as a host, I processed real time audio reactive instances from quartz composer, overlaid with images, and live cameras. the automation elements in quartz composer, with chance operations and lfo controls, as well as automated clip changes in resolume allowed me to handle all this information, and still give a varied always changing, non-linear visual experience. event : {

soundcloud is another platform I have been using to self distribute any records that won’t be on the percept label. the social interaction that soundcloud allows, brings a net community together, spit into various styles and sub-genres. once you establish a niche, and build a group of fans and artists willing to repost your work, you’re able to cut through the mold and gain large audiences sporadically.

alongside the computational projects & outcomes for this project, to release and distribute these pieces, i’ll be starting a multidisciplinary label for audio visual work. aiming to present the pieces in the form of installation, live performance, online stream, and various site based presentations. [ percept : audio visual ]
