He breaks for air with a gasp, but he’s only to take in half a lungful before it’s stolen from him again, his lover- is that what they are? Lovers?- moving to lick the sheen of sweat over his throat.

The kiss is less affection and more consumption- bodies pressed closer and closer until every breath is surrender.

Despite this, he finds himself laughing. If the public were to see this- were to see Nice- messy and wanting at the neck of his nemesis of all people- surely his hero ranking would plummet.

Maybe the scandal would be enough for him to be cast out from the hero industry altogether.

For a second he considers it. Regrets it just as quick.

Didn’t he ask for this? Begged for it, even- bowed over in gratitude whenever “Nice” garnered trust, his own irrelevant so long as he stayed by his side. As much as he hates to admit it, things really aren’t too different behind closed doors. Not now.

Blood bursts from the inside of his cheek, and he finds himself pressing his tongue into the wound. Savoring it. The anger, the distraction. Lets it settle in his veins like nicotine.

Filed canines nip at his mouth, breaking skin. Pale lips stained with blood- his blood- pout at him, yearning so ardent it would be believable to anyone else.

Sometimes he wishes he was.

“When does she move in?”

Snow white lashes flutter for a moment- a heron’s strike of some ugly emotion flashes in lake blue depths before settling into an achingly familiar stillness.

“I’m sorry-”

“Aren’t you always?”

Ironically enough, he finds the hurt in Nice’s eyes rather pleasing.

A shame it never lasts long.

“I-”

“It’s fine. Stay over tonight?”

Xiao Yueqing can have Nice, but she’ll never have this, he thinks.

She’ll never feel the man playing her lover press his teeth into the tender juncture between neck and shoulder, his tongue laving over the stinging wounds as both apology and accusation. His unbidden desire, his resentment.

And as his- friend, partner, lover- nemesis, it’s enough.

“Yeah.”

It has to be.

And. I had two thoughts.

First one being: dang Nice is so fucking lucky.

Second one: okay but hear me out. How about. this smile and him wiping some blood from his lip

If that blood is from him after getting a particularly good punch

Or from someone he messed up to protect his boyfriend

It's an HTV wrap cover, and I'm glad most of the measurement turned out correct
