I think what may be happening with to be hero X is a villain origin story.
Think about it. Lin Ling was a nobody, he loses his job, he's on a roof and is yelling at anything he deems to be at fault. Nice jumps and Lin Ling is FORCED into becoming him. He falls in love with Moon while stuck like that. He witnesses the horrors of being a hero, but sticks with it for people like moon. He announces on live television that he's a hero because of her.
He then loses her. Violently.
He has just lost everything that made him want to be a hero. Lin Ling, as sweet as he is, is not that emotionally stable.
I think, at the VERY LEAST, he's gonna crash out.
#IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FROM THE STARTTT HE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE SUCH A FREAK#LI HAOLIN...PLEASE...#tbhx

TBHX's beautiful cinematography
I'm a bit late to the tumblr discussion but I'll just share what I wrote on another website when episode 1 came out. WHEN LIN LING ACCEPTS PLAYING THE ROLE OF NICE. They used the black smoke to represent Fear, the emotion that gave power to his boss. In the final part of the fight, after a part of the roof falls and Lin Ling starts to doubt himself, the black smoke engulfs him, showing that he is scared and discouraged, consumed by the Fear. This fear consumes his outer shell (Nice) to reveal himself as he is, or at least how he sees himself at this point: just Lin Ling.
Right after this, it starts the next incredible scene where he remembers everything his boss said and then himself jumping from the building. This scene is entirely in 2D, because we saw before that 2D represents his thoughts, his inner self. Instead of thinking of Nice jumping off the building, now he sees himself jumping and there is a slight change in focus during this scene where: 1st Nice is blurred and 2nd Lin Ling is blurred right before the jump.

It represents them changing roles. Before, Lin Ling played himself and now he is Nice. Lin Ling "died", but Nice lives on. Next, we see Moon extending a hand to Lin Ling saying "I know you can do it, believe in yourself". And he even mentions that this goes according to his own beliefs, that anyone can be a hero.

After he holds her hand, the Fear is cleansed from him, with the power of trust. We see the black smoke go away

Then he's back to "reality" to continue the fight, BUT, there's a catch: The art didn't shift back to main 3D that represents reality, it's still 2D until the fight ends

Meaning that, NOW, he really is Nice. He accepted this fully. The idea of using the "thoughts" art in the "real world" is a metaphor for putting his thoughts into action. It's no longer just in his head, it became reality, he is a hero.
You could even stretch it a little. Right after the fight, when the helicopters arrive, light starts reflecting on Nice's face on one side... This is a pretty common cinematic resource to show moments of a character's transition, realization, awakening... like an eclipse of sorts.
So yeah, this sequence was really powerful and meaningful to the character. ABSOLUTE CINEMA.

Hey chat how bad do we think X’s eyesight actually is
I have like -3.00 myopia on avg btwn my eyeballs and I can’t read the 1-inch-wide digital time display (yk, the old-school kind) on the oven from more than 6-7 feet away, if you guys wanted a benchmark
It’s honestly possible that he’s wearing fake glasses, but I’d find it funny if he who “sees the truth of the world” couldn’t see shit lol. Farsightedness is also possible— maybe the old man needs his reading glasses (though unlikely bc he wears glasses outside the office too). Or maybe it’s just blue light glasses for staring at a computer all day

i feel like nobody has NOTPs anymore. like if you hate a ship now it has to be for some deep moral reason and you have to justify it to everyone what happened to just not liking stuff that isnt inherently bad but just because you personally think it sucks
#dxfcghjkl#i have dynamics of ships i hate that are popular but i dont think i have a notp... i need to be more of a hater

You're about to close on your very own, suspiciously affordable and comfortable house. Just before you sign the contract, the realtor shows you the required legal disclosure: your new house is haunted by the type of presence you'll get from this spinner wheel.
Of course it is.
#A fortune teller ghost who warns you cryptically about every minor event#MY ANXIETY WOULD KILL ME#id buy it but . idk . id have some pets to keep me sane

One of the most haunting scenes to me is still ep 1. When the art style changes and Lin Ling sees himself falling off the building, then accepts that “I am Nice.”
He literally imagined himself falling to his death and accepted that as his new reality, and it’s treated as some kind of inspirational moment. When I first saw that, I was shocked at how dark that was, but no one else seems to talk about it??? Imagining yourself committing suicide shouldn’t give you a shonen power boost!!
