i was thinking recently about how will must've found out about what mason did to his and margot's baby. before muskrat farm, they were all under the assumption that mason had terminated the pregnancy when he sterilized her, and will was not lucid or present during margot and alana's discovery. hannibal whisked him away and he would not have learned about it until later. maybe alana or margot told him before hannibal's trial (it inevitably would've come up since it happened during the massacre, and hannibal was taking responsibility), but then to be in that room, witnessing testimonies and seeing crime scene photos, it was probably all so much worse than he'd allowed himself to imagine. i can see him purposefully putting it from his mind until then as he was already dealing with so much in regards to hannibal. but i think the deaths of abigail and margot's baby, being so violent so horrible, affected his relationship to walter, molly's child and his supposed second (or third) chance at fatherhood. abigail, whom he'd related to the most (and what he really wanted from a family was acceptance) and margot's baby, the child who would've been biologically and irrevocably his (guarantee of the ideal unconditional love) were both taken from him, and now he's left with this kid who doesn't share an understanding of violence like abigail did and isn't his own biologically. it seems as though wally shares will's interests in animals and nature and fishing, but these things that will packed his life with before were also only substitutes for what he really wanted. it can't sustain him any longer. and thus, will's resentment grows in silence. wally doesn't seem to particularly like him, nor does will seem to hold a great amount of affection for his best chance at having a normal father/son relationship. it's clear when hannibal throws it in his face later ("substitute wife and child" and "you know better than to breed") that will does resent wally for being someone else's child. this child who he didn't choose and he definitely didn't father. what is this kid to him but a reflection of everything he will never have?

the best thing about tumblr is that you can watch a show and then you come here and someone has made a gifset of it and you can put it on your blog like a sticker in a journal
