Midterm w/ artist statement

For this project I decided to choose a number of items that represent who I am and best capture them to the best of my abilities. This assignment was pretty simple but technicality wise it really challenged me and was a bit frustrating but I loved the challenge. I was a bit skeptical at first but working through and trusting the process this was definitely worth it!
Why and how I chose these items!
Paintbrushes: I love art. From a very young age I would often paint with my mom being that she went to art school to become an interior designer and always had art assignments so naturally, I developed a habit for painting for fun or just to learn a new technique and honestly Iād say it runs in my blood to just creative and be crafty so paint brushes made a perfect piece for this assignment!
Mug: Almost always Iāll have my favorite snack or a cup of tea to get my creative juices flowing or just to get grounded when I need some focus whenever Iām working on something even when Iām not a fresh cup of mint raspberry tea never fails.
Batman: Iām not sure when my love for Batman started, but I just know I was a kid and ever since Iāve been like a Batman fan always playing the video games, watching the TV shows, the cartoons, making drawings and paintings, and buying merchandise. At one point when I was 12 my whole room was nothing was but Batman.
Sketchbook: When I was in a third grade, my mom gave me my very first sketchbook and told me if you even have an idea jot it down and if you canāt jot it down draw it out and if you canāt draw it out, paint it out no matter what whenever you have an idea bring it to life even if you think itās silly because it can be a masterpiece or a million dollar idea
Word search puzzle book: Puzzles are my favorite, but specifically I love words search puzzles. Why? Because I feel it challenges you to really use your brain instead of just your eyes or your hand and at the same time youāre learning something new and to me itās a great way to pass time
Candle: a good aroma is my key way to setting the mood no matter if Iām relaxing, working on art project, reading or even cleaning. It just puts me in a bit of a trance and keeps me focused.
Perfume: I love maintaining great hygiene and I take it a bit seriously so a good smelling fragrances is chefs kiss! And smelling good is a number one for me and for as long as I can remember I always get compliments or asked what am I wearing which makes me feel amazing and lets me know Iām doing great
Portrait: I chose this specific picture because I felt like in a way I was robbed of a graduation due to Covid but still managed to smile through it and thatās a great reminder that no matter what is going on in the world or in life something you just have to smile, roll with the punches and even though tomorrow is not promised thereās a better tomorrow!
Overall the message behind my work is find your passion, do what makes your heart happy, live for your inner child but heal for your older self.
Final w/ artist statement (unfinished)

The Echo at the Museum is my one-page graphic novel that mixes personal experiences, mystery, forgotten history, and the quiet spirits that linger in museums. Inspired by a real museum visit and some of our figure drawings from class, but I twisted the narrative to feel more surreal, like stepping into a dream wrapped in memory. The story follows a character who is stuck in a creative block traveling through time and trying to shake the creative fog. They enter the gallery space, hoping for inspiration, and come face-to-face with a sculpture that feels alive. As they go deeper into the exhibit, the lines between memory and reality blur. Then a ghostly figure appears, a reflection of the nude model drawn in class now taking on a form of its own, and their presence silently begins to unravel an inspiring narrative hidden in the museum exhibit.
Each panel plays with space, movement, and memory, like stepping through a portal between whatās real and whatās been erased. I wanted this piece to reflect not just technical skill but emotion and imagination too. But this final pushed me outside of my comfort zone and made me realize I still have my creative spark, especially with blending storytelling and fine art elements. Iām so proud of how it came together. Itās the power of presenceāhow art and spirit can echo long after something or someone has been forgotten and a little reminder is needed.
Curated Portfolio Statement
This semester was a wild but beautiful ride. Looking back through my work, I can see how much Iāve grownānot just in skill, but in confidence, courage, and creativity.
My favorite materials this semester were charcoal sticks, graphite pencils, and paint. I loved the charcoal sticks and the way they glide on newsprint and make a mess. The graphite pencils were my go-to, simple yet effective. What you create with them really comes down to how you control the pencil. The paintāI really loved the texture, the blend, the way it glides on paper, the coverage, and the dry time!
My favorite assignments were the midterm, gesture drawings, and figure drawing. The midterm let me express and represent myself through things I love, which made the creating process much more fun. Gesture drawings were like a free-flow exerciseāno pressure to be perfect, just draw, donāt think. And figure drawings were a bit difficult. I used to avoid drawing people and faces because I thought it was too difficult, but nowāeven though itās still a challengeāit makes me want to keep practicing and keep pushing.
I came into this class already in a creative block, and there were definitely moments of doubt and burnout along the way. Balancing big projects and real life But I learned how to give myself grace. I took breaks when I needed to, came back with fresh eyes, and kept going. One of my biggest challenges was learning how to work on a larger scale and trust the process, especially when something felt unfinished or not āgood enough.ā But this class taught me that progress beats perfection every time.
Going forward, I want to keep pushing myself to be more consistent, experimental, and compassionate with my creative process. I want to trust my growth, stop being so hard on myself, and let the art flow. Whether Iām in class, freelancing, or just sketching in my notebook, I want to create with purpose, joy, and freedom.
I see myself expanding into different mediums, becoming the multidisciplinary artist Iāve always dreamed of being, and spreading that passion into the world. This portfolio isnāt just a collection of what Iāve doneāitās a promise to myself to keep growing, keep creating and never give up.
