easter egg or inspiration?
hi!! I come again with a theory that is an addition to others made by several st fans and I just add a new context. my exact theory will start with the question: is stranger things really a serie that is inspired by things from the 80s or are we being fooled by this idea?
Through this, I want to add the 1st theory: stranger things is a universe being created by a certain someone. someone with the power to perhaps alter realities or to be able to create one. I don't know. I've seen this theory being posted by several people and they all make a lot of sense to me. So I want to work specifically on it. After that, we go to the 2nd theory which is that Will suffered from s.a and this trauma is worked on several times in st in a (maybe not so) subtle way. We know that Stranger Things is about Will. There's no point in running away from this idea because you don't like it. He's clearly the main character. So let's start with the statement that: he suffered a great trauma and he almost died. Right? That's where it is. Maybe not. Because that could be where the game begins. What we're seeing is reality being altered by someone. Someone with this ability. I believe that even with so many things being revealed, especially in S4, we still don't know even 50%, maybe less, of the truth because everything is being altered.
I want you to believe that Stranger Things is not just showing you an inspiration, they are giving you hints. Go back to season 2, episode 1, they show the name of the movie that will be shown in the cinema. What movie is that? The Terminator.

Do you remember season 3? When, coincidentally, we have a character who brings all of Arnold's characteristics? They even mention his name, when Hopper is threatening Larry, the mayor, when asked the name of the Russian, Larry jokes "Arnold Schwarzenegger" I want you to believe that Stranger Things is not just showing you an inspiration, they are giving you hints.

Everyone sees this as a reference to a character from the 80s. But we're talking about st, the series is set in the 80s and we know they take it very seriously. Adding a character from a movie released in 1984, in the third season, set in 1985 is something. Remember, this is not a fanfic, where I can make Michael Jackson and Beyonce a couple and if I want to have fun I can make Rihanna the mistress. It's a series that wants to convey the total vibe of the year in which the series is inspired (80). Do you notice how it sounds like a book? They added a character (someone famous) and just gave it a new name. But it doesn't stop there. Because in s4 we also have this. An existing character being brought into the st universe. Vecna who is basically a new Freddy Krueger.

It's not just the way they kill (in people's dreams/minds) that is similar. They are literally visually disfigured because they were burned. They both have one human hand and the other larger or modified.

Dustin even talks about Freddy Krueger in the s4. Actually, we have the original Freddy Krueger in the season. Playing Victor Creel. You might think, "But aren't these things we already know?" Yes! Maybe I've been too long-winded, actually, but my point is that using two characters that were popular in the 80s was not a choice made for inspiration, but rather an Easter egg of what is happening. Remember the context that everything in st is based on real things (let's ignore the monsters), even the persecution of people with the D&D game was true. Do you realize that the characters themselves within the st universe recognized the similarity of the characters with these famous figures? What's up? Out of nowhere someone who looks like Arnold appears in my city? Or what, I'm being chased by a monster that has all the characteristics of a super famous monster? Now let's go back to the initial theory, ST is a universe created by someone, right? That is being created and developed over the years? We can talk about how it becomes correct to say that these characters are exactly the Arnold and Freddy that we know but with the modification of the name and a little of the appearance. I want to be more conclusive, direct. Will is creating all of this. My theory is that he is trying to tell his story (or the story of something) and used his power to change/alter realities to do so, because people were moving on/ignoring/missing something important. Something horrible happened to him, it was covered up and left there, because in the original reality, everyone believed that the body in the quarry was his. So in this reality he is desperately trying to change reality. The only thing I haven't been able to come to a conclusion about yet is whether Will, who we see in the series, knows what's going on or not. Whether he's doing it consciously or unconsciously. But leaving that aside, that's why we have characters like these two in the serie. As time goes by, he needs to add new characters, but let's just say he's losing his creativity, or his time is running out, so he ends up adding famous figures that he's already seen in his own story. After all, do you remember? If I write a book, Beyonce, Michael, whoever I want can be a character in it. And that totally means that both Vecna, the Russian and all these great fantasies added in the serie are just additions by a “writer”. Will. I think that's even the point of the library being the center of the open portals in Hawkins. Remember, he's trying to tell his story. Where was Will found? The library. I have a thought that comes up sometimes that maybe the "upside down" is where the facts are being told. Where the truth is hidden. And the "upside right" is the altered reality. In the upside down, Will suffered, was persecuted, was "abused", had something infiltrate his body without permission and even he "generated" a "child" from it. We also saw that it was there that they had Barbara being persecuted and where they (very purposefully) made a parallel between her being dragged by the demorgogan with Nancy having sex with Stevie. The pleasure of consensual and the fear of non-consensual. We also know that it was in the upside down that everything stopped on November 6th, 1983, the day Will disappeared. When Nancy was still just a spoiled brat, when Barbara was still alive, El didn't exist, Hopper was drowning in drugs because of his daughter, Joyce was depressed, Jonathan was the same. Stevie was still friends with all those idiots. The original reality stopped on that day, then the "upside right" emerged, which is, in fact, just a reality created from the 6th, a reality that was created by Will. I bet that the way they find out the truth of what is happening will be by going to the library in the upside down and finding out what really happened. That's why the library was centered on the meeting of the portals, because they are marking an X where the treasure is. That's all. The trailer will be out, hopefully, in tudum, so we'll finally have things to work on. thank you once again

today I just want to get some things off my chest that really intrigue me about stranger things. things I believe play a much bigger role in the story than they seem to.
First of all: "When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die" — a song used in four major “death” scenes:
Eleven. Will. Eddie. Max.
Now, here’s what gets me thinking: the Upside Down is “frozen” on November 6, 1983.
Someone died at the quarry in 1976, and then again in 1983 (Will Byers). From 1976 to 1983, exactly 7 years passed. Will was born in 1971, which means he turned 12 in 1983.
Twelvegate. Eleven is number 11. Will could be number 12.
• Season 1, episode 1: the dice roll had to be 13 or higher. It couldn’t be 12 or below.
“It has to be thirteen or higher” (Will was turning 12 in 1983) “It was a seven” (And it’s been 7 years since Wills death) Birthdaygate. I’m starting to believe that March 22 is the day Will died. That’s why it’s the date Joyce mentions in season two — it’s the date that’s deeply engraved in her mind about her son. It’s the only thing she can focus on: the day she lost him. Brenner said that a traumatic event can be buried so deeply in someone’s mind that they no longer even remember it. On March 22, no one remembered it was Will’s birthday? Shouldn’t that be a happy date? But remember what Brenner said — and what I’ve been theorizing above. March 22 is the day Will died and trauma can make someone lose all memory of it just to avoid the pain — that’s why no one remembered.
• In 1976, Will would have been 5. In Joyce’s flashback while searching for Will, she brings up “her witch,” and when she asks him if he’s still scared, he says, “I’m not 5 anymore.” So... was the last time he was afraid of Joyce’s witch in 1976? The same year someone died at the quarry?
• When Hopper and Joyce find Will in the library, when It’s Cold I’d Like to Die starts playing. The way they try to revive him mirrors how someone is saved from drowning — chest compressions, mouth-to-mouth... so was really Will the one who drowned at the quarry?
• Eleven — Mike gives her the nickname “El.” Twelve... two Els? Twins? I’m not sure if I believe the “Will and Eleven are twins” theory, but I do believe they’re deeply connected. Maybe they’re not biologically, remember what Brenner said to El about the kids from the lab? “they are your brothers and sisters.”
• Now about Eleven’s mom, Terry — Stranger Things is all about small details, we know. so Isn’t it strange how Terry’s sister tells Hopper twice “You and her would’ve gotten along really well”? What if they did get along? What if they knew each other?
• Dr. Owens & Dr. Brenner / Hopper & Joyce.
I know Joyce and Hopper are most likely endgame, but in season 2 they weren’t even together — Joyce was with Bob. Still, Owens refers to them as “Mom, Dad.”Then in season 4, Sullivan says, “Mommy and Daddy been fighting?” referring to Brenner and Owens. Two people being seen as “mom and dad,” not because they’re a couple, but because they have a “child” in common = Eleven and Will
• In season 4, Eleven tells Brenner that all of this is happening because he couldn’t let go of Henry. He used her to keep searching for him in the Void all these years. What if that one sentence is the key to it all? Everything happening because someone, maybe Mike, Eleven or Joyce, just couldn’t let go of someone they lost... someone like Will?
• When Max “dies” and Eleven says, “No, you’re not going,” the camera literally spins like a clock — time reversing. Now watch how the camera spins around Brenner when he dies.
I swear, I bet he comes back in season 5. i just have this feeling that hes too important.
• The massacre at the lab is already such a brilliant plot line, right? When Eleven is brought to the Nina Project, she first remembers thinking she killed those children. That memory ended up repressing her powers and her courage to keep progressing. So Brenner decides to show her the truth, he plays the tape that reveals it wasn’t her who killed everyone, but Henry. Boom. Plot twist. Powers restored. But what if that memory is also a repressed version of another memory, like that first one? “a memory within a memory.” — remember Argyle’s line? That would explain Brenner’s words: “You still don’t know the truth.” I sweeeeeear, we already know so much, right? the origins of the Upside Down, Vecna’s role, Eleven’s connection. So what truth was Brenner still referring to?
• This show emphasizes mental breakdown constantly — and it makes sense, because this whole universe is insane. But also... smart. In 1971, a mother (Terry) is called crazy for claiming her daughter was taken. In 1983, 12 years later, another mother (Joyce) is also seen as crazy for believing her son is alive and is talking to her through the lights. Now lets talk about the word “crazy.”Mike and Will: “Let’s go crazy together.” Chrissy to Eddie: “Have you ever felt like you were losing your mind?” Vecna literally makes his victims feel like they’re going insane. Eddie: “I know this sounds crazy.” Then there’s Victor Creel. Everyone thinks he’s insane for claiming a demon killed his family. About that, Nancy says “How convenient for Victor” then Robin replies “Or how inconvenient” Pay attention. Robin represents the “informed” perspective — she knows monsters exist, so Victor’s story is tragically real. Nancy, at that point, reflects the ignorant view — convenient excuse, right? It’s the contrast Stranger Things wants us to see. Take Robin’s perspective away, and you’re left with Nancy’s. Isn’t Stranger Things all about perspective and convenience?
• The serie has dealt with “mental” from the very start too. The boys didn’t say Eleven came from a hospital, they assumed she escaped from a mental hospital. Then in season 4, robin and nancy visit a mental hospital. They’re showing us, clearly, a mental pattern.
• Anyway, I’ll leave a video of Joyce that I saw on TikTok in the comments. buuuuut from OUR perspective — the one that knows about the monsters and the Upside Down, Joyce seems beautifully sane, doesn’t she? But what about from the perspective of those who don’t know?
Anyway, there are still so many points I want to bring up, but honestly, my brain is fried. I’ll definitely be back once more questions pop into my head.

clothes and hair
I was looking for evidence for a theory and I came across an even more interesting one. lets start with the fact that Brenner calls the lab a hospital in S4. Eleven even mocks it by saying "hospital?" So now we go back to the beginning, in 1959, when the murder took place at Victor Creel's house. We know that a week after being in a coma, Henry wakes up and is being cared for by Brenner. Let's now analyze that from what we see, we assume that Brenner is a scientist. But do you notice that he is always involved in health issues as if he were a doctor? At Eleven's birth, when they are going to administer the electric shock to Terry, hes always there. Henry's mother said she was going to find a doctor for him and she found Brenner, who was in the hospital when Henry woke up from the coma. So we have the hospital setting and we have a doctor. So I have a question. Eleven was born in 1970-1971 (I'm not sure) and was kidnapped at birth. We know that years later (I'd guess 1975-76 based on Eleven's appearance) Terry tried to rescue her from the lab. So one thing that confused me was the clothes and hair. Why don't Eleven and 8 have their heads shaved or wear hospital gowns? We saw in S4 that the children always wore hospital gowns and all had shaved heads. And in S4, all of this had already happened in 1979. These are short periods of time. According to Henry's speech, he says that after Brenner realized that he couldn't be controlled (all of this happening in the 60s) he tried to control the others. In 1970, Brenner was already doing LSD tests with Terry as a guinea pig. But in 1976, the two girls we saw didn't match the characteristics of the children who stay in the lab. We know that all the children in the lab died in 1979, but somehow, before that, 8 managed to escape? Why are her still alive? Why between the years 74-76 the children didn't wear hospital gowns and had their hair shaved? Were they really in a hospital under the care of the “best doctor” (remember the russian’s speech in s3?) or at that time Brenner hadn’t started his program yet? This was something that I was very doubtful about now and I've never seen anyone talking about it.

and since we work on the details, sullivan's sentence also has to be analyzed. After finding Owens locked in a room, he says "Mommy and Daddy have been fighting?" about Brenner and Owens. This sentence is very important. Mainly because we didn't know about the connection between these two, but from Sullivan's words, they were always close.
Hopper not waving back to Owens after realizing he was creepily watching him… that scary expression Owens makes as he’s getting out of the elevator…. That bright ass yellow light??? And all of this happening right after his appointment with Will 🤔

This post of yours is very old, but I'm watching ST again and I can't help but be intrigued by Will's expressions when Owens' name is mentioned. I'll leave two gifs here with the camera focusing exactly on Will, always after Owens' name is mentioned, and his expression?? Strange. In the first gif, Mike is questioning why they should trust these guys, they don't even know who they are, then she replies "We're Owens' friends", so Will... and do you notice the difference in expressions? mike is like "ah ok owens" but will doesn't seem comforted by that name
second gif, the agent says "Owens... the girl", then Jonathan says "Ok Owens" and the camera frames Will again... then the agent ends by saying "is in danger". To me, it's crazy. Not only Will's expression, but the camera always focuses on his reaction to the mention of Owens. I think Mike even asks Will at some point if he didn't trust Owens... There's something very wrong between the two of them and I just wanted theories about it 😭
The focus on Will is strange because the dialogue is between Jonathan and the agent. It would make sense for the transition to be just between the two of them, but they FOCUSED on Will. i don’t know man, but something is suspicious
Hopper not waving back to Owens after realizing he was creepily watching him… that scary expression Owens makes as he’s getting out of the elevator…. That bright ass yellow light??? And all of this happening right after his appointment with Will 🤔

I REALLY trust Will, like I know he's probably the real "reason" for all this to happen, whether it's his mind creating it or whatever, but there are two things that I find very suspicious. Just to point out, I don't even have any theories behind it and I've never found any, but these are things that I find suspicious
I trust a lot of details in this series, I also trust Noah's acting, if you pay attention to the scenes where they're talking about MF/Billy, Will acts SO weird. You know the acting that says "act like you know what's going on and are afraid that the others are getting closer to finding out the truth"? That's how I feel about him. Specifically one scene, when they're in the Hop cabin, Eleven tells them that she has a new way/plan to see what happened with Billy. the camera frames the reaction of Will, Max and Lucas, while Lucas and Max continue to pay attention, Will does exactly the reaction I mentioned above, he slowly lowers his head and his expression????? like THIS IS WEIRD
Second thing, SOMEONE PLEASE CREATE A THEORY ABOUT WILL AND OWENSS PLEASEEEEEEE It can't be just you who finds it strange how Will doesn't trust Owens when Hop himself trusts him, ELEVEN trusts him. I believe that Mike himself asks in S4 if he doesn't trust Owens and Will comes up with the excuse that it's because he never helped the group when Owens helped a lot (at least from what we saw). When that woman goes to Joyce's house to tell the boys that Eleven had gone to rescue her powers, Will was normal until she said "we are Owens' friends" I SWEAR exactly after she said that the camera focuses on Will and GOD pay attention to his expression. I really wanted to understand what's going on between them.

you know what… we know that Stranger Things has a lot of "parallels" not only between other movies/series/books, but within the series ITSELF. we have some parallels between characters (Billy x Will) and where one scene parallels another. In fact, a very active and really good theory is about Bychance/Byler recreating Stancy/Jancy… We ALSO know that the story of Joyce, Hop and Bob as teenagers will be explored in the last season. I think we'll see some parallels too. I think Joyce looks like she's gonna be some kind Nancy, who wasn't popular but was someone desired in Hawkins. I remember Bob's line "and look how I am now, I'm dating Joyce Byers". Besides that, we go back to Bob saying that he was often bullied, that he never stood up for himself. I kind of feel like this could be Jonathan, we saw him fighting Stevie in season 2 just when Stevie talked about his family, when it was about him, he didn't care. And then there's Hop, who was clearly some kind of Stevie. I was thinking how this could be a hint at a loop. An instance in relationships and a comparison between scenes. This happens because the story is repeating itself, only changing the characters. It's like the creator of all this lost his creativity, so everything goes into a loop. Nancy with Stevie, Nancy with Jonathan. Mike and Eleven. Max and Lucas. Joyce and Hop never got to date. I think it could also mean that if something similar happens in real life, the loop ends in the mind. That's why Hop and Joyce never get together in this reality, because if they do, it ruins the loop, because they're not supposed to be together. That's why Nancy can't choose between Stevie and Jonathan, because if she does, the loop ends. Same with Will liking Mike. things have to follow the same flow if it doesn't directly affect the timeline.
