The last version of my guide is 2 years old, and doesn't account for some new features, new competition, and some rebrands, so once again;
Here's a purchase guide for when RPG Maker is on sale, as well as the Visual Novel makers available.

Sorry to be serious.
The fact that this is 80 fucking years ago but still just as relevant is terrifying.

Immortal spotted.
You don't fool us, "history majors".
studying ancient history will have you thinking stuff like The 18th century was basically yesterday

On the topic of alternate endings, best RPG of all time Chrono Trigger had a thing where you can go fight the end-boss at any point and get murdered with extreme prejudice. Not advisable. But you technically CAN.
And, on a New Game Plus, it's actually feasible to do that and beat the final boss early. (They even unlock new ways of challenging the final boss even before the early point where you can start challenging the final boss.)
And the game is loaded with alternate endings examining the consequences that the stuff you left uncompleted now have on the story.
Like. You were supposed to fight the dinosaur people in the prehistoric age and bring about the end of their society and rise of mammalian people. But instead you fucked off and fought the final boss and then went home? Cool. No one ever vanquished the dinosaur people. You've rewritten the timeline and now dinosaur people reign supreme.
I've always thought that was really cool. I wish more games found ways to do that.

I sure did love Grandia 2. I played it on PC back in the day.
Here's a fun obscure question! I'm replaying Grandia 2 on my switch. My first experience with the game is the PS2 port (which sucks ass), and though I own the dreamcast version, I've never actually played it, on account of my ex took our dreamcast in the breakup ten years ago and I just never got another one LMAO.
In the switch port, I'm noticing the music doesn't loop properly. It just like. Ends and starts over. Is this a quirk of the switch version or is this just How The Game Is? It doesn't bother me, it's just something I noticed and I'm curious.
Either way it's better than the PS2 port where sometimes the songs will just fucking break and loop the same ten seconds for the remainder of a twenty minute boss fight LMAOO.
