I know this maybe one of the easily overlooked moments but I love Violet’s kindness. Wanting to extend the same comfort and safety she got by the jacket Mira made for her using her dragon’s shedded scales to be accessible to all her fellow riders. And similarly when she traded one of her high quality shoes with Rhiannon, whom she just met then, before walking the parapet.

I knew the moment Xaden stayed after their first night together that he's down really bad for her. The fact that he woke up earlier to pick up spring violets so that she wouldn't feel alone when she wakes up... 🥹

It was truly a phenomenal event between them and it altered his brain chemistry forever. Who would have thought that he becomes snuggly morning-after and more?

God I'm a sucker for characters who are so utterly loyal to someone that they're completely unhinged. Characters who have no moral compass except their overwhelming devotion to whoever they've chosen to listen to. That's the good shit

I've been reading for so long that I could point out and dissect my reactions from the past and compare them to the present. What do you mean I didn't like how the leads acted when I was around their age and thought it was too childish and immature? Now that I am a few years older, I look at the same characters and think, "What am I even thinking that time? Of course, they will react THAT way! They act like their age!" Growth, I guess. And moving past the "I know better" arrogance and accepting my flaws, then learn from it.

People, if we can move past that, so can the characters. Give them time and let them act irrationally and be done with it. Now, if they haven't learned any lessons, then feel free to roast them; I don't mind. 😆

Violet doesn't get enough credit for how she stays composed after the disaster that was meeting the Irids. First, she learns that there isn't a cure or a weapon to defeat the venin. Second, while she's still processing all of that, Ridoc is the one who tells Xaden there is no cure. Third, she has to deal with both the disgust from the wild Irids who think she's horrible for bonding Andarna AND Andarna's own grief over their opinion of her. Fourth, Xaden goes all broody and won't talk to her when she tries to reassure him of her love for him. And fifth, she then has to tell one of her best friends about everything she has done to try to save the man she loves while also saving the continent. And then after all of that, they fly home and have to go back to class. She's never given a moment to just...feel.
