This may be above you and all your brilliance however, I am wondering if you are seeing all this discourse on will not going to Van for Mack’s birthday nor posting for his bday and I was wondering your take?

above my brilliance is crazy when i’m trying to find a way to slide in the phrase “don’t hump the messenger” into my draft. hi anon

1. the people who were talking about will flying to van for mack’s bday were primarily joshing. important to note. so if anyones feeling real disappointment about it, well, i wouldnt lmao! we can talk more about that later

2. i find it kind of strange he didnt post? but also, posting for someones birthday is almost more important when you arent seeing them so often, a sort of reminder like hey, i care, we’re apart etc. at least for me. so this might sound like a crazy cope but like, it doesnt strike me as that weird that he would post for his friends like gabe and leno, who he’s away from so much, but not mack, who is still existing at the forefront of his mind from spending so much time together recently (even tho they r apart now). whatever

3. flying to van is kind of a lot! i wouldn’t be surprised if they did hang out there or in mass at some point this summer, but flying out specifically for your friends birthday is… kind of a gesture! i think we overestimate their desire to like show up so forwardly for each other. they have been together thru circumstance (and choice too, sometimes) in SJ, in a routine of seeing each other.

as a guy w a lot of cis friends id say that these routines, regular hangouts, etc are the basis of friendships and closeness. this is tru for all to a degree, but the routine of it i just find especially w my cis guy friends. For instance — every week i meet X and we get a beer and then go play ball hockey. i’m like, secure and satisfied in our friendship bc of that regular occurence. if things were off, that routine would be disrupted etc

so, them not having this regular routine anymore is bound to have changed their strange epic closeness. more than likely, they’ll slide back into it once they meet up again. but this is also still a new friendship.

so it makes sense to me that will, back to a different pattern of routine, isnt thinking of ways to show affection for Mack, esp in something as pointed as a birthday trip just for him. Will is in Boston mode, he’s seeing his boston people and being his Boston self. With worlds, them still being attached made sense — neither has a routine to fall into there, so they make do with what is most familiar, each other.

i dont even think will would think too hard about it being weird, he’d just think about it and go “nah”. and send Mack a text or maybe Mayyybe call him.

Mack, i really know very little about his friendships. Whether thats bc there is little to know or just that I’m missing something idk! He’s also got his whole family thing going on. They obviously spend a lot of time training and hanging out. So, could be he’d still seek out something from Will.

Toff coming to visit is very sweet. Toff is older (and less concerned w maintaining his gay little friendships like Will), likely in contact w Rick/Celebrini family, played (briefly) in Van, is canadian, etc. all of these make his visit make a lot more sense than Will (to me!)

those are my thoughts. idk it makes a lot of sense to me given the kinds of friendships i have haha my cis het guys vs my queer guys. honestly the fact will makes birthday posts at all is kinda gay! go off smitty
