Last Mastery Journal Reflection!
So I have finally came to the end of my Masters program and I would say that I am so glad it is over. I have never been tested this hard mentally, and there were many times that I felt overwhelmed and that maybe this wasn’t the best decision for me. I guess thats how life is though. You get tested, and have to decide if you’re going to quit, or stop whining and drive forward. Well I didn’t quit, and now I am a part of the 9% of Americans that have a Masters degree. The BI Masters of Science program has met and exceeded my expectations. I find myself understanding the BI lingo at work, and have actually applied some of the principles in real time. I learned how to create visualizations, write effectively, how to lead, and how to use tools like Tableau and Visio. I plan to apply this degree continually at work by becoming even more versed in Tableau as we use that a lot to derive and give actionable data to leadership. Most people don’t know how to use it, and don’t fully understand its capabilities. My next action will be to get with my leadership and get a company funded training event setup for myself that I can get Tableau Certified. With my most recent promotion as a Manufacturing Manager, I am curious to see how I will use my current skills to affect change using BI, but I think it is possible. Regardless of what happens, when it comes to Full Sail Univ. and their degree programs, they have placed me in a position where the only reason to fail would be of my on doing, and with that, I have to remain focused and keep ensuring I put whats most important to me remains in view.

Week 4 BI Case Studies
As my masters program incessantly approaches, I am so exuberant and content that I have made the best choice for my career. I have learned so much that I have already applied in my day to day activities. I put together spreadsheets for upper management withTableau, I gather metrics and sound data, and apply those metrics to make sound decision for the Boeing company. In this class, I learned how to put together a sound case study that focuses on improvement, and how to better orchestrate a current problem within the company. We currently have issues within our group, and there are current instances that I know I can use my Case study knowledge to institute change, portray the problem effectively, and get the desired result. In this course I learned how to drill down and find the problem, instigate a solution, and put together the numbers to sway a sound decision on managements part. This class as the other are invaluable to my success, and I am honored to take what I have learned at Full Sail Univ. and implement it in Fortune 500 companies. They now know the power...

a reflection on how the actual course content matched or differed from your expectations outlined in the Mastery Timeline,
a discussion whether "GRIT" and Ambition, addressed in the Week 1 Mastery Discussion, are or are not important ingredients of exemplary leadership, and
a description of how you would apply the concepts presented in the course to your professional career.
Hello,
I just completed my Business Intelligence Leadership and Communications class, and it was very informative and impactful. The teacher approached her teaching goals in a unorthodox manner that proved to be beneficial and exciting. She used movies to emphasize different aspects of leadership, and allowed us to define it through our own experiences. This proved to be effective as I first was able to see a movie that I had never seen, and I payed a lot more attention to the film to gain perspective. A concept in Week 1 was the use of Grit, and how ambition are important qualities for a great leader. I agree they are important as you will not be able to get your desired results from your team if they don’t see those attributes in the leader. Without Grit, you will give up easily or become complacent, which will lead to the detriment of your organization. Lastly, the concepts I learned in this class I will use on a daily basis, especially Encouraging the Heart. I think of all the other topics, this one stands out the most. In industry these days, the worker is rarely appreciated for the work that they do. With that, the employee gets lazy, unmotivated, and seeks a better company that reinvigorates. A happy worker drastically affects your bottom line, so that should always be a goal for any leader. In closing, this class was an eyeopener, and as my management career is beginning, this comes at the right time.

Here is a link to one of my Vizzes I did this month...

VCR Week 4 Mastery Journal
This month has been very exciting. In it, I learned how to create visualizations and infographics using Tableau Public. It was awesome to take data and turn it into a tool that people could visually see. Additionally, at work, we use a decision support tool that is created with Tableau, so I informed my boss and showed her how it can be used to better portray our own data as we have to report it weekly. This class makes me feel a lot better in regards to my future career growth as a BI expert, and I think it will definitely help me along the way. Lastly, I had a great teacher that was understanding, helpful, and very encouraging. In a masters program, it can be difficult to keep your momentum, and at times I have felt like quitting as I put so much effort into some assignments, but fell short on the grade though I knew I did my best and met the requirements. Dr. Bealman gave great feedback and encouragement to me throughout the month, and really motivated me to go above and beyond in my assignments, as I didn’t want to disappoint. In closing, this was just a great month, and I look forward to graduation!

Master Journal-PMA
What a month! This month I worked on creating a website for my working company. This was my first time creating a website, and I value my teacher Dr. Shiaw for this tasking as it took me our of my comfort level, but allowed me to be expressive and creative. I now feel very comfortable if there was ever an opportunity to have this skill, as now after 30 days of inputting data, adding pics and sound effects, I am officially a pro. I did my project on a working company called Boeing Metrics. A company I have created, but have used to hone in on some of the issues my working company has at my present workplace. I tell you, Full Sail really is a great school that pushes their students to the next level. I personally can attest, that without Full Sails rigorous training, I wouldn't be ready for the fast paced environment I am in all the time at work. Have a good day, and if you would like to see my page, click below.
Thanks,

Master Journal_PTR
Hello again,
This month I had the pleasure to take PTR which stands for Patterns and Recognition. It was a very interesting class, and in it, I learned things that will help me as I continue to grow not only in the Business Intelligence field, but also in life. We covered a wide array of topics, and in this course, I really began to apply what I learned in the past courses. I went in depth using Bayes Theorem to determine the odds of a person living in Alabama to reach 80 (30%). I researched Big Fast food industry vendors, and determined which one would be a sound investment for growth, and even looked at Aerospace heavy hitters and determined how their stocks would fluctuate, and if there was an up an coming stock that was viable to invest in. I learned a lot about the stock market, and it has increased my want to not only do it, but become a successful investor. I also saw how though you may not believe that the world around you can be crunched down into numbers to predict what can happen or will not happen, it can be. The power of mathematics, probability, and correlations are mind boggling. Lastly, I have a new found respect for upper academia, as it is extremely difficult to take your schooling to the next level. One has to be prepared, use their time wisely, and not lose the drive it took for them to get this far. It is very humbling when pursuing your masters, as you aren’t always going to get an A, sometimes you didn’t meet the goal you assumed you did, and maybe you need to work on your work ethic a little bit more to be a true professional... In all, it was a great experience, and I look forward to next month.
