Through it all Roman has felt frustration, resignation. Missing his man. Unfortunately. No biceps to grab onto and bite. No arm around him while he sleeps. Scarred face smiling at him, scarred hands touching his hair. The faint strange smells of the restaurant lingering still even after he’s showered. Blue eyes fixed on Roman. For 6 weeks. They video call a few times. Carmy is expectedly busy. Roman is frustrated, sexually, and they’ve talked about this. They do not fuck, so while his thing with Carmy is an improvement in many aspects over his other relationships, it isn’t on all sides, Roman is running into the same walls that feel like they’re of his making. Carmy has agreed to try and talk Roman off but Roman cannot verbalise what he wants. In those calls where Roman is frustrated it’s like Carmy can feel it because instead of talking about something weird he saw on the subway, they sit silent. Roman can hear the TV in the background. Carmy asks him if he’s touching himself, Roman responds honestly that he isn't and Carmy says that he got off earlier, after eating his after work meal of a PB&J, milk and a cigarette. Carmen doesn’t sound irritated with Roman, it’s what Roman thinks of as romantic. One day they will talk about it seriously, but Roman instead jerks off after their call to nothing basically, mind somewhat on his boyfriend while also on cool movie ideas and also thinking about how many more days of management training he has until he can do this near his boyfriend who looks on respectfully, kind of low-lidded and not demanding. It keeps the tubes clear more than anything else, he’s never desperately horny he does it out of obligation.

It's been 4 months of whatever they’re doing (Roman knows that they’re dating, this is a relationship);  Waystar takes up too much of Roman's thinking and he's on Carmy's chest. They're in bed, it's raining outside; the black sky is littered with clouds which release their downpour, the sounds of which provide nice background stimulation. Roman is trying to relax and focus on the pattering and not Carmy's strange breathing underneath him. Roman is sure that it's not normal. He's meant to be trying to fall asleep and his heart rate is meant to even out. As long as he's known him, Carmy's been kind of fucked up. It's like he has a panic attack before bed as part of his routine as his breathing will go from constricted and laboured to smooth and even as he transitions to sleep. Roman usually stays awake to experience it, unintentionally though. His own bedtime routine. Roman is sure in the morning that as Carmen comes to it degrades to erratic again but he usually isn't awake to experience that. It's like 6am and Carmy goes to work. Work which may be a part of the reason he’s fucked, but work that he still feels like he has to do. It’s like some kind of punishment for crimes that Roman’s not totally clear on. Roman can understand associating food with punishment, though for him it’s more the consumption and for Carmy it’s everything that goes into its creation. When Carmy gets home Roman often thinks about setting him up with his therapist. Maybe not his own therapist but sitting down with any good, experienced therapist for an amount of time would probably be something good for Carmy and his mental. He needs to learn to talk about it and Roman who wraps his truth and trauma like it’s a joke probably isn’t the person to cajole something meaningful from him.

one of my favorite stupid things to do in fanfic is to throw two characters together who literally never interact. and then give them an entire, fleshed-out relationship dynamic that exists nowhere but my own head. yes they’ve literally never spoken. yes their relationship is important to me. hope this helps.
