a few days before turning 20 Neil Perry learned that the right ear is the gay ear so he immediately booked a birthday appointment to get his gay ear pierced

what would neil and todd have been like if they had the chance to be themselves with each other, alone and away from the rest of the world?

without the other poets, without the awkwardness between them, without their parents.

how would neil and todd have loved each other?

i think if you were to look into their life, at a time where they were alone and in love, you would have been met with silence. a beautiful, private silence during a moment only they would ever share.

a silence filled with gazes full of love and desperation. little hand holds with caressing thumbs and shakes. hugs so tight they could melt together with a little more time.

i think you would find desperation between two lovers who are afraid they will run out of time.

i think a moment between them would be silent.

but it would be beautiful.

“Goddamn God really has favorites huh?”

“What?” Cameron asked, his fry halfway between his plate and his mouth as he turned his attention towards Neil. Neil wasn’t looking at him and one look around their shared table showed that the rest of their friends were also staring at Neil for his random comment. Neil didn’t seem to see their looks.

“What?” Meeks echoed, snapping his fingers in front of Neil’s face. Neil startled turning towards them as if he hadn’t noticed them before which was ridiculous considering they all came here for lunch together.

“Him,” Neil said, glancing again to the side, “don’t look, he’s sitting alone at a table to our right with his headphones in- don’t look.” Immediately, they all turned their heads in sync to find the person that Neil was talking about, ignoring Neil’s hiss that followed. Most of the tables were taken and almost all of them had multiple people on them other than one. A table away from theirs, however, sat a boy alone with blond-ish hair, headphones in his ears.

“Aw, Neil,” Knox said, turning back and looking at Neil with wide sincere eyes, “he’s handsome, yeah, but you’re really handsome too!”

“Knox, Neil’s not jealous, he’s gay.” Charlie said, turning around and staring at the boy again, “He’s cute.”

“Isn’t he?’ Neil replied, voice turning dreamy. “That is the hottest man I have ever seen goddamn I’d climb him like a tree.” Pitts thinned his lips like he tended to do when he heard something he didn’t particularly want to know.

“Go say ‘hi’ to him, then,” Cameron said, always the logical one. Neil’s head whipped towards him.

“Are you crazy?”

“You pretty much have to at this point.” Charlie said, rolling his eyes, “You’re practically undressing him with your eyes – he’ll notice.” As if on cue, the boy glanced at them, away, around the room, and then back at them. His eyes widened, most likely noticing that they were all staring at him, and he looked down at his lap.

“Woah, Charlie. Are you like psychic or something?” Knox asked, staring at Charlie as if he had the answers to all the questions in the universe. Charlie smirked and nodded as Cameron scoffed and rolled his eyes.

“Anyway,” Pitts said, stealing a fry from Meeks since the latter was busy still ogling the boy, “Just go ask for his number or something.”

“Okay, listen,” Neil said leaning in and causing everyone to lean in too, “I could go up there, make a fool of myself, have the hot guy laugh at me, and go out of his way to avoid me forever. Or I could sit here and enjoy the view. I’m picking the latter.” His tirade was met with boos all around. Even Knox, who hadn’t even realized that Neil was into the boy at first, joined in.

“He doesn’t look like the kind of guy to laugh at you,” Pitts said.

“What if I make him uncomfortable?” Neil asked, stubbornly. His friends groaned in irritation but before they could start bullying him into just asking the boy for his number, said boy started gathering his things.

“Too late now, I suppose,” Cameron shrugged and then moved on completely from the conversation as if it hadn’t happened in the first place. Neil pouted and continued to send the boy, who was quickly scribbling something onto paper with one hand and zipping his bag with the other, pathetic ‘please-notice-me’ looks.

“I’m going to die alone,” Neil groaned, still not letting the whole pretty boy thing go. He dropped his head on the table, moved his arms in frustration, and knocked over the book he’d brought to read but hadn’t read, whined some more, and then lifted his head and started to reach down and grab it. Seeing a man like Neil fall apart so quickly really was heartbreaking. Over a boy he didn’t even know.

But God really must have favorites because someone was walking past him at that moment and grabbed the book for him. And it was none other than the pretty boy who’d obliviously changed Neil’s life by… not doing anything. Thus, the poets got the front row seats of the boy handing Neil the book and Neil’s incoherent babbling and the boy’s confused nod and awkward ‘excuse me’ as he left.

“Wow, you really made that awkward,” Charlie said, helpful as ever. Neil glared at him but didn’t reply. No doubt drowning in self-pity. Meeks offered him a polite smile and changed the subject to save Neil from further humiliation, though they all knew that after a polite amount of time – just enough for Neil to stop being upset about it – he’d absolutely drag Neil.

It was nice, nonetheless.

Later that evening, the boys all sat down to do their homework together and Neil grabbed the book, knowing he couldn’t put off reading it any longer. He took out a pencil and a piece of paper, ready to start taking notes, and flipped open the book.

It wasn’t until he got to the third chapter that he noticed a piece of paper tucked in between the pages. Thinking it was probably just a bookmark that the person who’d borrowed the book before him left behind, Neil crushed it in his hands. But before he could throw it away, curiosity won over and he smoothed the paper to see if anything was written on it.

“Or you could ask me out on a date and “enjoy the view” up close?          (xxx)-xxx-xxxx    - Todd Anderson (the “hot guy”)”

The scream – a little in mortification, but mostly in delight – that left Neil’s mouth was loud enough that everyone in the room sent him odd looks. But Neil didn’t care as he picked up his stuff and skipped towards his dorm room. Homework could wait. He had a cute boy to ask out.

Was watching House and then I spot the almighty Richard Cameron (Dylan Kussman) making a cameo 😂 I was like “HEY I KNOW HIM!?”

I just found out thanks to @.juanthetoad on twitter that the actor who plays stick (richard stites) is homophobic and transphobic. He uses a facebook account to spew his hate so he is not a gay ally. You can like the character don’t worry, but the actor is hateful. I would’ve never found out if I didn’t go searching on twitter for it so I’m just passing along the message. Original tweet below:

to this day, the deleted scene where todd reads a poem to the poets while neils in his parents house about to … yk… breaks my heart. todd finally mustered the courage to read his own poem and neil couldnt be there even though todd probably only got the courage after seeing neil perform.

i feel like todd’s the first person to verbally acknowledge how hard neil works and neil completely explodes. neils dad expected him to work hard and never praised him for it and his schoolmates have known him for so long they don’t really mention it

but todd is new and he’s his roommate so he sees how neil is always slumped over his desk studying and one day he asks neil if he ever gets tired from putting in so much effort. todds the one who always reminds him to rest from then on and he becomes neils breath of fresh air
