Words cannot express how utterly disappointed I am when it comes to helping Sudan. People are hesitant to show their support. They would even dismiss it. No, I am not making this shit up. I have been talking to people about Sudan and their reaction is lacklustre!
I know anti-blackness plays a significant role, along with the lack of media coverage (which is, again, due to anti-blackness), but this is unacceptable. Many people are dying. The country going through a flooding. Homes are destroyed. Families are displaced. Famine is claiming more lives than the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) and SAF (Sudanese Armed Forces) combined.
They need our help!
There is one way you can show your support! Kindly have a look at this fundraiser. It belongs to Eman Abdelrahman (@emooz-8). She is a 25 year old Sudanese and she is raising funds to evacuate. She has been campaigning since January of this year, but she struggles to receive donations to this day! The last one was made 2 DAYS AGO!
Let's pick up the pace and aim for a doable goal once again - 30K in 3 days! As of writing this (Sept 9th), 29,517 CHF has been raised! There is only 483 CHF left to go! Please check your currency exchange. It is in Swiss Franc! ($10 USD = 8 CHF)
There is also a fundraiser for her extended family. Please keep in mind that it is in Singaporean Dollars, so double check with your currency exchange! ($10 USD = $13 SGD)
You can even match me! I've given 5 CHF and $5 SGD!
A Haitian American woman with long Covid and her daughter with cancer have both been struggling to raise funds that would help them during their illnesses. Both of them live in the Midwest, which is where a lot of the most recent fear mongering has been centered.
COJEHA is a Haitian organization that provides financial support for youth, teaches agricultural skills, helps ensure children attend school, and teaches other soft life skills. They're working on building a farm with fish and vegetable crops where teaching occurs, which will also increase local access to fresh food.
P4H Global is the organization that has been working on building the canal connected to the Massacre River, another agricultural project. They have also been working to support education in Haiti, with both teachers and students.
The Haitian Community Center in Springfield, Ohio. Springfield's food bank, community health center, and a local Catholic organization that provides aid are also accepting donations.
Richard Pierrin is a journalist who has had to flee Haiti and is trying to get a visa that will allow him to work, and that doesn't end after 3 months.
Marc Henry and his family have been dealing with food insecurity for months, and are trying to get funds so they can eat, as well as supplies like livestock and fishing equipment so they can sustain themselves even after the fundraiser is done. They're close to their goal.
An elderly couple's home was damaged multiple times over the last few years and they are trying to raise funds to finish construction. They are also very close to their goal.
A fundraiser for children in Jacmel to provide food, water, and clothes.
A fund for several families to secure plane tickets out of the country
OTRAH is an organization that helps trans Haitians and wants to expand their services to combat HIV. They don't have a gofundme, instead donations are discussed over email.
There is also this thread of Haitian gofundmes which updates fairly regularly
This document explaining the leadup to where we are now also names some organizations that could use financial support
D鈥橮haraoh Woon-A-Tai, the first indigenous actor nominated in any lead category, attends the 2024 Emmys with a red handprint over his mouth, the symbol for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). September 15, 2024.
My name is Ashraf Alanqar, and I am 30 years old. My wife, Widad Issa, and I have a one-and-a-half-year-old son named Bakr. We used to live peacefully in the Al-Shuja鈥檌ya neighborhood, in a house we built just a week before the war began. I worked as a farmer and owned a large chicken farm that provided for my family.
Beloved of my heart (Bakr)
Then the war came and destroyed everything. Our home was reduced to ashes, and our chicken farm was obliterated. We lost our home, our livelihood, and even our basic rights. We've been forced to move from place to place in northern Gaza, simply trying to survive.
My House before...
Me.. while trying to recognize what has happened..
The terror we feel as we flee from heavy bombardment is unbearable. The sound of explosions around us, the constant fear as we navigate through the rubble of destroyed homes searching for safety and food, haunts us every day. My son Bakr is constantly scared and suffers from severe malnutrition and skin diseases due to the lack of food, water, and sanitation.
Our beautiful memories.. :(
We urgently need your help. I am asking for your support to fund this campaign to move my family to a safe place, provide us with a proper home, and ensure we have enough food, water, and medical care.
Baker used to play with his dog.
Your donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in our lives. We desperately need your support and solidarity during this difficult time. Together, we can restore hope and safety to Ashraf and his family.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering my plea. Your support means more than words can express. Together, we can turn a story of loss into a journey of hope and resilience.
The fact that CHILDREN are taught sayings like "boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider, girls go to college to get more knowledge" and people STILL deny the existence of misandry?? It's utter insanity. I know SO many boys and not a single fucking one has EVER gone to Jupiter, certainly not to get more stupider.
To all the boys and men who need to hear this: you are smart, you are cared about, you are loved, and don't listen to anyone who thinks it's okay to say disgusting shit like that. You deserve better.
heya! has anyone highlighted Azi from Scavenger's Reign? because she blew me away on my first watch!
Scavenger's Reign follows the survivors of a damaged cargo ship as they traverse a strange planet called Vesta in an attempt to find their way back to the ship and the human cargo it carries. Azi is a cargo specialist who crash-lands with a robot named Levi. Azi is presented as no-nonsense, and her introduction shows the viewer that she is planning on quitting her job as soon as she is free from Vesta. as the series progresses, she slowly learns to be more flexible and appreciate Vesta as a planet while forming a special bond with Levi. she's also in a canonical relationship with a woman! her voice actor Wunmi Mosaku delivers an excellent performance, especially during the tense, emotional moments in the show. i highly recommend Scavenger's Reign as a series and i hope we get a season two, if only for a continuation of Azi's story.
Someone has, but there's always more room for respect! And WUNMI MOSAKU??? oh I know she was ACTING acting then!!
[ID: A slightly stylized illustration of a dark skin Black woman with straight/wavy black hair in pigtails and wearing a pink/purple tube top and skirt. Her eyes, lipstick, and hair ties are the same color. She is speaking on a pink/purple rotary phone, with the cord being stretched across the illustration and throughout the background, and she has her other hand on her hip. Coming out of the phone and the subject鈥檚 mouth is three exclamation point overlays. The stylization is derived from the subject鈥檚 large eyes and head. The background is pink and white with an overlay pattern of the phone and cord. In the top left corner is the date 8/12/2024 and my signature. (End ID).]
