So the girl named Betty was the original lover of the boy called James, but somehow James cheated on her and had a summer love with the unnamed girl in the song august. The girl was actually so in love with James, but he was thinking of Betty all the time though he was with that girl. So finally he confessed, regreted, and begged for forgiveness(kind of), showing his eagerness for things to be back to the past time. 🤔

The song cardigan is from the perspective of the girl Betty. August is from the other girl who has a summer affair with the boy James. And the song Betty is from James’ perspective.
