frxnk-longbottom:
Frank stared at her for a moment, before sighing softly and grabbing a muffin from one of the baskets in the middle of the table. He took a rather vicious bite out of it and chewed it slowly, not enjoying the taste as he usually would have done. His mind was too preoccupied and, for the first time in his life, had fallen into absolute chaos. He was usually cool, calm and collected. He did not get frustrated over silly little things like Prefect schedules, but since Bertram had… he could barely bring himself to think the words… passed, he had not been himself.
“I know, you’re right” he said, after he had swallowed his bite of muffin. He placed it on top of the empty plate in front of him and leaned forward slightly. “I think we need to call a meeting and lay down some rules. The events of the past few months have had people acting up, or playing on excuses, but if they’re going to be prefects, they need to either suck it up or hand in the badge” he said, sighing with frustration, while running a hand through his hair. He watched her for a moment, “any potential pairings you can see that won’t cause drama? Most of the same house prefects are fine with each other, but their are the odd few…”
IT WAS AN UNUSUAL sight to see. frank was supposed to be the cool, calm, and collected. she felt like he had always had the answer to everything, even her stupid little ones about their shared duty, and it was hard not to admire him for it. so seeing him so out of place and almost frustrated was foreign to her. it was almost like it wasn’t even really frank standing there, but someone else pretending to be him. although considering all that had been going on over the course of the last few days, she could understand why.
amma just wished she could do something about it in a way to help.
“I agree.” she nodded her head, crossed arms over her chest and felt herself lean back against her seat. “I think we should host a meeting this week, clear the air on the rules, and make sure everyone understand that this isn’t just a title to have. real work comes into being a prefect and if they aren’t pulling their weight, then they hand their badge in... as for the few complaining about their schedules, we can maybe work out other potential pairings, but again, this isn’t optional. we shouldn’t have to please every prefect just because they’ve had a little riff with someone outside of their house.”

“Well that’s just it, isn’t it? I don’t remember either,” he shrugged, maintaining his easy demeanour as he sauntered beside Amity down the corridor. “Perhaps it is not so desirable on a resume.”
Lucius didn’t know why Amity had wanted him to accompany her. He might have been conceited enough to think it was because she enjoyed looking at him, but he was not stupid enough to think it was the whole reason. She might have ignored his comment about spending time with him but he wasn’t prepared to drop the matter so easily. “So why was is it that I’m accompanying you then? You aren’t frightened, are you?”
A CHILL WENT down amma’s spine once lucius had answered. I don’t remember either. what was that even supposed to mean? she could feel the handle she had around her wand tighten, her feet picking up their pace against the floors as she tried to ignore the sting of his comments before they each ended up on a slippery slope of insults. thankfully, sort of, the conversation had drifted into something amma could easily adjust better to that didn’t involve the need she currently had to hit him.
“enlighten me, malfoy, what exactly is there to be frightened of within the castle?” she flashed her lit wand back to his face with raised brows. “better yet, tell me why you think I would ever think to choose you as a companion if I ever was? are there more slytherins hiding out in the shadows of corridors I should be aware of?”

swearwolfremuslupin:
Remus was supposed to be studying but he had been reading the same sentence for ten minutes now and it was becoming increasingly difficult to concentrate. As his frustration grew, so did his lethargy. His limbs felt heavy and weak, his stomach lurched with every sudden movement. Despite his discomfort, despite longing for his bed, he just couldn’t bring himself to make his way back to the common room. It felt so far from the library, part of him was genuinely concerned he wouldn’t make it. And some stupid, stubborn part of him didn’t want to admit defeat. He blinked, tearing his gaze away from his book, looking up and accidentally catching the eye of a student. He wasn’t an idiot, he could sense their concern and made a half-hearted show of brushing it off. “I’m just- I’m tired.” He murmured, closing his book and sliding into his messenger bag. “It’s fine, ‘m fine… I’m actually leaving- I just…”
“relax, lupin, I won’t nark on you for being lazy in the library.” amity replied with a coy half-smile after releasing a book from her hand and back to being placed onto a small opening on the nearest shelf. in truth, she hadn’t even been paying much attention to remus to begin with considering she had been forced to walk up and down aisles, scrambling her brain trying to remember where exactly she had taken her last book out. a task that would have been easily handled if she had been paying proper attention, but with everything going on between studying, practicing, and trying to fulfill her duties as head girl it was safe to say remembering little details like where she had gotten one thousand magical herbs and fungi seemed to end up being a fleeting thought more than anything. she felt how remus looked. exhausted. “are you leaving?” brown eyes lowered themselves to his bag then back up to his face. “want some company?”

aislingxburke:
It was no secret that the majority of Hogwarts students took divination as a joke. An easy class they had no doubt about passing. Aisling, however, loved the subject. She found the endless possibilities and interpretations that the future held absolutely fascinating - and she loved to share those fascinations with others. Even if not all welcomed her enthusiasm. Cartomancy was her particular strength and Aisling enjoyed practicing on the many unsuspecting students in the library. After all, taking a break from studying was healthy.
“Want me to read your future?” Aisling asked the person sitting across from her, a bright grin twisting at her lips as she spread the tarot neatly over the table.
CARTOMANCY.
amity never sought out an interest in magic that circulated within divination. too much work went into the subject that the brunette didn’t care for and it really wasn’t much of a surprise when she barely passed the class. tea leaves, dusty playing cards, and mystical crystal balls were never her forte. it was simply the sight she did not have. but, hearing aisling’s voice break through her own clouded thoughts had momentarily piqued her interest.
and gave her an excuse to pause on her charms homework.
“sure, give it go.” with a shut of her textbook, amma looked up at the girl seating before her and rested her chin in her palm. “unless it’s awful. then just don’t tell me.”

cmma-vanity:
There was nothing about Amity that intimidated Emma. She was only growing more cross by the minute, ready to explode. And she would have, too, if the girl standing in front of her hadn’t been the Head Girl. The position garnered at least a bit of respect – though not much – in Emma’s eyes. “And seeing as you’re the Head Girl, you could stand to be a bit more considerate. Instead of blocking the corridor, don’t you have some grieving first year to attend to? There are plenty of them who are a complete mess, and here you are, starting fights because you’re too up your own ass to step aside and let someone pass in front of you. I’d be careful who you call daft, though. You’re hardly the smartest one in the Gryffindor tower, much less the entire castle.”
amity could see the heads of other students turning their way now. the very clear indication that maybe the corridor was more crowded than she had initially realized. yet, she could feel herself reveled in the attention, her spine straight and expression drawn onward, while emma went on to what looked to be a concealed tantrum fit for a pubescent child. and while on-lookers hung on to see how their argument would end, amma just snorted with the sort of expression anyone would produce when they’ve just been made privy to what it was really looked like to be entertainingly delusional; each peal almost hallow and mocking - brown eyes stayed on emma, registering her for what she really looked like: insane. one emotion off from completely raging.
“are you positive you’re not the one who needs consoling for being a complete mess? I mean, you are the one bitchin’ about something anyone could have easily avoided by going around. I might not be the most intelligent person at hogwarts, god I don’t have the up-keep for that, but at least I have enough common sense to move when someone’s in my way.”

“I am rather well rested. This break from classes has been a marvellous opportunity to catch up on the more esoteric parts of the curriculum,” Lucius said with an easy smile. If he was annoyed to have Amity decide to tag along with him he didn’t let it show. He gestured down the hall with false deference signalling that Amity should lead the way. “You know, Head Girl, if you wanted to spend more time with me you need only have asked,”
Lucius was silent for a moment before he asked, conversationally; “Dp you know who was Head Girl last time a student was murdered at Hogwarts?”
IT FELT AS though anything that lucius said would simply drift through one ear and immediately out the other. in truth, the reason why she added the slytherin to accompany her on her route was mostly so that if they ran into another student out of bed that he’d be instructed to bring them back to their head of house by her own kind orders. bonus points if they ran into someone whose dorm was in a completely other direction from where they were walking. ideally, the thought of them running into a crying first year would work best, but amity was sure other prefects had warned them all off by this point. now her only hope was that they’d run into anyone from any year to wipe the smug look off his face.
“can’t say that I do, malfoy,” she finally responded, pointedly ignoring his ridiculous comment about her wanting to spend more time with him and the fact her memory of touring the hogwarts trophy room months ago was now failing her. “but I’m sure you’ll tell me, so go on, inflict whatever point you’re trying to make by bringing them up.”

sure, alice had given her the prefect routes and rotas for ‘ official bussiness only ’ ( and then the revised routes and rotas, with a warning ) but if she did her own thing and get the job done? ellie though the older girl wouldn’t mind that, especially if her own thing and the mission overlapped. d i s t r a c t a prefect? that has so many interpretations and she picked her favourite one, didn’t even know why the distraction was needed but a snog in the broom closet was easy enough. getting back to bed? somehow that was the hard bit. someone wasn’t where they where supposed to be, someone decided to wander. of course it was amity, that was just ellie’s luck. wiping away the lipstick that had strayed beyond her lower lip she didn’t even look the other girl in the eye. “of course it’s you”
@chambxrlainnn
WITH HER WAND in one hand and an advance potions book in the other, the familiar voice that echoed down the corridor made amity’s heart squeeze. she had heard the voice through crowded halls and over other’s during meal periods in the great hall, but it almost always sounded too faded and fake and crackling away, nothing like the crystal clarity of it now. the suddenness off it all almost made amma too shock to speak, seeing ellie was often something akin to bumping into a ghost. a lover gone too soon. her mind flooded with memories and soon enough amity forged enough strength to focus on.
“try not to sound so disappointed.” I remember times you’d liked seeing me down dark areas of the castle. “I’m sure if I was anyone else you’d be thrilled to spot me.” amity let out finally, her words like a puff of smoke oozing from tar black lungs. blue hues lowered themselves down to ellie’s lips. smudged. messy. a thin finger pointed to them. “you always did like to keep busy, but I’m sure even you know you’re not supposed to be down here, even if your intentions were to be sloppy.”

frxnk-longbottom:
With everything that had been happening, Frank would have hoped that everyone could have remained somewhat mature and keep their personal problems to themselves, but apparently, it was simply not meant to be. For some reason, he always received the complaints from prefects who wanted to switch shifts, or switch patrol partners. After a day of helping to box up Bertram’s things from their dormitory, Frank’s emotions were already fried and he had found himself at his wits end. Walking up to Amity in the Great Hall, piece of parchment clutched in his hand, he took the seat across from her and slapped it down onto the table between them.
“You need to help me figure this out, because I cannot find a way that suits everyone. I have written a list of who cannot be paired with who, and who cannot do which days of the week. I have a few covered, but…” he said, pushing the prefect schedule towards her. “See, these two cannot be together” he pointed at a male sixth year Slytherin and a female sixth year Hufflepuff. “Also, he can’t be with her, him or him. She can’t be with her or him” he said, pointing to more names, “and apparently” he laughed humorlessly, “no-one can do Friday night”.
@chambxrlainnn
AMITY, with her spoon dunked into a chill bowl of milk and pixie puffs, nearly spilled her breakfast all over the remains of her homework by the time she was met with frank and his apparent prefect problem. dark brows knitted together while her spoon continued to rest deep inside her cereal as she tried to wrap her sleepy thoughts around whatever it was frank was going on about. she wanted to remind him how early it was, but clearly there was more pressing matters at hand.
“first off, I need to you slow down. breathe. eat a muffin while you’re here fussin’ about.” amity raised her hand up as if to push an imaginary pause button before grabbing the piece of yellow parchment for a closer view. she could see familiar names scribbled everywhere coupled with other names that amity wasn’t sure was of those who could or could not be paired with certain people. it was all making her head spin. she lowered the list and looked at frank with even more confused expression than the one she was wearing before. “and second, while we figure out suitable pairings, everyone should be getting a friday night route. no exceptions unless they’ve got a legitimate letter from a professor.”

“Don’t pretend that it would not be a little more fun than letting them trot off unscathed,” he said, completely ignoring the directive to not answer. Disregarding things that he did not want to hear was one of Lucius’s talents. He smiled, relaxed despite the tragedy and the aurors prowling the school. He didn’t have anything against Amity per-se, he just resented that the Head Girl was not a pureblood, however he bristled when Amity offended him.
“I am not a creep, nor am I creeping about. I am on my patrol route, actually. Had you decided to do your job there’s every chance we would not have run into one another as you would have been well on your way to taking those students to their head of the house.”
AMITY COULD FEEL her brows stitch together at the pureblood’s words. her mouth was caught slightly open to form protest but quickly found its way shut before any words could materialize between them. had you decided to do your job? his words ricocheted through her thoughts while her fingers gripped against her wand. everyone could be so nitpicky about how she went about doing her work. constantly reminding her of what she should be doing, how she should be doing it, and giving amity a pounding headache because of it. she was head girl. and if anyone was going to boss her around or belittle her, it surely wasn’t going to be lucious malfoy. that would need to be fixed.
“you’re right. what was I thinking?” amma slipped the hand that was once resting in her back pocket to touch the small space on her forehead with the imagery of a tragic housewife cursing over her. “I guess I’m just so tired... you seem pretty awake though, malfoy, with all your thoughtful suggestions on my timid authority..” the blonde took a step forward with an ease in stride. “congratulations, mate. you’re stuck with me and my route for the night.”

“I don’t know – I might’ve seen him at the ball, or at the after party, or maybe I passed him in the halls. I can’t be certain I never saw him after that class, so… I don’t want to say that it was.” He realized that it sounded shady, like he wasn’t sure where he’d been or who he’d seen and when. But it was the truth, and Ted always believed that the truth made things easier, even when they were impossibly difficult to fully understand. “I don’t think I’m one of a few. He seemed like he was such a good person – I couldn’t possibly be one of only a handful of people with actual memories of him. Like you said, you were in his House. You must’ve known each other at least a little bit.” He shrugged. “Yeah, I mean, if you want to. I don’t know if it’s actually that good or not.”
AMITY SUPPOSED SHE understood; for all she knew the last time she saw bertram was in the common room or during breakfast in the great hall. or maybe it was in passing during the period before charms or maybe even in study hall. she could see his face in various memories all too foggy and grainy to remember clearly. if someone had asked her when was the last time she had seen him she was sure she wouldn’t be able to form a proper sentence. and she felt horrible for that. like you said, you were in his house. you must’ve known each other at least a bit. “yeah, yeah, totally.” there was a bit of a shake to amity’s head as if it were to inject some sincerity to her lying words. the most she knew about bertram was roughly about the same amount she knew about any of the other seventh years. and that didn’t exactly scream proper acquaintanceship. “I’m sure the photo came out great, tonks, especially if you caught him like he stumbled upon something great. I’d love to see that, I’m sure anyone would love to see that.”

“Thanks Amity!” She cheered up nigh immediately, and started walking with her friend, making sure to keep a hand inside the pocket where her own wand was. Just in case they ran into someone less innocent than a student out of bed.
“Have you had to send a lot back to their common rooms recently?” She asked after a moment, nervously keeping her eye out despite the head girl beside her
“quite a few, yeah. mostly older students who think rules don’t apply to them.” there was a trail of exasperation laced between her words as they ventured further down the corridors. amity kept her wand out steady in front of her, pointing it towards dusty oil paintings and stone statues while counting the steps it took to reach the kitchens. a part of her knew that if she wasn’t head girl that she might have lumped herself with those very same students who would have been hanging around disobeying whatever dumbledore had ordered. maybe she would have been off trying to sneak past aurors with other seventh years or casting spells off the astronomy tower.. or maybe even sleeping back in the dorms. just anything but patrolling the halls and instructing other students on where they should be. “bit annoying, really. no one listens to anyone in the middle of chaos.”

cmma-vanity:
Emma felt like she could’ve made it halfway across the castle grounds in the time that it took the girl in front of her to move just a few meters. She was dragging her feet, going absolutely nowhere, and keeping everyone behind her from going somewhere, too. But when the girl turned around and decided to respond, Emma felt herself heating up. Her anger was building inside of her, and she needed to let it out. “You are excused,” she retorted, without even thinking. “The castle might be big enough, but when everyone has to go around you and waste their time, maybe you should consider moving the the side of the corridor. And for what it’s worth, I wouldn’t follow you out of a falling building. Your route is irrelevant to me.”
“maybe I’d consider doing that if I was a considerate person,” amity slung back, thin arms crossing loosely over her chest in the face of emma’s heated front. it was just a crowded corridor. there was enough of them at hogwarts to make slow ventures common if you knew how long it would take you to get from one side of the castle to the other. it wasn’t an inconvenience for amma, so therefore this wasn’t directly her problem. and it surely wasn’t enough to get worked up over. although, the petty, vindictive part of amity wanted to see the storm that rose across emma’s features grow into something more. “but seeing as I am not, you and your pissy mood can go around me like I said before.” the words released themselves in a slow, lazy manner. the tiny flinch of a shrug adding punctuation to it. she ignored the dig, lips pursed slightly, an expression she’d inherited from her mother. “or is hearing that a second time still a difficult concept for you to grasp?”
