Last 2015, I was part of an organization who has been undertaking the advocacy for the past years on how important education is and on how the organization can help the scholars by the little things that they  can do such as raising funds for their allowance and their daily needs as a student. The Adeodatus Scholarship Organization applies global goal #4 which is Quality Education. According to the United Nations, obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improve people’s lives and sustainable development. Ever since I was little, my parents would always tell me to work hard for my education because it’s for the benefit of my future. Growing up, I have always been thankful that I’m blessed to have the education (tuition, supplies and etc) that I need. When I transferred to CSA last grade 7, I would always be present in the events that they make. One day a guy came up to me and tried selling a Bb. CSA ticket. When I asked what it was, my friend explained to me that it’s a tradition of the Adeodatus Scholarship Organization every year to throw a pageant event to raise funds for the scholars. I was amazed on how it looked so Miss Universe-like so the next years I decided to support and watch all the Bb. CSA event because I knew that I’ll get to enjoy while watching and supporting them. After watching every Bb. CSA event, my friends and I would react and be like “Uy tara next year sali tayo Adeo!” It was grade 9 when we had to the guts to screen/audition for Adeo. It was scary but worth it since we got in. That year, the officers of the organization explained to us that they wouldn’t push through anymore with Bb.CSA and start a new event called Lux Nova. This event is similar to Bb. CSA but the difference is that boys are allowed to join and it’s not an ordinary beauty pageant anymore. It’s a search for an Augustinian role model who captures Augustinian values. An example also of the events that this organization does is the Tatak Agustino which is to raise funds for the scholars by selling old stuff, things you’re ready to give up and don’t need any more. The first few months of joining this organization was really fun and exciting since all we had to do are to screen people who wanted to join Lux Nova, do props/artworks for photo shoots and bulletin boards yet I was wrong. In joining this organization, a dose of dedication and commitment should be distinguished due to the fact that you’ll be sacrificing your time and studies just to help and pursue a successful event. It was the middle of the school year when tons of performance tasks were showered to us while a lot responsibilities were given to us by the officers as well since the event is near. We had to be excused the whole day from the class and miss all the lectures, attend Saturday meetings, give up lunch time, promote Lux Nova everywhere, work harder for the light benefit cards. We are given two cards each. The cards are for raising funds by asking 10 pesos. (2000 pesos for each card) It’s hassle because we have to be assertive and encourage people to give by explaining every single time they ask that it’s for a good cause. These challenges didn’t stop me from pushing myself to complete all the tasks that are given and to extend more help even though it was stressing us all out. Every time we tend to say “ayoko na” I would always remember that one Saturday when my friend, Angeli Sato and I were assigned to go in this outreach for the scholars and witness the giving of needs that our organization hand overs. We got to interview the scholars and ask them questions on how the organization helps them and you can see the look in their eyes that they are really thankful. For me, it’s beautiful how tiny help from us would mean a big thing for them. This inspires me to join activities, organizations and programs like these because it’s really worth the experience and I have always believed that we rise by lifting others up.
