The children's show villain is a figure who sadly is not seen outside the children's show. first year solo gardening adventures:

attempting to befriend my tree guy by emailing him every time I make croissant bread pudding at work. he has reassured me that my cherry tree is not sick it just healed a crack in the trunk and that's why it was oozing last year

started seeds assuming almost all of them would not come up and now have a hubris of daisies, chamomile, and catnip on my windowsill

found a dead mouse in a bucket of water out by the compost ! now buried with deep disgust but relief that I have not mismanaged the compost badly enough to smell Like That

took a cutting from the magnolia in the vacant lot by my house and she is rooting! will see if she lives when I put her outside

growing pumpkin seedlings who are getting so big so fast. my only goal is to grow my own halloween pumpkin this year

the "feeling like something is wrong with you that you have to hide" background noise is often a result of childhood trauma because an abused or neglected child who doesn't rationalize their mistreatment runs the risk of alienating themselves from what little shelter and care is actually being provided. it's theorized that blaming yourself at that age is a way to survive by coming up with a justification for why you're being abused so you don't blame your caregivers for your own suffering, thereby alienating them to the point that you are fed or sheltered or protected even less than you are currently. believing you may be able to "change" so that you're worthy of love also prevents despair/giving up. it's of utmost importance to the survival of very small children to develop a worldview that keeps them alive, even if it's by totally magical thinking and at the cost of their ability to perceive reality or navigate normal human relationships. the same thing can happen to adults in abusive domestic situations.

anyway once you're out of that situation it's time to get really pissed off

when I was a kid I read a sci-fi story where some researcher discovers that all crocodiles since prehistory have had the same congenital heart defect, so they set about curing it. when they do, suddenly their research specimen starts getting stronger and healthier and growing rapidly and developing new appendages, and it turns out all crocodilians were actually stunted sickly forms of dragons. that story really stuck with me because it's basically an expression of the "what if I went to the doctor and they discovered I was deficient in one special vitamin and then I took a pill and all my problems and ailments vanished immediately" fantasy.
