After the birthday came the first day of school for the twins. We had been looking at various ones close to us, but in the end felt that sending them to my old school was the best idea. It would allow me to visit the studio with ease but more importantly they still had top academic results and diverse teaching staff.

Delilah: Papa, I don’t want to go to school

Byron: Why not?

Delilah: The kids could be loud. What if they mess with my stuff?

Dylan: Do you know if we’re in the same class Mama?

Daniela: I think so. There’s a class where everyone who is just starting school goes for a while

As I moved between guests I noticed Fidget had got himself up on the table. Silly cat. Sighing I made my way over.

Geoffrey: Stop eating the cake Fidget

Art: I was going to get a piece but I guess not

Byron: Fidget, what are you doing?

Fidget: *looks up sheepishly*

Byron: *sighs* You can’t eat sweets, it’s bad for you. You’ll get sick again and one day Samson will charge us for a home visit

Fidget: *meows*

Byron: Come on, I’ll put the cake away to remove the temptation

Paul: You do how many after school activities?

Emily: Three. It’s okay, they’re on separate days

Paul: Still, on top of your homework- it must be a lot

Emily: *shrugs* Nothing I can’t handle. Yearbook club is pretty quiet this time of year anyway. Athletics was a no brainer since I want to get a regular fitness routine. Student council is the most time intensive but if I want a chance of running it in my senior years I need to put in the work early

Paul: *chuckles* Just don’t forget to enjoy being a teenager

Delilah picked at the crumbs on her plate. She knew her papa had tried his best but... the cake had a lot of room for improvement. For one, the frosting. It was just water, icing sugar and food colouring. Delilah had gotten a cupcake a few weeks ago that was topped with buttercream and she felt that was the superior choice. She was deep in thought when Fidget jumped onto the table in front of her, bringing her back to the party.

Delilah: Fidge! I don’t know how good the cake is for you

Fidget: *meows*

Delilah: No I will not be your lookout. I got in trouble last time when you threw up and Samson had to rush over

Third Round - Day Four Epilogue

Nicola: What's this?

Arista: Extra footage?

Posy: Is it behind the scenes gossip?

Quetzalli: Hold on a minute...

Hana: This isn't even our group

Kay: Please don't let anything have gone wrong

Berenice: Ha! They did forget the footage

Yasmine: I can't think of a rhyme... what is happening?

Deanna: Hey Devin

Devin: Why are we in here?

Deanna: Kennedy is doing nectar practice and I didn't want to be overheard

Devin: Is something wrong with Kennedy?

Deanna: No! Nothing is wrong with Kennedy

Devin: Then why are we being covert?

Deanna: Did you watch the dates today?

Devin: No I usually wait until after I talk to you so I don't bias your comments

Deanna: That's... sensible

Devin: Did something go wrong? Don't tell me both hot heads lost their temper

Deanna: Oh no! Nephinae was lovely. And Dee wasn't mad...

Devin: ...but she was something?

Deanna: *sighs* More like wasn't something

Deanna: I don't mean to be a prima donna, but she ignored me for three quarters of our date

Devin: She- really? At this stage?

Deanna: Yes. I've been trying to tell myself that it's because she didn't enjoy the debates, her fun went down, but I can't help feeling... neglected. I know it's stupid when I've got these other women here-

Devin: Nothing you feel is stupid De. I take it you want to do something?

Deanna: Can I do something? I mean, is it allowed?

Devin: Contracts say you have the final word on who is or isn't on set for any of this

Deanna: I didn't want to let anyone go outside of the commencement ceremonies but- well that ship sailed in round one

Devin: You want to let Dee go?

Deanna: I know it might seem like I'm being petty or overreacting but the more I think about, I know she's not the one for me. I mean out of all the contestants left I have the lowest friendship with her... by quite a bit

Devin: You feel like your attraction might have blinded you?

Deanna: But if I let her go everyone's going to get upset

Devin: De, you've said she's not the one for you. If you know for sure, deep down, it's better to let her go now. You'll just feel worse if you make her jump through hoops knowing she's going to get cut

Deanna: I guess that's true

Devin: If you want to let her go, I'll sort it out production wise. The show can and will go on

Deanna: But you don't hate me for it?

Devin: Of course I don't

Deanna: Okay. Then yes, I think it's best to let her go

Nicola: I have to agree with Deanna. If Dee acted like that-

Arista: -then they are not meant for each other

Posy: Now this is tea

Quetzalli: *chuckles* Try not to look so gleeful

Hana: So she's going after one bad date? I mean I would make the same call but still

Kay: I think it was off the scales bad from the sound of it

Berenice: *gasps* Dee...

Yasmine: Oh gee... I'm sorry about your friend Berenice, probably not the time for rhymes

Deanna heads upstairs to talk to Dee herself.

Dee: Hey- aren't we meant to not- your skin!

Deanna: *coughs* Yeah I'm not doing great. But we have to talk

Dee: *closes book* That sounds scarily stereotypical

Deanna: I'm sorry to do this abruptly but, after our last date... I don't think we're meant for each other

Dee is quiet but let's Deanna sit on the bed while she thinks of a response.

Dee: If that's the way you feel, I understand

Deanna: You do?

Dee: I would like to say I had a bad day but- I got more caught up in the competition element than the dating element. I lost sight of the woman behind it all

Deanna: Yeah it is pretty... out there

Dee: Maybe if we had met in a coffee shop or across a workbench we'd have clicked differently

Deanna: I don't think our problem was clicking. Relationships are about more than that first spark

Dee: We couldn't build a fire

Deanna: Pretty much. I'm sorry to do this mid round but it seemed like you were over it

Dee: Yeah, I guess I am

Deanna: I'll make sure they give you the pay for a full rounds participation, I just didn't want to make a fool of anyone

Dee: I get it. My bags are already packed for end of day, I'll go to the airport instead of the hotel I think

Devin: I said I could tell her

Deanna: I know but she deserved to hear from me *coughs*

Devin: You are not well

Deanna: I felt ill earlier. Nephinae said to ask for a day off but we can't afford it

Devin: We can. You come with me and stay with ma and pa for the night and tomorrow. Let them make you some comfort food

Deanna: But the contestants. I need to tell-

Devin: I can do that. You need to take care of yourself

Nicola: Aww, I do miss that ballroom

Arista: So this was at the hotel where we all stay when we're not in the villa

Posy: They rotated groups at 10pm but this is where they took us for announcements

Quetzalli: So you see the girls that just got back are in normal clothes

Hana: The group that is ready to go to the villa have their everyday clothes

Kay: Everyone in PJ's would be staying the night at the hotel anyway

Berenice: Do you see Nyami?

Yasmine: I think she's right by Devin

Devin: Come in everyone, grab a seat anywhere

Looks of confusion are exchanged as the women sit.

Devin: You may have noticed Dee is not with us any more. Deanna was not feeling the connection and decided to let Dee go

There are whispers around the room as the contestants try to figure out if anyone knew.

Devin: We are doing our best to avoid letting people go outside of commencement ceremonies but we do not want to make people stay if it is clear things won't work out, or if you feel you want to leave

The whispers quieten as anxiety seems to set in for many.

Devin: For the group challenge this week we are booked to have you compete as groups. Since a team one member down will be affected production has decided to split the Baymax group

Eyes settle on Nephinae, Kennedy and Harmony who look uncomfortable.

Devin: Harmony, you'll join the WALL-E group. Kennedy, the Ron group. And lastly Nephinae you will join the EVE group. Tomorrow will be a rest day for everyone as Deanna is feeling unwell. If you have any questions I'll be here tomorrow from noon until two, but for now, go get some sleep

Nicola: There's a room full of moody faces poor dears

Arista: They seem more rattled than I thought. I'm so glad we're out of it

Posy: Surely more of them should be happy, it means less competition for them

Quetzalli: Maybe but it has to have them questioning their connection to Deanna

Hana: So the group we watch gains an extra member? I am actually curious how Apolline and Nephinae will interact

Kay: Will it be more jokes or temper tantrums I wonder

Berenice: Hopefully the competition won't go under!

Yasmine: I'll think they'll be fine. Though they may need some wine

Berenice: I think we should stop it with this. Otherwise our commentary will be… a miss

This was tough but the date completely fell apart. Add to that Dee not interacting with anyone back at the villa. She seemed over it and her friendship points were 78, the next lowest who is still with us was Abby on 95 (we also had a 96 and two 97's) so that's quite a gap. I don't like to cut people mid round but as I thought on it I realised groups would actually be easier for me to manage as three groups of five than have Dee stay until the ceremony.

Massive thanks to Sleepyselkie for stepping up to the plate and writing the enigma that was Dee. And another thanks for consoling my worried self about this decision. They did an amazing job and I'm sad to lose another ghost written character but I can't play favourites.

So what's happening with Berenice and Yasmine? They'll be doing freelance commentary, jumping in to comment on all three remaining groups at some point in their days.

Phoenix: Hey, sorry I’m late. Had to finish fixing some stuff for tomorrow. Thought my old job was a lot, but damn… this is worse. Um, are you okay, Kendra?

Kendra: There’s something I need to tell you. I should’ve said it sooner, but I had to figure some stuff out first. Now I’m ready.

Phoenix: Jesus, you’re scaring me. Is this why you’ve been avoiding me all this time? Well? Are you gonna say it or should I guess?

Kendra: I’m pregnant, Phoenix.

Phoenix: What? You are? Since when?

Kendra: That’s not important right now.

Phoenix: Not important? C’mon, it’s important. There’s stuff we should be doing-...

Kendra: No, wait. Listen. I’ve been thinking about us since the last time we talked.

Phoenix: I know, but I can fix it. I told you. And this… this changes things, right? This means something different, I hope.

Kendra: It doesn’t change anything, because I’m not keeping the baby. I think us… it was a mistake from the start, Phoenix. I’m not gonna bring a kid into this mess. That wouldn’t be responsible, and that’s not the kind of mom I wanna be… and I’m sure that’s not the kind of dad you wanna be either.

Phoenix: So… you just call me here to tell me that and that’s it?

Kendra: I’m sorry, Phoenix, but I don’t think I’m the right one for you… I’m not Roxanne, and a kid isn’t gonna change that.

Phoenix: I know you’re not her, Kendra.

Kendra: I was your friend, then your lover while she was alive because you never let me be anything else. And now you know I’m pregnant, you want something serious. You’re looking for her in me. And I get it, you miss her, but I can’t be her, no one ever will be. You still have your kids. Maybe you should focus on them instead of what you lost… that’s my last advice.

Jordan felt responsible for once, doing what needed to be done, stepping up, setting things right in the world. It felt good. It felt worth celebrating.

"Hold, up, mister," Maria said. "That little monkey won't go to bed for six more hours."

Oh, how they missed the good old days of midday toddler naps.

"But, I have an idea," she added. "Maybe we can drop her with my mom. You know, because we're going to paint the boys' room. She did offer to babysit while we work on the house. But first, I need to confess something."

"I kind of told Steph that you might like to help out at Justin's shop. I guess he's really swamped. I didn't know Sharon was going to ask you back, too. Are you mad?"

Jordan didn't look mad. He looked surprised and proud. "My dad used to say, a skilled tradesman will never lack work."

"It might be too much," Maria said. "I don't want you to burn out."

"Actually, the extra money will look great for my custody hearing. I think we can probably make it work. I'll do mornings at the hotel, but no evening events. Then I'll help out Justin later in the afternoons. All good?"

"See, I knew you could fix anything."

He ran his fingers from her cheek to her chin and held her there. "Anything else you need fixed?"

Maria burst into stardust, melted from head to toe. He was gonna have to carry her to the truck. "Come on, JoJo, let's go see Nonna. Wanna have a sleepover?"

They had a lot of painting to do. They'd be painting all night.
