Task 1:

A) Differences between the following...

Series:

Series is a continuing programme over many episodes. Each episode continues on from the last. A series continues until the last episode where the storyline ends.

An example of a series would be a comedy programme like two and a half men its always being continued

Serial:

A serial is a non fiction story over so many episodes and its done in seasons so like ‘season one serial’ ‘season two serial’ so it will only be viewed every season.

An example of this wold be a programme like ibiza weekender as again its done in seasons theres so many episodes for a season then thats it till the next season.

Unit 4 Production Management:

I made a music video based off the Manchester bombing attack that killed 22 victims. The reason that made this decision final was due to the death of mums friend Eliane and our friend Deans mate Martyn. The message i portrayed through my music video was that whatever happens in life wether its a bomb attack, loosing someone etc, you just have to get up and carry on in life as the world still spins, you have to find something in which you can express your emotions in. In my music video the storyline is that the main girl (Beth) lost her friend (Kelly) in the attack and so to cope with the trauma and upset she expresses her emotions by dancing as when she dances she feels as though she's with her friend again one last time.

The way i went about filming this was off my own back with my own camera and a tripod from college. I spoke to both my friends on performing arts Beth Darlington and Kelly Bashaw if i could have permission for them to dance in my video if they'd like to do it in which they both liked the idea and were honoured to be apart of it. Both Beth and Kelly made up their own choreography to the song for my video in their spare time which was fantastic.

I did the music video to Ariana Grande - thinking about you as the way interpreted it was that we are thinking about Manchester. The music video was lyrical we went off the lyrics e.g. “but at least I have the memories” for that section we had photos of those who passed in the attack as they may not be with us but they're remembered. For the dancing we walked to a nearby open field, the reason being for this is because its open and free. 

The outcome of this video was exceptional, I achieved everything that i wanted to like the shots and camera angles, It came out exactly how i had it planned in my head and on the story board to look.

LO35 - 5th of June 2017: Task 1:

Experimental video:

I think there is a space for experimental films as they allow you to break the rules and play around with anything rather than sticking to everyday visual media. They are good as they allow you to create a work of art in a way that you interpret life. These short films are created to provoke a reaction or an emotional response, they're created to make viewers engage and make them realise things they wouldn't normally. For example one of the short films i liked reverting back to the links was ‘Breathe’, reason being for this is because it made me think that we don't realise how many breaths we take for different things in a day or in a life time e.g. taking a breath to blow out candles on a birthday cake or taking a breath on a run. It makes you realise how valid life is until that last breath. With this short film you can relate everyday life to it.

one of the short films i didn't get and didn't like reverting back to the links was life. Reason being is its boring it doesn't grab the viewers attention. I don't see the point in it, not just that everyone likes colour this clip is in black and white which adds to it being boring. Also i think it gives off the wrong message to me thats not life thats giving someone money to look at yourself in the mirror, if the person has a problem with their faces or can't face the mirror because of feeling ugly or body confidence issues they should speak up, get help and shouldn't feel that way because we are all different and beautiful in our own way.

Task 3, Script purposes:

So I've looked two scripts, the first one was called Heartbeat. This script is an episode script for the series of Heartbeat. This script is very descriptive as there is a lot of dialogue and it will be more complicated in a sense that theres going to be lots of different shots here, there and everywhere and not just that different locations. However the second script i looked at was a camera script (variety club showbiz awards 2007). This script is very static and straight forward, its simple in the fact that its the same shots over and over e.g. interview shots cutting back and to etc and because we are focused on one thing being the stage. They differ from one another as one is busy and has a lot going on where as one is structured.

Task6:

Personal engagement: 

My personal engagement when creating the short horror film (stalked) was assistant director. I helped the main director (Caitlin) with ideas we could use for example different shots that i thought would look good and stand out. I discussed with Caitlin ways in which i thought would make things easier for us for example how we are going to go about filming it and what shots we should get first. I also helped out with Caitlin with any changes made to the script and changes in locations.

Working with actors:

Working with the actors was good fun as its good to work with new people. I helped out with the actors as i told them how Caitlin and i wanted them to act wether it be either angry, sad, happy or creepy etc. i also helped out with the actors as there were scenes that involved phone call conversations and between each phone call there had to be 10/15/20 minutes so i kept the time and told them when it was their part, when to ring and when to go.

Success of special effects:

For special effects makeup we needed our actor Dan who plays Sam in our short horror film, to have a bullet wound to the head. For this we had Caitlin’s friend Patricia do the special effects makeup and the success of it was fantastic it worked really well with filming a dead scene and looked good in itself.

Team communication: 

Between Caitlin and i we have strong communication skills and work well as a team as we discuss and share ideas with one another and help each other out. There was one time i fell off track and wasn't listening to Caitlin as i was laughing. Also sometimes i felt as though i was being bossed around which was rude and Caitlin took full charge with me not having a chance to do anything. However with it being Caitlin’s idea and being director i let it go but other than that team communication skills were strong and we stuck together. 

Technical problems:

Whilst filming and making our short horror film there was five technical problems. The first one was that i had forgotten to bring the boom mic with me for filming, our solution was we got my mum to meet us with it and we got a lift to her, got the boom mic and got a lift back to location. The second one was that Caitlin had forgot the Sd card for the camera, our solution for this was to walk to Tesco to buy another in which we did. The third one was whilst editing we notice you can see the shadow of the boom mic in the background although there wasn't much we could do about it. The fourth one was that again whilst editing we discovered that you can also see the tripod in the background aswell. Finally the fifth one was that our computer said “media offline”, our solution for this was we got Carlos to re track all our footage in which we got it all back.  

Success of final project in relation to original intensions: 

I think we have really pulled it out the bag with our short horror film, how we went about was weird in a good way. Our Short film came out exactly how we imagined apart from the little faults and changes e.g. the change in location and script though i think the change was for the better but the little faults e.g the fact you can see the boom mic and tripod in the background, those are things we can improve upon. In my own personal opinion i feel as the ending could have been a bit more scary and dramatic maybe have him actually going to stab her with that sudden movement but cut to black with a horror sound effect before he reaches her just to make it that bit more of a stronger ending. 

Schedule issues: 

With our schedule everything we noted down and dated went exactly to plan to only issue in our schedule was that we tried to get all our filming done Monday night however we didn't manage it and it fell into Tuesday night.

Comedy - A dogs purpose

The comedy i watched was ‘A dogs dogs purpose’ directed by Lasse Hallstrom. Within the first five minutes we notice that all the scenes are bright. We notice that the music is light, upbeat, energetic and funky. We then get into the film and notice talking dog followed by scenes that make viewers laugh. We figure out that the story line is all about  dog named Bailey and hi purpose in life as he comes back to life but in different dogs with different life styles. 

Romance - How to be single

Within the first five minutes we notice that again the scenes are bright. However the music is more peaceful, its more chilled and relaxed. We also figure out that the story line is about a couple who take a break and during that break they each find someone else.

With a comedy and a romance, we know its a comedy because normally they are based on something imaginary e.g. a talking dog, they are guaranteed to have scenes to make you laugh or they have something weird. However romance is always about love in a relationship or it can be quite sad and be about a break where they realise they are made for each other or they find someone else.

Re - Sub - Down by law:

so we watched down by law and every so many minutes in we stopped and noted down what we had got so far. With 15 minutes into the the film we noticed that there were some extreme panning shots, the names of the characters were established (Zac & Jack), Jack seems a bit of a gambler and seedy and a bit of a dreamer, there is also a threatening argument where a girl points a gun, where as Zac is homeless and appears to be aggressive..

Re - Sub - Bums on seats - Film studies.

La La La Land (2016) La La La Land is a mixture of comedy, drama and music type of film that was released in 2016 on the 25th of December which is a PG13, 128 min film and its about a 'Jazz pianist who falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles. This film was awarded six oscars e.g. 'Best performance by an actress in a leading role', 'Best achievement in directing', 'Best achievement at cinematography', 'Best achievement in music written for motion pictures (original score)', 'Best achievement in music written for motion pictures (original song)', and so on, which altogether 184 wins and 224 nominations. This film also got top rated movies #90. There was a lot of reviews comments and rates for this film being 8.3 stars and this film was marketed via advertising so trailers that show you a bit of it and tell you when it will be available in cinema to go see, the news and box office as they put down an estimated budget down and in the first opening weekend they received more than what they budgeted and then the gross came to even more than both the estimated budget and the opening weekend.

Re - Sub - Me and my movies - Film studies.

The genre i like is Comedy. This genre appeals to me as a film goer because i like a good family feel, happy, funny film. I enjoy watching a film that makes me laugh because that is what intrigues me especially as i also like programmes on comedy channel on or E4 on TV. Something that keeps me entertained takes my mind off reality for a bit, something i can zone into. A good example of this is 'Grown Ups' its funny because even though they're adults their age doesn't necessarily equal maturity, its funny to see adults being immature about something a teenage boy/girl would be immature about. The relationship between the film and the viewer all depends, some people may find it silly and not funny at all as they think they should grow up and act their age, they may find it child like and think they're disgusting. However then you have got people like myself who find it funny because they're acting like people my age and it funny because it shows that even though they all may be getting on with age they still know how to have fun and what a good laugh is and because they're all boys it suits the caption on the front that 'boys will be boys, some longer than others. Most comedies are rated 12/15 upwards simply because of the language and rudeness and levels of immaturity within them.

Re - Sub - Old for new! Film Studies!

The parent Trap from 1961 compared to 1998: The parent trap is about two different girls who are sent to a girls camp, One from London and one from California. The two girls do not get on in the beginning and play nasty pranks on one another till the point where they are kicked of their cabins with their friends and are sent to a cabin in the middle of the woods where they are both made to stay in together just the two of them. The two them become friends and discover their birthdays are the same day and that they look a like which equals they are twins. One twin has never seen her dad and one has never seen her mum and so they decide to switch places meaning that their parents would have to meet again to switch them back as they want their parents to be together again and the story unfolds from there. Between the old film in 1961 compared to the remake in 1998 there are a lot of differences, for example... Back then the editing wasn't as strong as it was in 1998 as you can tell via the quality of the film and the colouring. In the remake the twins have a photo each that has been torn right down the middle, the one who has never met her mum has the half photo of her mum and the one who hasn't met her dad has the half photo of her dad, when they join their half photos together it makes a full photo and not only that they are each wearing a locket given to them at birth with the first letters of their name on the back. In the old film one twin has a photo of her mother and the other twin admits its her mother too but that she's never met her. In the remake their dad meets another woman named Meredith who is selfish and wants their dad all to herself and therefore the twins do horrible things to her e.g. When she's a sleep on her blow up bed, pulling it out onto the lake whereas in the old one they don't they do something else and one of them gets slapped. In the remake the twins get their parents having dinner on a fancy boat where as in the old one they twins get their parents together and the twins perform for them. Obviously back then they weren't big on effects. They have took the original made it better and changed things slightly for the whole purpose of a remake and to make it their own and not copyright.
