"Yeah?" Chanyeol hummed, pretending to be distracted but he had heard every word that fell from Joonmyun's mouth. He churned them over and over in his head as his eyes discreetly sized up the burns. They were shallow, and done too neatly to be on accident. It was as if Joonmyun had done it on purpose. "Do you want me to take a look at it when I'm finished?"

He leaned back now, finished with the procedure and admired the stitching he had done on his patient's limb before beginning to clean up the mess he had made. He tossed the leftover thread into the biohazardous waste along with his blood stained gloves, moving to pick up Joonmyun's chart again to mark off how he had tolerated the procedure. He leaned his tall form against the wall, scribbling in illegible notes where needed "I'll subscribe you hydrocodones to help with the pain, but if don't take it if you're going to operating machinery or going to work or anything like that because it's a narcotic and it will make you drowsy."

At this point, his eyes glanced up at the patient, taking in his features as his eyes drifted down to his burn marks once more. "If the pain gets better and you don't want to take the narcotics anymore, just take regular ibuprofen. You can get that over the counter." Chanyeol stood up this time, taking a step towards the bed once more as he lowered the chart down by his side where his arm hung. His other hand slipped into his pockets, his body language very nonchalant. "Would you also like some cream to help with the scarring?" His eyes pointedly glanced at the other's arms, tracing over the deliberate marks against the otherwise fine skin.

Joonmyun wasn’t necessarily afraid of hospitals or doctors, but it was nice to have such a laid back, casual doctor to tend to his injury. He could easily smile at him, even if his words weren’t really that funny. He nodded his head to the nurse to express his gratitude before he turned back to Chanyeol. 

He waited for Chanyeol’s verdict quietly. He couldn’t look at the laceration himself, it made him feel sick to the stomach and lightheaded. A career in medicine had never been something he had considered, and this only served as a reminder as to why he was better suited with literature. 

The stitching wasn’t painless, but he had gone through worse and so he just tried to keep his breathing steady while his eyes were fixed to the wall behind the doctor’s shoulder. The question made him highly uncomfortable, although he had anticipated it already. 

"I… It would be a lie to say it was an accident," he admitted quietly. The parallel, neat lines could hardly be written off as accidental, especially with the way he had them on both forearms. "But… It’s nothing to worry about, doctor. I’ve got… everything under control."

You never know; they may come back to you. If they don't.. maybe it's not worth having them in your life.

Everyone has done things they are not proud of. You should not focus on them, love. Your failures will make you learn, and lead to a growing list of accomplishments, will they not?

Maybe, but not at the expense of losing someone I care about. So in that case, I don’t deserve to move on.

Sounds similar to myself- fucking up constantly. You don't seem like someone who can be that bad though.

On the contrary, I have done many things that I’m not proud of. My list of failures is probably twice as long as my list of accomplishments, my dear friend.
