This was the Lena she knew, right here. Every wall in the world that could be pitched was just as quickly as she’d been down. It made her wonder if she really had hallucinated the girl looking so unkept. Perhaps appearance wise she hadn’t put herself together. But the perfect little princess act was already up. As if she was so much better than Kalina somehow. At least that’s how Kalina had always saw it. Perhaps Lena would take a different stance when she was on the throne, but she treated her as much like a bastard as the older snobby royals. It was impossible for the blonde to see some of what her sister showed was jealousy. “Well, it’s no paid private tutoring sessions of course,” she drawled, any amusement in her tone falling lame. Kalina wasn’t sure if she was jealous at all for the caveats that Lena likely got for being a royal. Someone fluffing her pillow every night or having every little thing she wanted simply given to her wasn’t what she wanted. At school she’d had plenty of people buzzing around her for her royal connection as if she’d been the top of foodchain. Though she’d quickly knocked that image from the mind’s of the others. What she really wanted was to be treated like a human, at least by her own sisters. Not that she’d ever say as much. “What exactly are you doing out anyway?” She inquired, curious about the girl’s state she’d discovered her in.
Kalina x Lena - “I’m going crazy”
@chaoticcravings
One of the frustrating parts of Lena’s blackouts was the fact that she had no indication of when they were going to occur. It wasn’t like something switched in her mind and she knew what was coming. There was no twitch her hand or feeling in the pit of her stomach. It was like she blinked and everything went black. No magical lead up, no signal, just nothing. Part of Lena craved some type of indication of what was coming. That way she would be able to bolt herself up in her room to protect everyone else. Instead she was left with the uncertainty, the dread that at any moment something would flick the switch and she would lose all control of herself.
Coming out of a blackout was like waking up after a drunken night of partying. Her head pounded and she had no recollection of anything that had happened. She didn’t know what time of the day it was, she couldn’t explain the cuts she had over her hands and nothing was around her to give her any indication. “What did you do?” she whispered to herself. The Polish princess was doing her best to keep her breathing steady, but everything around her was a blur. Everything in that moment just felt heightened. Her head whipped around to follow the sound of what seemed like footsteps. It took a second for her eyes to focus completely on the person, but when they came into view her heart sank. Were ghosts really coming now to haunt her in these moments? Kalina wasn’t somebody that Lena had seen for a long time. It was as quickly as she came into her life and pronounced part of the family that she was swept away. Not before burdening the princess with a jealous and somewhat distaste for the girl. Maybe that was it, everyone Lena ever had bad feelings about were going to haunt her when the blackouts happened. “It finally happened, I”m going crazy,” she started rambling, grabbing her head between her hands to try and make herself find any sense of sane that she had left. “I had a grievance and this is my punishment.” In that moment Lena felt like she could feel the world spinning beneath her feet.

Honestly Kalina wasn’t really sure what had happened with the boarding school thing. A part of her had asked to go, or at least suggested going away. But she knew her adoptive mother had been adamant about it. Kalina wasn’t stupid enough to believe the woman had actually adopted her because she wanted to. She knew she only did it for the publicity of the whole thing. It made her look like a saint, forgiving her cheating husband and taking care for his bastard child as a mother would. Behind closed doors it’d been a different story. Either way, one morning she’d woken up and all of her bags had been packed up for her. She was shipped off and slowly but surely the times she saw her sisters and ‘mother’ dwindled down to nothing. Her father came around, but only when he could sneak away to do so. “Probably so I can behave like a royal even when nobody is expected to treat me as such,” there was more distaste in her words than bitterness. She wasn’t bitter so much that she wasn’t considered a royal. The title mattered little to her. For her it was more the fact that she wasn’t treated like a human most times. “Boarding school and college,” she tried to hide her displeasure at the question. Honestly had either of the women called her sisters even noticed she had gone? Maybe that was better than if they’d celebrated it.

“Yes, I do supposed it’s quite likely this little garment will end up breaking down and part now wherever it goes,” she agreed, giving it one last nod of feigned respect, as if the jacket truly was having a funeral. A brief break from her inner monologue had been nice, though she doubted the other royals would take to her quite so easily. “Actually, I’m just trying to get a feeling for this place,” she admitted to the girl. “My name is Kalina, and I’m not exactly brand new but I’m knew enough to not know one area of the grounds from the other,” she confessed. Usually, weakness or cluelessness wasn’t something she liked to admit to but she supposed there wasn’t a whole lot of ammunition that could be given to another royal from her not knowing the grounds. Especially since this girl didn’t seem like the type to care. “I haven’t taken it upon myself to wander yet. So I’m trying to learn all the little ins and outs. Not sure if I can handle another detention for being late.”

It didn’t matter how many times she stared into her closet, Maia still wasn’t used to how over dramatic they were. More expensive didn’t mean more luxurious. There was a part of her that all she wanted was to live in her cheap jeggings and sweater. Instead, Maia was dressed up to the tops in her runway ready designer jeans and leather jacket. It was taking a while but she was slowly learning where buildings were. One plus was that she didn’t have to cook for herself for once. Cafeteria food to her was like a five star restaurant and she was going to soak that up while she could. Making her way to the cafeteria, the young Bolivian girl saw her own reflection in one of the windows of the buildings. All she could do was secretly cringe at herself. The jacket was way too much. Peeling the fabric from her body, Maia threw it into one of the trash bins that were scattered around the estate grounds. It wasn’t like her pretend father would be broken hearted over one jacket. Besides, the jeans and silk tank top suited her better without it anyway.

A small part of Kalina honestly thought she herself might have been hallucinating this entire scene. This just didn’t feel right. Her whole life, ever since she’d known Lena, the girl had been entirely put together. Not a hair out of place, grades perfect. She was perfect, as far as Kalina had known growing up. Kind to everyone asides from her perhaps. The perfect princess, everything her parents could have wanted. Sure, she didn’t hold half as much stock in her ‘adoptive mother’ now that she knew the truth, but before, she’d been desperate to impress her, to be more than just the child of a love affair. She’d given up eventually, but that jealousy still sat uncomfortably in her gut. Now here she was, looking frazzled and unkept. Kalina almost didn’t believe it. There was nothing wrong with perfect Lena. Or maybe there was an all the hoops and flawlessness had just been a mask. The femme realized rather quickly wherever Lena was, she was hardly present enough to acknowledge her. So she gave up on trying to speak, and just watched carefully, cautiously almost. Perhaps this was all some cruel joke. Some prank meant to trip her up. It was hard to say honestly. Finally, some clarity made it’s way to Lena’s blue eyes. “Yes, father sent me,” she told the girl easily. It was a little bit harder now, deciding what to call the man who’d raised her. Sure, biologically he was her father. But it was hard to even know who he was supposed to be to her. After all, someone else had called her daughter once too. It was all very confusing.

In her years, Kalina had seen royals burn thousand dollar garments simply because a stitch looked out of place. This wasn’t so unusual, watching one of them toss a jacket into the garbage bin. However, it was slightly unusual that she wasn’t immediately shunned by the girl. Most royals knew her standing with her adoptive mother, or had heard her father’s story of infidelity. Royals didn’t change, even if bastards were considered legitimate heirs now. If only they knew the truth of her father’s crimes. She didn’t recognize this girl though. Perhaps her country had been wrought with war, or she was from one of those quiet families making a desperate attempt at the throne when they hadn’t held it in years. “Rest in piece,” Kalina played right along. As long as someone was actually talking to her, she supposed she was on the right track.

Kalina was half asleep and the fog of the alcohol from the night before was heavily cast over her head. It took her several minutes to even be able to compute the information around her, or even remember where she was. She might not have been on the drugs anymore, but she didn’t think her mind would ever recover from what she’d undergone at that institution. Even waking up she felt it some mornings, or her memory. This could as easily be blamed on the first hangover she had in a while. His words brought her attention to the bags and she groaned. Her roommate. This guy. God was punishing her, clearly. For having a one night stand. That must have been it. With a grumble, the blonde dropped the sheet from her body and looked around. She supposed there was no point in modesty now. She wouldn’t have usually taken the offer to shower, but what was the point in running off when she would be living with this guy until her adoptive mother no longer wanted to see her dead. “Just so you know, I’m just using you for your body,” she said in a bored tone as she entered the bathroom. It was her new policy, be clear, and even a little cruel so people knew exactly her intentions. Without further words, she stepped into the shower. Her toiletries had already been set up there. She’d taken up pretty much every shelf, things her father had bought her. Perhaps a ‘sorry I had your father who wasn’t actually your father and your mother killed as a kid and that I let my psycho wife almost turn you into a vegetable’ kind of gift. It would take more than a couple of expensive products to undo the damage.
Roommates - Jayden x Kalina
Last night was Jayden’s first night at the estate and despite the fact he has only gotten to the place and his sole purpose of being there was to improve his behaviour, improve how he acts and basically make him more ‘prince’ worthy. Prince, what a pathetic title really. Nothing the boy hated more than being reffered to as prince. In what world was he a prince, princes should be like the characters you see in those animated movies for kids not fucked up like him. In what world does a prince spend a whole year at a institution only to later be transferred to a more posher version of it. That’s what the estate was to him. A big institution that was supposed to fix whatever was broken. After all wasn’t that the reason everyone was here, cause they were fucked up in one way or another. I mean you could probably name any issue that a person could ever have and someone at this place probably went through that kind of shit. People from the outside could think that being a royal is all glamour , that when you have money you don’t have issues. Oh how wrong they were, when you have money thats where the issues start. On his first ever night at the estate Jayden managed to find a way to sneak out and get himself to the nearest town where he once again severly abused alcohol and whatever kind of drug anyone could sell him. One thing led to another and soon enough he found himself in a heated situation with a rather familiar blonde. He recalled the face but couldn’t quite put a name on it. Kaylie, Karoline, Kaline, Kalina either way not that it matter as clearly the two of them weren’t necessarily fussed about trying to learn eachothers names in the first place. The rest of the night was blury at least until the morning. Slowly opening his eyes the sudden headache that always haunted him after a night of heavy drinking came rushing and hitting him harder than a truck would hit a pedestrian whilst going full speed. Slowly his gaze strated to travel around the room as he tried to adjust to the light. “Fuck me.” The male groaned lightly under his breath, Australian accent that he developed after living in Australia for seven years lacing around his words. After a couple more glances the room started to look strangely familiar to him, and thats when it hit him. He was back at the estate, not in his bed that was for sure. Looking over at the bend that was placed around 6ft away from the one he was currently in he spotted a familiar sports bag. Which was when another realisation flooded him. and just when he thought his life couldn’t get worse the girl he was currently in bed with was supposed to be his roommate in this shithole. “Wake up Princess, guess we bouta be roomies so you might as well remind me of your name Kaylana is it?” The male spoke as he got up from her bed and pulled on his boxers before shifting over to his own space.

Kalina was trying to keep her head down. Her father had told her to be careful, after all her ‘mother’ didn’t know she was here. As far as she knew, she was under the influence of copious amounts of drugs and all but strapped to a bed in a glorified insane asylum. Of course the doctors there could be bought so they weren’t exactly treating Kalina by the book. Or she wouldn’t have been there at all. Truthfully, her dad hadn’t given her any idea of what to do in seeing her sister’s, she just assumed he had taken care of it. Not like she really knew them anyway. Her ‘mother’ had made it clear she wasn’t wanted near the others. She’d always assumed she’d just been against the adoption, that raising her father’s bastard child wasn’t something she’d wanted to do but something she’d done anyway. Even year or two, her father’s will must have given way because he was not able to barter her way into events anymore either. It was night time, and Kalina couldn’t sleep. Her mind was on the shooting. With everything going on, this new place and the drugs finally having swept through her system she could really think about it. She thought about the gun pointed at her head, the wound in her stomach. She remembered touching it and feeling the blood spill over her hands. She even remembered seeing him laying on the floor next to her after the second loud noise. The walk helped a little bit. She couldn’t see him as clearly in the light and different surroundings. In the shadows and the dark, he played easily in and out of her vision. There was no place in mind. Just somewhere. At least until she found herself running into Lena. She almost didn’t recognize her at first, didn’t realize who she was. Lena was always so perfectly put together, and this didn’t look like her. The rambling and mumbling sent Kalina for a loop. Is this what her father had meant when he said it wouldn’t be a problem? Had the girl lost her mind? “Lena?” It was hard to fight the confusion. It was also hard to feel a tiny bit satisfied. Lena might not have been a ringleader in her torture, but she had outcast her and ignored her just as much as the next. Alongside that, she had her family. She hadn’t had the people who had loved and cared for her murdered. Kalina’s whole life was a lie. Her name wasn’t even really Kalina. She felt jealous for Lena and the simplicity of not having that. “You’re not looking so hot,” she tried to keep a control on her tone.

In a way, Kalina thought it was fair to say she didn’t know where to start. Sure she knew some of the royals faces, but honestly, she wasn’t hanging out with them in her down time. The only time she’d ever truly been around other royals was when she was attending events, and parents would sense her ‘mother’s’ disdain for her and frequently tell their children to steer clear of her. It’d made things a lot harder to make friends. The classes felt like a joke to her too honestly. After all, she would never see a throne. Alexa was older, and if her ‘mother’ was still alive she’d have a lot to say about her ever even being considered. The strangest part really was trying to pretend like she belonged here. Sure, maybe some other royals might never see the throne. But she had just never been apart of the world. There’d always been one curtain there. Approaching people in part made her slightly anxious if she was honest. But she supposed this girl wasn’t so bad, plus she was intrigued by the impromptu tossing of a jacket in the dumpster. “Well, that was inconsiderate of it. And in poor taste,” the blonde said, taking form much like she was standing in front of a casket. “I’m sure it was a lovely jacket, aside from being bitchy about haircuts.” This wasn’t so bad. Easy, light. Joking. She doubted all the royals would be like this though.

Honestly, Kalina didn’t remember much of her time in the mental institution. She didn’t know a lot about it if she was honest. It’d been about two months that she’d been there, she knew that. She had been there long enough for her stomach to start healing. She could still feel the internal pain though, despite having done most of the internal healing. Most of what she remembered was being high. She remembered barely been able to open her eyes most days, or remember her own name. She didn’t know at which points she’d been out and about. She only remembered a few moments. It was hard to make out the memories. It wasn’t like she really needed personal memory footage of being drugged out of her mind. Kalina had been pretty crafty in sneaking out of the estate. She had been watching carefully, learning guard shifts and such. The new clarity in her mind as the drugs wore away made learning and watching so much easier. It had allowed her to get out. The first spot she headed was to the bar, where she’d gotten pretty drunk. She didn’t remember a lot, a semi-familiar face and then a heated situation. When she woke up, she felt a headache forming and slight nausea turning in her stomach. A voice was what had stirred her and she realized it was the male from the night before. “Kalina and what are you talking about?” She grumbled, looking over at the other bed. She knew a roommate was to be expected but being roommates kind of put a kink in creating a clean break. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Kalina was adjusting to the very new world that was Royal Pains. It was a lot to say the least. It’d been a good few years since she’d even been invited and involved in one of the royal balls or galas. Honestly, she was certain that most people hadn’t missed her. She personally never thought she’d fit in with the other royals. She never thought it was a match. But she supposed it was better than the other option, the hospital that was. And going back to school didn’t feel like a good idea either. Especially after what had happened to her. She could still feel the ache of where the bullet hit her. While surgery had been successful at closing and she’d healed mostly, there was still a lot of internal damage. The blonde was trying to get a feel for the campus, which she still had yet to fully explore when she spotted a brunette woman throw a jacket into a trash bin. “The jacket must have done something greatly offensive,” she said with a slight chuckle.

⇋ Name; Kalina Amelia Hanna Marek. (Born Isobela Nikola Nadia Marek).
⇋ Age; 21.
⇋ Birthday; September, 15th..
⇋ Astral Sign; Virgo.
⇋ Nicknames; Kali.
⇋ Sexuality; Pansexual.
⇋ Eye Color; Blue.
⇋ Hair Color; BBlonde..
⇋ Height; 5’0 ft.
⇋ Identifying Marks; Deep scar on her forearm and shoulder, as well as a bullet wound scar on her upper chest.
⇋ Occupation; Princess.
⇋ Nationality; Polish.
⇋ Marital Status; Single.
⇋ Faceclaim; Sabrina Carpenter.
— Personality; Kalina isn’t rough and tough, but she’s not the heart on her sleeve type either. She likes to keep it someone reserved, but is generally a rather friendly person. She holds a lot back, many of her secrets, true emotions and feelings, but often puts on a face of outwards being rather laidback. She’s rather charming and gets along well with most. Holding back most of who she is often grants her the ability to also morph into the more subtle factors of what others decide that they want with her. It’s all part in portion with the fact she doesn’t truly believe that she can be loved as she is. The rejection from her parents have led her from hiding most true parts of personality, scared people will turn her away for them. Because of her fear of rejection, she often ends up being something of her people pleaser and will often put up with a lot in order to keep people happy. Kalina missed out on a great deal of familial affection, and because of this, she seeks for love through other mediums. Often through meaningless one night stands with strangers who she doesn’t really know. It’s a bad habit of hers. Kalina is a compassionate soul, and does like to take care of people. She’s very sensitive to the feelings of others and can often pick up on small things some people can’t.
— Biography; The Marek’s were always a family of self-importance. They held themselves to a high standard and prided themselves on being the possessors of the throne for so many years. They were the rulers, and they would remain that way for the rest of their lives. They were perfectionists about it really. It didn’t just cause discourse with the rest of the world. With other rulers, potential suitors and allies. But it caused issues with the Marek family itself. Siblings would compete and throw themselves at each other’s throats to gain the throne. Their parents would only choose to endorse the one who was most qualified, who’d put in the most efforts. Unlike most royals, they did not choose their eldest son and their eldest daughter, but the one who showed most promise. It wasn’t uncommon for Marek siblings to argue. It was more rare than anything for them to actually be getting along. Jakob and Antoni were poisoned by this just as much as any Marek sibling. They duked it out for several years for their parents endorsement as the male heir to be put up for election. It was extremely promising, given that the Slyvinksy’s male heir wasn’t anything to scoff at. Tooth and nail, with snipes and jabs and sometimes physical blows, Jakob and Antoni would fight. Unlike their sister who never actually had to, given she was the only female. It was shortly before the election when their sister committed suicide. It was then Antoni decided that he was going to do better, to try and do better. He vowed to stop fighting Jakob and cherish his brother. He would end their feud. This is what made their parents choose him to endorse. And sure enough, with his promising resume and tact for politics, he got elected as their King. He got married. Little did he know that in Jakob’s heart, the feud was still ongoing and he was determined to win. Right under Antoni’s nose, despite having his own wife, Jakob slept with Antoni’s wife and got her pregnant. The woman was suddenly far more scared so she covered the affair quickly by saying her child was Antoni’s. His experience with his sister caving to the pressure of royal life meant he didn’t let any of those royal curses near his daughter. Instead he kept the paparazzi from her as much as possible, limited staff in contact with her. Kalina, born Isobela, was kept away from most people but her parents, uncle and aunt. Things were good for her. Her parents doted on her, her father completely unknowing of the truth of her lineage, and her mother just happy to have a child. She was spoiled, but most importantly loved. She was one of the lucky royals who knew the love of her parents. However, when she was four tragedy struck. Most would say it was up there with the suicide of Antoni’s and Jakob’s sister’s suicide. The palace was invaded by assassins in the night. They were bloodthirsty, killing most maids and guards in their wake. But their main targets were the royal family. The King, his wife. Though they’d been given special orders by those who’d sent them not to hurt Isobela. Because, while the feud burned in Jakob’s heart, with his power hungry wife cooing in his ear they plotted to have his brother killed so the family power would default to him. But there was one line he couldn’t cross. Jakob knew that Isobela was his, and he couldn’t bring himself to kill her. So he devised another plan. He had her injured enough so that the blood patterns would make it appear as if she had in fact died. And then he brought her quietly to his home. Most of those who were around her were killed in the attack, others were bribed. A month later, Isobela was living with Jakob - who had been crowned King -, now named Kalina. She was confused a lot, and often shouted for her mother and father. And soon the press statement was released. Jakob guiltily admitted to having an affair on the camera with a common woman. He begged for the forgiveness of his Kingdom and wife. But was now faced with the fact that his former lover had died and had left him behind a child he hadn’t known he had. He convinced them all that Kalina was his daughter and that he was going to do the noble thing and raise her while paying penance for his unfaithfulness. Kalina slowly forgot the memories of those who had raised her. And life with this man became the new normal. She came to know Jakob and his wife as her father and mother. To her, her father was the best to her. He was harsh with Alexa and Lena, their newer addition, but he would always take time to quietly dote on her. He would bring her gifts from his trips, get her new dresses. His wife however didn’t show any love towards the daughter she had adopted. Kalina was ignored by her mother for the most part. The woman was cold most of the time, without emotion. Sure, she was still bossy, still enforced that she couldn’t let down the Marek name, but she refused to even let her husband acknowledge her as a true potential heir to the throne. Old time royal views haunted her and spite that Kalina was alive at all. Kalina craved love from her mother, or even love from her father that could be more than a secret from his wife. She felt as if she was just a shame. She may have had bloodright to the throne, but she was treated as awfully as if she was a bastard in the older days. Kalina tried to keep her head down and stay rather lowkey. At the end of the day, she just needed to get away from her family, so when her mother suggested she attend a boarding school in Switzerland she jumped on the opportunity. She gradually distanced herself from the royal world. While it was still upper class members of society, at least she wasn’t judged so harshly there. Eventually, she graduated and moved onto a college campus. It was in her second year attending college that she stopped getting invited to galas and events. It was like not only had her mother given up on her, which she knew had happened a long time ago, but her father too. She felt like she was being left out on purpose, abandoned. So she started to act out, seeking love in others. Often this led to one night stands with no real love or romance involved at all. Sometimes, the men and women she found herself with were find with it. Others were looking for more. Most overall took her rejection pretty easily. But there was one man who swore up and down he was in love with her and tried to be with her. He was bullied on campus often, and she was the first one to really show any interest. Of course it was all superficial, she was just looking for someone to fill the emptiness inside of herself. Almost a few months later, after dodging all of his text messages, it was announced on the PA system that there was a shooter in the building. Lockdown procedures were fallen into, but it didn’t stop the shooter from ripping through the school. Many students were injured and killed that day. And finally, he came to Kalina’s classroom. He took off his mask and revealed himself to be the man she’d slept with who’d become obsessed with her. She was forced to watch him kill almost four members of her class when he finally started addressing her. He told her that he didn’t know why she couldn’t love him back. She tried to convince him that it wasn’t anything to do with him. And finally she tried to convince him she did love him, if only it meant the stop of the carnage. She managed to almost nearly talk him down, but at the last moment he told her that he knew she was lying and shot her before ending his own life. As she bled on the floor, she remembered her arm being cut as a little girl, and a man taking her away. Kalina was surprised when she woke up in the hospital if she was honest. She hadn’t expected to survive. She believed she had endured her last moments of life. But, sure enough she awoke. Only to find an onslaught of memories coming to her the more days she spent in the hospital. Finally, the dam broke and she realized what had happened. She confronted her mother and father, telling her she remembered everything. Her father surprisingly seemed happy to unload his guilty conscience, but her mother was furious. She said it was too dangerous. They had to end her. Her father refused, and finally they institutionalized her instead. She spent most of her time out of it, filled with things that were so strong she could barely open her eyes. It lasted for a few months, this new hell. Honestly, she was barely conscious. She lost almost twenty pounds, slowly starting to fade away as she could barely function. Finally, her father decided enough was enough. He wanted to rescue her, get her out of there. So he bribed the doctors to say she was still there. And for a long time she was put up in a hotel room, forced to undergo withdrawals from the drugs she’d been given, but finally he brought her to the Royal Pains Estate on the condition she wouldn’t say anything. She agreed to avoid returning to the drugged state. Anything to keep from going back there. And so she went. She just relied on the fact her father had somehow taken care of Lena and Alexa.
✗ Secret; Kalina was originally born Isobela, the legal daughter of King Antoni and his wife. She was kidnapped by her biological father after he had her legal father killed.
