Hey y’all! I’m Peej, I’m finally twenty-one years old and I’m EST (New York babey!). One fun fact about me is that I work (worked? thanks covid-19) at an aquarium where I’ve gone cage diving with our sharks. I’m a lot less interesting that my son here so enough about me and now onto him:)
TW: cancer, death, guns, animal attack
Sidney Cooper was born to a single mother in Springhill, New Jersey. His father left after finding out he got her pregnant and never came back, but his mother figured it was for the best anyway. She did her best raising him on her own, even managing to graduate from the local college while he was a toddler. She never left him wanting anything, always making sure that her only child was as happy as he could be.
He was 17 when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and she passed shortly after his 18th birthday. It was a shock, going from a happy family of two to just by himself. So instead of going to college like they had planned, he sold his car and purchased an old RV, doing his best to renovate it on his own. Once the job was done, he said goodbye to Jersey and traveled across the country to Oregon.
Oregon was gorgeous and everything he had hoped for. It wasn’t hard to make friends with the locals and one was kind enough to let him keep his RV on their property. The older man became like the father Coop never had, teaching him how to live off the land in harmony with the nature surrounding them. It was almost a dream come true. The only thing that he was longing for was his mother.
The man, a retired forest ranger, also helped him pass the ranger exam where he found himself another family. There were more early mornings that he would’ve liked but he enjoyed being in the woods and learning as much as he could. It was all going well until one night, Coop decided to go for a walk by himself. Without a weapon, he was attacked by a mountain lion and almost didn’t survive. Luckily his friend who let him stay on his land heard his screams and came along just in time to shoot the cougar and save his life.
It wasn’t much of a life at first, lying in the ICU unsure if he’d even make it. But his fellow rangers were always coming by and raising his spirits, making jokes and sneaking him his favorite fast foods. They made it all bearable. It was months before Coop was finally released for the hospital and all he wanted to do was get back to his job but every time he’d step into the woods he was reminded of that night. Even his coworkers noticed and the old man advised him to take a break. So he did.
Coop got back into his RV and made his way cross country once again, headed for his hometown. It wasn’t exactly what he wanted but it was better than hearing the screams from the mountain lion in his head every night while he lied in bed. It was a month ago that he arrived back in Springhill and though he could probably get himself an apartment, he’s still unwilling to part with his mobile home. Instead, he’s trying to put the pieces of himself back together again, working on himself with the help of the shelter animals.
Okay so that was a mess, just like Coop and I, and I’m sure I’ll add in more in the future but for now I’m going to throw out some wanted connections!
- childhood friends? someone he knew from his school days
- a best friend? someone he knew from springhill that he kept in touch with after his moved away
- coworkers! someone who loves animals as much as he does
- a mentor? someone older who takes him under their wing; he’s still lonely
- a cousin maybe? a family member that hasn’t heard from him since he left?
- all of the connections!! literally all of them!
Sorry, I know this all got pretty long! But give this a like and I’ll slide into your dms to plot:)
