Star Light, Star Bright
One of the more spectacular sights from the Nullarbor is the sky at night. With no light pollution for hundreds of miles we were treated to a display of stars seen only by those who dare to venture out of civilization. We felt like we were seeing the night sky for the first time, the milky way was so clearly visible, we were even treated to a few shooting stars. A truly magical experience.

Let’s go West, I mean North, No West, The Nullarbor Plain
With two months before we are due to house sit on the East Coast we have thrown caution to the wind and are joining our new buddies on their trip across the Nullarbor Plain. Stretching over 1300km the ‘Treeless Plain’ (Nullarbor meaning no trees in Aboriginal) is a wide expanse of uninhabited, arid land that runs along the coast and stretches north into the deserts of Central Western Australia. We have stocked up with water, baked beans and camp fire sausages are a ready to hit the road! Internet is supposedly none existent on the plain so see you on the other side!

Crab Fishing on the Longest Jetty, Port Germein
Having become good friends with our neighbours while camping on the outskirts of Melbourne they suggested we meet up for a spot of crab fishing at a little town north of Adelaide. Our paths were due to cross there as we made our way round the coast and they came inland and headed out west. The town’s main attraction is the 1.5km long wooden jetty that paves the way for hungry crab fisherman to lay their nets. Heading out onto the jetty at high tide the next morning, armed with six crab pots, I admit I was a little sceptical at the potential enjoyment factor one could achieve by sitting still and waiting for your catch to take the bait. Oh how wrong I was, just under and hour into proceedings we caught our first crab of the day. Tempted into our pot by the alluring smell of dead bait fish ….. mmmmmm …… the unsuspecting Blue Swimmer Crab sat down to his buffet lunch unaware of the price of his free meal.  A few hours later we had a catch of sixteen sizeable crabs, a sizeable seafood feast for the four of us.

Views, Vineyards and Vino in the Barossa Valley
Following the coast road we headed north through Adelaide and made a bee line for the Barossa Valley. Having heard some rather wonderful things about the wine region we thought it best to stop off and sample some of the delights on offer. Our trip was quite a success, we tried many of the wines produced in the local area and had a tasty lunch on the banks of a turquoise blue, terrapin filled lake. The girls back at home will find much hilarity in the fact that we visited the Jacobs Creek Vineyard (much of their produce was consumed during our sixth form and early university years!) Our top spot in Barossa is Maggie Beers Farm shop, offering a picnic lunch and a host of yummy produce to gobble down while enjoying some of their vino.
