A fisherman passes up fresh fish to a customer on the pier.
In Sai Kung, Hong Kong, numerous boats moored at the pier side wait for custom. Fresh sea creatures and caught, killed, prepared and sold directly from their boats.
Sai Kung is well-known for its seafood. For those not wishing to do the cooking themselves the promenade is lined with countless seafood restaurants, their outside lights casting a glow over the boats bobbing in the harbour at dusk.

Family time at the Temple of Heaven, Beijing.
Two children play as their mother watches on taking photos on her phone. Away from the huge crowds I was taking a moment to admire the place when I spotted their games.
This was taken on my first afternoon in Beijing. The thing I noticed the most was the colour of the sky and the smog that filled the air around me. Living in Hong Kong I’ve been missing the seasonal changes in light that I grew up with in the UK. An autumn trip north left me excited for that low, golden glowing light but the smog enhanced the effect and left everything in an unexpected haze.
Bad for the lungs, great for the camera.

As I was wandering around Insadong, the arts and crafts hub of Seoul I took a turn down a side street and found myself on the busy Ujeongguk-ro. On the opposite side of the busy main road a colourful entrance, out of place in the urban sprawl, offered a glimpse of the bright and welcoming Jogyesa Temple.
At the gates, friendly ladies offered hot tea which was welcome in the chilly late October weather. Standing amongst the entrance pillars were these impressive stainless steel Heaven Kings. They looks so fine and light, they could almost have been made out of paper.

A peachy keen view of Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, South Korea.
I had seen pictures of this Zaha Hadid design at an exhibition in Hong Kong but nothing prepares you for the reality. This huge, yet elegant building resembles a spaceship whilst its interior includes clean workshop and exhibition spaces and a trendy cafe.
Easily accessible from the central tourist and shopping district of Seoul by subway it’s well worth an explore. Lines 1 and 4 take you to Dongdaemun. The streets nearby have an excellent selection of food stalls and shops galore!
Top tip: come and check it out after dark. The curved structure is lit up beautifully.

These novice monks were as excited by Angkor Wat as I was!
As their distinctive orange robes were spotted by eager tourists, cameras came out and turned in their direction. Many of the monks took out their smart phones and started snapping back.
Wandering around the temple complex in the early morning was peaceful and pleasant. The morning light made an already incredible place so much more enchanting!

In amongst the heavily decorated pillars of the Bayon Temple I spotted this couple in traditional Cambodian dress. They were being photographed by professionals with all the gear but were giggling nervously the entire time. I cheekily found a hiding place and started snapping.
The bas-reliefs in this temple are awe-inspiring but these two added a welcome splash of colour to the surroundings!

Sunrise casts a colourful glow in the skies over Angkor Wat.
Arriving and setting up for sunrise was a unique experience. After travelling through the chilly, dark streets of Siem Reap by tuk-tuk I arrived at the lagoon surrounding this vast temple complex in the pitch black. All around there was excited chatter and the tooting of horns.
I joined the torch lit procession crossing the pontoon over the water. It was one of my most surreal experiences to date. Trying to walk in a straight line seemed challenging for everyone as the walkway bobbed and splashed against the dark pool beneath.
Having negotiated the dark stone steps the crowds made their way to the edge of the two pools facing the main temple. I opted for the pool on the right as the left hand side was already extremely busy. As you can see from the photo I managed to get a pretty good view!
There was a great atmosphere as we all waited for the skies to lighten. I made sure I took my photos but the best thing I did was put my camera down and take some time to appreciate the amazing experience that I had waited 20 years to have.

A favourite photo from my recent trip to Cambodia. I stumbled across these beautifully preserved bas-reliefs at the top of the temple at Angkor Wat.
The early morning sunshine casts a magical glow across these Devatas, spirits guarding this most sacred of places.
