Guys help the Ark Survival Evolved hyperfixation is grabbing me and dragging me into brainrot again. I've been up since 4am I'm so sleepy
Anyway my usual reaction when a piece of media starts dropping biblical references is "🙄 cmon can we do something original for once" (MK randomly including entire Bible verses in Tribunal lore remains one of my biggest complaints with the actual content of is writing like dude piss offffff) but with Ark I mean... The game is called Ark. It's really funny to me that it actually took me until Extinction's ending to realize "oh wait they mean like... The Ark. The. Boat" but in my defense I'm atheist and the one time I tried actually reading the Bible I got a migraine so bad I physically couldn't read after half a page for no reason
Even FUNNIER is that it took me until Rockwell started genuinely quoting the Bible to realize that the DLC(s) named Genesis were... Drumroll please... Bible references. Look I'm stupid ok. But also buddy you've broken like almost all of the Ten Commandments you're going to turbo hell what do you mean you're God now

Extremely sick final boss design though me when I'm simultaneously crucified and sitting on a throne of my own flesh unfortunately the power of Nuclear Bomb wins. can't wait to see what this freak looks like in Ark Ascended
Biblically accurate angel flesh flower thing jumpscare (featuring my dying Xbox One trying to run Gen 2)

Me with Abnur Tharn. It gets funnier every time they reference him. That one spy in Markarth. Everything about Blackwood, especially the war crimes torture dungeon with A QUOTE FROM HIM AS THE LOADING SCREEN HELP??? High Isle doing the exact thing he was trying to do at the start of Season of the Dragon. The entire segment before the main show of the ESO Direct where they talked about fan favorite characters and they did a whole thing about him and then one of the other two characters they featured being confirmed as returning is driving me insane STOP HAUNTING THE NARRATIVE BRO GET BACK HERE
guy who got baited with the idea of a darien return in southern elsweyr, western skyrim, AND blackwood watching esoblr talking about the idea of darien returning again in solstice:

Trying to write dialogue for my personal fan project is hell because WHY DOES TIBER SEPTIM TALK LIKE THIS. I HATE HIM. He talks like literally just some guy
"Mummy told me not to take gifts from strangers 🥺🥺🥺" is a super funny dialogue option given my Nerevarine is the son of my Agent of Daggerfall. Like this man is not a stranger and your mom HATES him
"Change is never pretty" says the guy who took a god killing mech to obliterate multiple cities and also his own innocent subjects. You didn't have to do that, sir. You really didn't have to.
#every time i remember this exists in Morrowind i engage in drywall eating behavior because its so funny. likw what#tiber septim WHEN I CATCH YOU#the elder scrolls#tes#tiber septim#morrowind

Yeah, fair, I get that there's undeniably biases within the POV characters that give us the information. If I had the time or energy I could probably write a lot more eloquently what I mean but I think we do agree on the fundamentals LOL. Though one of the funniest things is that you theoretically Do meet Tiber Septim for a conversation in Morrowind and he talks like a frat boy and starts rambling about how maybe it's time for the Septim dynasty to end (my brother in Akatosh you built the dynasty) and you can tell him "my mommy told me not to talk to strangers" (or something akin to that)
Something I wanted to go into but didn't because I hadn't really fully woken up yet is that I do know that the 36 Lessons is heavily steeped in the Bible and that's actually one of my largest criticisms of it (probably the only criticism of the actual content and existence of it). It feels like injecting outside influences into TES instead of coming up with more original stuff but maybe that's just me because I know people who Like that there's that influence. I also think it's funny that no one can say "reach heaven by violence" without getting swarmed by Morrowind fans
I do think though, on the point of muddying the water of MK criticism, that we can criticize him for multiple things. My post wasn't about how he's weird about trans people, but were that to be the topic of discussion then I would absolutely criticize him for it, and I have indeed done that in the comments. I don't think criticizing his writing/lore/discussion choices particularly overshadows that, it's just a different topic of discussion. I think it is both on him for continuing to throw things out there when he had such a large and almost rabid fanbase, and it's also on the people who parrot that information without critical thought to maybe use a braincell every once in a while.
My personal response to "ESO isn't canon it's not real" is "yes it is and you can't change that, get used to it" I'm so tired of 10+ years of the same tired argument like besties we've been over this. Yes it's canon. It's been confirmed so many times. Fighting for my life
If I see one more person credit Elder Scrolls's worldbuilding to Kirkbride I'm going to crash out. Everyone who says that should be forced to play Arena and Daggerfall for a mandatory 10+ hours and see that most of the series's major worldbuilding happened before MK was even a writer or concept artist. And even then MK didn't actually do much of the writing for Morrowind, either, he wrote a few lorebooks that make no sense and actively conflict with other parts of the game (ex. The Arcturian Heresy saying Zurin is not the Underking when the GAME'S OPENING CUTSCENE accredits a quote to "Zurin Arctus, THE UNDERKING"). And yes this could theoretically be in-game lying but then so is 36 Lessons of Vivec which is the other major thing Kirkbride wrote, which would mean that basically all of MK's major canonical contributions to TES lore would be lies lmfao
Put some damn respect on TED PETERSON'S name, he's the real fundamental TES worldbuilding writer all the way from the beginning with Arena, through Oblivion. History of the Empire, On Oblivion, 2920, Feyfolken, The Warp in the West, and so many more fundamental lorebooks in the series written by HIM. There are, fairly obviously, many MANY other writers for this series. It's been going on for decades. But since everyone seems determined to attribute all of TES lore to one guy, at least pick the correct one

My beef with MK on the subject of that specific blog post is also that it was made. After Skyrim released. Which means he would know damn well how much the fandom worshipped him and he was Still posting stuff people would absolutely take as truth even if he himself didn't 100% mean it to be true (but personally in the context of that post even if he is answering the question of "so Tiber Septim of legend is a conglomerate of people including the real guy" as "the real Tiber Septim was nothing like how he was described in the legends" then that still. Doesn't match the lore because again there is a guy in Daggerfall that knew him personally and was his second in command. And he sends you a letter describing that Tiber Septim was a war criminal who started killing his own people and Don't Fucking Use The Numidium For War Crimes Please. Barenziah's lore also paints Tiber Septim as a shitty awful person, so that's two separate sources that agree. You can't go all "uhhh maybe he's nothing like the legends" when there are characters you can talk to that were alive back then and knew him and never met each other but still paint the guy in the same light of "he's a garbage person." Those legends are still alive, MK. The Agent is literally Zurin Arctus's penpal)
Trust me I have a bunch of other personal issues with MK I just didn't mention it here because it wasn't relevant to the discussion. His Mephala is actually one I mentioned in the comments of this post LMAO. And the weird sexualization of Vivec's encounter with Molag Bal. The fact that MK's writing feels like using word soup to disguise the fact that he's hardly saying anything of substance most of the time makes me want to tear my hair out whenever I have to try to piece together what he's actually saying for my lore research. And the out of lore stuff like sending rape threats to a trans guy people like to forget about that but oh boy I sure haven't!
