SCULPTURE EVALUATION
During sculpture I got to try so many new things i hadn’t done before. Learning methods in more in-depth ways and learning how to quick think a project in a day.
I think a lot of my work was successful in this rotation, i was quick to come up with ideas which is new for me. I enjoyed the day projects as you could try so many new things. Though again my time management was awful so didn’t allow me to properly finish anything. Though i feel a lot of my ideas are strong foundations to lead me to full blown projects and pieces of art. For example my half day woodwork idea is what i think I’m going to pursue in my FMP.
Though i think if my attendance was better i could’ve finished my pieces. I also think i should’ve tried working on a larger scale to gain more experience and be a bit more ‘daring’ with my experimentation.

(4 WEEK SCULPTURE) Carving and chiselling. Another day project again unfinished. The process. It was a long process to get a small result but i liked it. I moulded a sculpture bowl and manipulated it with some wood planks to make it that squished at the top shape. I began chiselling making holes inspired by an artist if seen and instead of filling it with moss i was planning to fill them with textile textures and colour to fit with my theme (more on theme in sketchbook) Because of the strange shape it was tricky to clamp the plaster to be able to resist the chiseling and not fall over.

(4 WEEK SCULPTURE) Our task was to create a textured block. But I didn’t just want to make a cube after looking at artists I just moulded the clay into a random shape that could look interesting with the earthy textures I had happened to create and love with the end of a pen. I used lots of clay and a clay and water paste to seal all gaps. I then had to build a structure to support the clay so it wouldn’t drop off with the weight of the plaster but still manage to reach all areas of the mould. As you can tell i had to improvise as we did not have this device invented yet. To avoid the weight breaking the mould i did the sculpture in 2 halves. Poured the first so the legs could harden and support the rest of the block while it was drying. Unfortunately when I peeled the clay off after it the texture was too intricate so a lot of it broke and snapped off. Also the two protruding parts broke off. Also due to the intricacy of the texture the clay was really hard to wash off so it stayed a sort of brown colour but i think it actually ended up looking quite cool. Like a fossil.

4 WEEK VIS COM
In week one before the christmas holiday, a lot of the work was experimenting and understanding. I learned a few more advanced photoshop techniques and new programmes to edit animations which I can see coming very much in handy in future. Knowing I can use the computer for these things opened up my mind a bit more to be a bit more adventerous with my ideas and think a bit bigger than just pen and paper. I got to try multiple new things that i had t done before like lino cutting which i have grwon to really enjoy and has also opened me up to so many other ideas. But like always, my struggle at the beginning of this rotation after week one, post the christmas holidays, was coming up with an idea that I feel I could continue and develop for another 3 weeks. I had lost ‘precious’ time by being a bit weak and indecisive, which I have learned over this course I really need to get a hang of my time management. The idea that I settled on I was really enthusiatic about and was and still am confident its an interesting idea. Its was an idea that had been floating about in my head for a while but only pushed gorward when it was goven the brief of making a piece of sequence art. My illustrations of friends, work well with my development and pattern to make quite an effective looking piece. Though next time I want to get a bit more indepth with my exploration and experimentation of materials and techniques. This will be giving my self a wider range of choice to really get what I want as I feel I could still develop this piece further into something else or do it better. For example in life drawing we have been doing a lot of drape work, instead of focusing on the figure i couldve looked more at the materials on the figure to aid my pattern drawing and creating. In a way though, I am glad I am still enthusastic to make more out of this lroject as its good I still see litential in it and am pleased with an idea of my own-which is’nt very common. If I had longer on this project I refine my drawings, and maybe make it into a stop motion or 3D piece of art. I would also get more lessons on photoshop as a lot of my errors and lack of knowledge to do with images side have led to problems with pixelation and difficulty editing.

(4 WEEK VIS COM) ISNT THE FINISHED THING- I still want to to some development obviously i would’ve preferred this to be a lot more slick. It looks a bit messy but with help from someone who knows photoshop i can majorly tidy it up and make it look more together. Sardines

(4 WEEK VIS COM) What inspired what. Carla Fuentes- the exaggerated features and the dashes to mark facial lines. On my first 2 drawings didn’t look right as it looked like a tiny moustache. So on my 3rd character i changed back to just normal lines Bijou karman- the use of a realistic but still characterised portraits. The character amongst objects interesting. Laura Callaghan- the use of flat pattern on 3D

(4 WEEK VIS COM) People with patterns inspiration. Some beautiful illustrations I found on Pinterest. I love the layering and clashing of patterns and the overwhelming amount of them. It gives it a fun looking element that I wanted in my own work to go with my theme. The simple colourless faces contrast with this making them stand out- it works so well!
I actually borrowed one of the patterns I couldn’t get enough of, maybe can notice it in my final piece.

(4 WEEK VIS COM) Instagram inspo-Names of artist on pictures Some artists I’ve come across promoting themselves on instagram. Elements of each of their styles if used in my own work. ‘Pulpbrother’ although a lot of his themes sensual and silly, i love the comedy writing and the style of illustration he has

(4 WEEK VIS COM) Self researched Sequence art. Some leading to illustrative styles and type of sequence. I like the simplicity of all the styles. Booth especially as her line work is also quite rough which would work with my theme as its a child’s game- childish looking drawings.
