callie laughed along with charlotte, but then abruptly stopped when she realized she might not be joking. ‘ wait, you really did that ?! ’, the blonde questioned. her hands played around with the menu, flipping through it even though her eyes were on the other. ‘ listen… i haven’t had the attention span to even sit through a 20 minute show. i can’t imagine watching a movie right now. ’, callie admitted, shrugging her shoulders. she immediately started nodding her head. ‘ we’re good ! both of our parents know, which is old news. nothing really new there. i’m thinking bout pulling a prank on him though. if you give me the go, i’ll do it, and you have to help ! ’

‘ what ? it was only a few times ! plus it was the really cheap stuff too, i just didn’t want to buy any wine. ’ charlotte reasoned. wine was always the perfect thing when charlotte was watching romantic comedies or proposal videos on youtube which seemed to be a lot. charlotte skimmed through the menu before landing on something she thought would be good. ‘ oh my god but you have to see this one, it’s so good. ’ charlotte insisted. ‘ i’ll even rewatch it with you. ’ she let out a smile when she heard that callie and roman were good -- she had always hoped they would get together eventually. ‘ ooh, what kind of prank ? doesn’t matter; i’m in. ’

at this point it was pretty much tradition. if they could, every month the two cousins would basically go on a date and this month it was callie’s turn to plan. though the other times have been either a complete fail or just overall bad, her skills have improved ever since her and roman entered a relationship. ‘ ok i know it’s nothing too fancy, but i got us a spot in the best booth. ’, callie explained herself just as they sat down. ‘ and, i got kieran to make us something off the menu ! ’, she added with an excited clap.

callie scrunced her nose as she got comfortable in her seat. ‘ hey… watch it. ’, she joked. ‘ kieran can be fun too. ’, callie added, pointing a finger at charlotte. ‘ how are you, though ? ’ , she asked, picking at the utensils placed in front of her. ‘ anything new in your life ? ’

‘ he can be fun but he also always makes me put back the wine that i try to sneak out so he’s not that fun. ’ charlotte let out a giggle before taking a sip of her water. ‘ mmm...i’m good ! but nothing new in my life other than i just watched that netflix romcom the half of it & it was perfect. what about you -- how’re you & roman ? ’

charlotte always looked forward to the time that she spent with callie. despite the fact that they seemed to spend a lot of time together, she never really got tired of her cousin. she walked into big bear bistro, excited to see her cousin, and also excited to be at her place of work as a customer for once, instead of having to serve others. ‘ ugh, this booth really is the best ! ’ charlotte gushed, sitting down. ‘ oooh, as annoying as he is, he makes some really good food, doesn’t he ? ’

callie did this thing where if she focused for 5 minutes, she gave herself a 10 minute break. instead, that 10 minute break turned into 20 minutes of callie simply day dreaming. her little trance was broken when she heard a sigh. it caused the blonde to look around and that was when she noticed charlotte. she quickly made her way over, taking a seat next to her. ‘ you’re asking the wrong person. i haven’t made it past question 4. ’, callie admitted before letting out a laugh. ‘ the plan is to get the answers right before class. know anyone who would have it done ? ’

charlotte hated how complicated all of these questions were, they were making her brain hurt. as much as she loved studying at hogwarts, sometimes she wondered if she were better suited for the type of schools that muggles go to. but then again, those would also probably confuse the small blonde. she laughed at callie’s remark as well, figuring that they didn’t get the genius gene in the family. ‘ hm...rumor’s a ravenclaw so she probably knows all of the answers, right ? ’

“this whole classroom is gonna smell so gross.” victoria said, grimacing as she dropped the horseradish in carefully. “for something that looks so nice when it’s done, this is nasty as hell to make.” she peered into the cauldron for a moment, then squinted back down at her book, reading silently. she rolled her eyes as charlotte spoke. “chill out. i’m not gonna hex you.”

“well at least we’ll be lucky by the end of this class,” charlotte said, trying to lighten the mood. she often felt that victoria was needlessly negative which contrasted with her happy go lucky attitude, and that was probably one of the reasons they had never gotten along. “okay, sorry.” charlotte felt a little bad for implying that victoria would hex her, but she was still secretly worried about it. “it says the next thing we need is a squill bulb. do you see one in the box we were given?”

charlotte was excited to get to spend some more time with ryder. she had always had a great relationship with his sister, aylie, and they had always gotten along really well in group settings. the hufflepuff had never really spent that much time alone with him, but the idea of sitting by the lake and eating snacks appealed to her. she remembered her first time at the lake, during the very first time they arrived at hogwarts just short six years ago. as soon as she arrived at the lake, she spotted ryder and made her way towards him. “did you bring any good snacks?” the blonde asked as she sat down next to him.

charlotte knew something was up when she got an owl from aylie, asking her to come over to her dorm. the two were close, but they usually met at places like the dining hall or library. and aylie made it seem urgent. so charlotte rushed through all of the moving stairs and passwords in order to get to aylie’s dorm room as soon as she possibly could. she knew that her friend needed her. she knocked on the door softly before coming in and sitting on the bed next to aylie. “hey,” she said in a soft voice. “what’s going on?”

charlotte was studying in the library with her study group, as per usual. she looked at her notes, flowers and hearts doodled on the margins of the pages. by the time they were done going over their notes, charlotte realized that she still had homework to do for another class. she told her study group that she had to go do her homework for transfiguration. she got up to go to the section that had the book that she needed, she hesitantly went towards it as it was near the restricted section; the idea of doing anything remotely against the rules made charlotte nervous. she glanced towards the restricted section while she was getting the book from the shelf and noticed cleo coming out of it. as the slytherin passed by charlotte, the blonde couldn’t help but utter the words, “you know, you’re really not supposed to be in there.”

victoria turned her attention from the box of ingredients back to her textbook, leaning closer and squinting. she sighed quietly, running her fingers under the words and mouthing them to herself slowly as she did so - all her classes would be so much easier if she could actually properly read her textbooks. but the letters and the numbers tended to get jumbled together, and she hated it. she looked up at charlotte’s question, frowning. “does this look like i’m not doing anything?” she asked, taking the horseradish from the blonde. “what do we do, just toss the whole thing in like the egg?” she wrinkled her nose as looked at her book again. “i hope this shit tastes better than it’s gonna smell once we add this.”

charlotte tapped her quill as she waited for victoria to finish reading. she normally wouldn’t have found this annoying if it were anyone else. but something about victoria always managed to get under her skin. maybe it was because they had been hostile towards one another ever since they had met, or as hostile as charlotte could be towards another person. charlotte shrank a little when she heard victoria’s response - it seemed that she had annoyed the other even more, which was why she tried to phrase her question so politely. she sighed and replied, “sorry.” under her breath she muttered, please don’t hex me. “yeah, we put the whole thing in and then we heat them together, i guess.”

“fingers crossed.” she hummed, squinting at the board. “i’m no good at science shit and that’s all this really is.” she flipped her textbook open and found the right page, reading over the directions slowly and pressing her lips together. glancing up as charlotte dropped the egg into the cauldron, she lifted a brow. “are we supposed to break it or something?” she asked, standing on the bar of her stool to peer into the cauldron. she looked into the box, biting the inside of her lip. “what’s next?”

charlotte glanced over at victoria, trying to get a read on the other female. it was so hard for the blonde to know if the other one really hated her as much as she thought she did. they had always had animosity towards each other, and this certainly didn’t help things. she sighed, thinking that this would be sort of class where she would do all of the work while the other just leeched off of her. because despite not being good at potions, she still tried. “i don’t think so because it says a whole egg,” charlotte replied, in a small voice. peering down at her textbook, she grabbed the horseradish from the box and said, “we have to add this horseradish and then heat it.” she grimaced at the pungent smell. “hey, do you uh...do you mind maybe trying to do a little bit more? i don’t want this to be the type of thing where i do everything because that doesn’t seem very fair.” charlotte tried to put the request as nicely as she could, but she knew that part of it was the fact that as much as victoria didn’t like her, charlotte wasn’t too fond of the other as well, so that slipped in through her voice.

victoria wasn’t particularly good at potions. it was sort of similar to muggle science classes, and she’d never been good at those at all. and she wasn’t exactly thrilled with the new pairings and seating assignments for the class this year, either. she slipped into the room just before the class started, finding her seat and perching next to the little blonde. “i guess.” she muttered, setting her bag on the floor and putting her chin in her hand. she glanced at charlotte out of the corner of her eye, biting the inside of her lip. whoever’s idea it was to pair a slytherin and a hufflepuff together needed to seriously have their head checked out, but that wasn’t up to her. she peered at the assignment on the board, pressing her lips together.

charlotte had long since given up on trying to friends with victoria. ever since her first year, it seemed like the other had it out for her. the most she could hope for now would be to get through this class together as partners without one of them hexing the other. the blonde’s friendly nature clearly wasn’t vibing well with victoria, evident by her response and general behavior towards charlotte. “i don’t really understand a lot about potions, but hopefully we can just get through this,” charlotte said, in a somewhat chipper voice. she was always the type to try to see the silver lining in a situation, even one like this. she stared at the board as well for a second before grabbing her textbook from her bag. “okay so the board says to make felix felicis so that means the first ingredient is an ashwinder egg.” she found the egg in the box they were given and plopped it in the cauldron, which subsequently sizzled. “is it supposed to do that?” charlotte asked with a wince as she hid her face behind her textbook.

charlotte stared at her homework, frustrated. she was a good student, that was for sure. she always did her homework and tried her best. but she just never understood any of it. she bit her lip as she looked at the questions that seemed to make no sense. she let out a sigh when she noticed her cousin in the common room. charlotte gave her a small smile and waved her over. ‘ hey, what did you get for question 12 ? ’ she asked, looking up from her homework. ‘ this stuff is so hard. ’

charlotte dreaded potion’s class. not only was it one of the classes she had trouble understanding, but this year they decided to do something new. to make partners out of people from differing houses. something about ‘ putting the rivalries behind us and coming together as one ’ which is something charlotte would’ve usually been in favor of. but when she saw who was assigned to be her partner, she grimaced. victoria and her had never gotten along, ever since she was a first year. she wasn’t sure what it was but they were obviously complete opposites and there was something about victoria that charlotte just didn’t get -- why she was so aloof and mean. she sat at the desk for their potions class, tapping her quill to ease her nerves about having to be partnered with her. when victoria entered and sat next to charlotte, charlotte gave a smile, trying to make this as painless as possible. ‘ are you ready? ’ she asked the raven haired girl.
