Final Outcomes...
I am happy with the outcome of my magazine and double page spreads. I feel like it reflects the artwork I chose in the beginning well through the flower aspect, makeup and the use of colour that I tried to convey throughout. Some of the colours that I used in this project are out of my comfort zone and I wouldn’t normally use certain types of colours in my work, however choosing The Kiss has encouraged me to use a variety of colours and I am really happy with the outcome.

I had created several versions of this piece of work as I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go in and what would work best. However I decided to go with the first option in the end as I think less is more in this context, and allows more room for actually viewing the model rather than various edited versions.

Trial and Error...
I struggled at times throughout this project for motivation and how to properly layout whilst looking professional yet pleasant to look at. I had some initial ideas that I had to abandon as they just were not going to work in the way I had wanted them to. For example:
I was attempting to link back to the artwork using a ‘meadow’ theme background however I knew that from early on it wasn’t the right choice and I wouldn’t have been happy with the results as it isn’t very exciting.
I also created an ivy piece in Illustrator that I had hoped to use in my work however I struggled to fit it in anywhere so I decided not to use it.

Font Choice...
For my titling of my work, I knew I wanted to reference back to The Kiss in a subtle way using a bold font. Using Da Font, I decided that Sacred Hertz was the most appropriate font and I thought it fit in well with the strong, emotive titles.

All Pages Complete...

I am really happy with this outcome, I think everything worked out well and I particularly like the titled pages as it links back to my chosen artwork piece. I need to now put my work together as a magazine format using Graphic Burger.

DPS 1 Design...

My thought process for my first DPS was that it would be separate pages of different photographs with a different theme of editing. I decided to use the words ‘Passion’ and ‘Desire’ as I felt it conveyed what The Kiss is all about- fire, freedom, passionate, lustful and desiring.

I really love this design through the simplicity of it. The light yellow background linking back to the idea of gold and the duplicated photograph behind the main photo, with the colour changed to a yellow and opacity reduced. To finish this design off, I want to add some drawing from Illustrator.

Experimenting with backgrounds, Photoshop and Illustrator...
This is a background I created inspired by my research that I did. For the centre piece, I am going to collage my photoshoot and add the words ‘Passion’ and ‘Desire’ to the top and bottom of the white outlined box. I really like the idea of this collage as it represents the style of The Kiss quite well, through the variety of patterns etc. This is something I need to explore further in this collage.

Experimenting with backgrounds...
I decided for this project, a strong background needs to take place so I created my own patterned background using illustrator and photoshop where I produced a tile and then created it into a pattern, where then it repeated itself across A4. However, I don’t like the outcome of this work as I don’t think the background fits well at all. I do however like the effect I created by copying the model on Photoshop and altering the colour balance and the opacity.

Thoughts...
I am really happy with the outcome of my photoshoot, I believe the lighting worked really well and it was incredible to see how stunning the photographs came out with no filters or adjustments. I am now going to progress onto the editing process, experimenting with Photoshop and Illustrator to produce interesting backgrounds etc. I also am interested to see how the flowers would look illustrated. I also am going to experiment with a collage too, potentially to go across a double page.

Photoshoot Plan...
For my photoshoot, I decided to use gold leaf flakes all over the skin and hair to recreate the metallic gold tones in The Kiss. I decided to have my model’s hair scraped back into a low bun as this allows the makeup to be the complete focus. The base makeup I will keep quite simple, allowing the gold flakes to strike the most attention. I am excited for the outcome of this photoshoot and how it progresses further. I am going to dress my model in a sheer floral shirt, which adds to the floral, vegetal patterns. I will also use dried flowers in this photoshoot and will experiment with some fake garlands and flowers too.

Creating the DPS...
I feel it is important to give a ‘story’ behind the work I have created and should be titled relevantly. To create two DPS, it should have that ‘wow factor’ and the title should draw you in. When researching ideas for a title, I went back to my context information that I created and a quotation by Klimt, ‘paradoxical environment... freedom of expression... desire, dreams and mortality’, all consuming love and passion. I think these quotations would work well as a title for my DPS as it’s a direct link back to the artwork I chose.

Finding Inspiration...
I knew that for this project, creating two double page spreads was a tricky part of the project for finding inspiration of layouts- what works effectively, what amount of words are right, am I conveying what I what to display correctly? Looking at magazine layouts such as 1 Granary was useful to gather ideas. I also used a website called behance to look at hypothetical magazine layouts for inspiration. Another magazine I found really visually appealing to look at is Juice which I found using StackMagazine.com
