My Knight Theory

One of the central theories of Deltarune (and Undertale) is loss and abandonment. It's seen through the King's rage at the Lightners, through Jevil's insanity, through Spamton's desire to become a big shot and reclaim his glory, through Tenna's being a child of divorce, through Susie, through practically every part of the game.

I think that's what the Knight is: Loss and abandonment, or specifically, Kris's despair over losing Dess and Asriel.

The Knight bears a massive resemblance to Dess and Asriel. They have antlers and hooves and use a sword that resembles a baseball bat that gets a chip in it. Dess is a Holiday and has a chipped baseball bat. But the Knight also resembles Asriel:

Both are clad in black armor with notable shoulder pads, both use a similar final attack (Hyper Goner and Crystal Nova), and most notably, the Knight's theme, Black Knife, opens identically to one of Asriel's themes, Burn in Despair!.

And it's not that much of a stretch to believe that Dark Worlds can make something like this happen, if they can bring back the dead like with Gerson. And this would explain why the Knight doesn't act like a Darkner; it's something else entirely. Sadness so powerful it manifests in the Light World

But there's a second (maybe less likely) layer to this: Ralsei. I think Ralsei is the antithesis to the Knight, made of Kris's happy memories of their brother. That's why he's so similar in appearance and name to Asriel, and why he's so loving and caring. He is fundimentally a being of pure hopes and dreams and happy memories.

Are there a ton of holes in this theory? Yes. Does it make complete sense? No. Does it make more thematic sense than the Knight *just* being Dess? I'd say so. Is it cool as fuck? Hell yeah it is
