"One to none"

This is a very important month for my family and I. My mother has had type 2 diabetes since she was 18, but it wasn’t until she was pregnant with me that it turned into type 1. She has had many complications with her health due to this disease; nearly losing her eyesight being one of them. My sister was diagnosed with type 1 when she was 10. Thankfully she is very well educated with everything and is doing very well. All of her numbers are damn near perfect. The only problem is that I fear she will have the same complications my mother has had. Just recently, my dad was diagnosed with type 2. Thankfully, his is because of his lifestyle and he is working very hard to change it for the better. Along with them, my aunt and great uncle, on my mom’s side, have been dealing with type one diabetes for nearly their whole lives. Unfortunately, grandfather, on my mom’s side, died from complications from his diabetes.

As you can tell, this is and disease that runs rapidly through my family. Most people just assume that it is caused from just being fat. That’s not true. Take it from someone who has seen what this disease does up close and personal and educate yourselves.

Take the time and learn what is happening to your friends and family members. Ask them and make sure you know what it is that is needed of you in case they go into an attack. Taking your time and asking these simple questions could potentially save a life.

So after my long rant, all I ask is that you wear grey on November 14th. Not only will it mean a lot to me and my family, but it will mean to the other diabetics around the world. Thank you.
