went to the meadows with Susan last night to do some experimental filming, my idea at first was to have a screen set up, with a light behind it, illuminating the screen, and then having a silhouette of the foliage in front and filming it for a few minutes with no movement.

This gave a beautiful effect. The masking tape stuck directly onto the paper. This paper gives a nice mottled effect, but in real life with the light shinning through something strange happens. The masking tape doesn’t look as though it’s right there, it looks like it’s a photograph being projected. It has a really nice quality about it.
I’d like to create some botanical images with layers of masking tape. See how it looks.

Some little experiments the other day, the paper gave such a lovely warm glow. I placed pins underneath to see what shadows would be created.

mildew cobwebs early in the meadows
The other week in the meadows, Susan took me to see the oldest Oak tree in Belvoirpark, 380 years old. And still alive.
I’d noticed some tree fungi, rich dark brown with layers of pale brown, they looked healthy and strong. The very next day I took Fiona to see the tree, and noticed that the same fungi had died overnight. It was pale, wrinkled and shriveling up. All in the space of a day.

experiment with adding thread roots, and covering in a thin material.
Didn’t really love the effect of the material.
However i did quite like the projected roots, I placed a light underneath and it created a projection of a sort of moving net onto the tracing paper.
Maybe the veil effect would work better if it was arranged in a column and had a spot light from above or below in a dark room.

I love how the light transfers down the translucent tunnel, and also the strong shadows, especially from the broom stick

I quite enjoyed this set, but really was not so found of the drawings created from these.
There is something about them, they have less tonal contrasts, as well as too literal, maybe if I crop the scenes down to obscure the view a little more.

Some photographs within my miniature models, using them as sort of film sets.
Playing with the light inside. Going to create a series of drawings directly from these photos. Allowing myself to study the way the light wraps itself within an interior, as well as enabling myself the ability to heighten certain contrasts, alter composition etc to make them more minimalist.

I really enjoyed the abstraction and depth with the screens spaced this certain distance apart, and rotating the screen to allow for the light to alter.
