“I mean don’t even get me started on the symbolism of the money clip to jiara like🫠” explain!! What does it mean?
OKAY SO HEAR ME OUT
I think the money clip is a symbolism of their relationship.
Like Kiara said, her parents had no real reason to hate JJ other than assumptions based on reputations people who don’t understand have given him. They had no real reason to single him out and hate him more than the other boys. It was all speculation.
JJ stealing the money clip was giving them a reason, he was feeding into and that’s why Kiara is pissed. Not that he actually stole it, but more so that he wants to give her parents a reason to hate him, to establish the class differences—by stealing that money clip and not proving her parents wrong, it felt like he was just giving up and not accepting/trying their relationship. It was almost like a form of sabotage but also defiance to those feelings growing between them.
So for him to then apologise for it, it’s more so that he’s apologising that he was giving up on them, that he was trying to push the feelings away and deny them for so long. The money clip is their dynamic, the act of stealing it is how it’s viewed between them: acting like it didn’t matter was all about the differences between them feeling bigger than the relationship, but the act of apologising for it was accepting their feelings and wanting to tackle the relationship, despite the troubles and challenges they may face.
This may sound like total bullshit but it makes sense to me, okay💀

Ok, so 18 month time jump has me thinking that Kiara and JJ aren’t together. Is that just me?

I don’t want to speculate too much, but the Rudy & Madison “drama” is a perfect example of why people should just enjoy media for what it is & stop prying into actors’ lives. I think it’s pretty clear Rudy struggles with some degree of anxiety. He mentioned in the EW interview that the s2 JJ heart taps were inspired by him doing that to remind himself he’s alive. He seems much more comfortable in interviews when they’re more intimate & low-key. I’d say he looked (understandably) overwhelmed at the s3 premiere. LET THEM LIVE & JUST ENJOY JIARA. I promise it’s more fun that way 🫶🏻

ok, but look... this song ...that attacked me today. this song... it's a Jiara song. hell, it's a JJ song.
"I may not have the softest touch
I may not say the words as such
And though I may not look like much
I'm yours
And though my edges may be rough
I never feel I'm quite enough
I may not seem like very much
But I'm yours."
*walks into the ocean screaming*

if they do this right? It'll be fucking insane??? Those moments in the finale? them having the same dreams? JJ laughing when she says got room for one more bc she can't possibly want to go with him? them being ride or die for each other and saving each other? Idk if it's been discussed before but that was to a T an encapsulation of their entire dynamic and why they work and exactly the points they should focus on in s3 so it's giving me a little hope for season 3 that they'll do them justice
Not only was 2x10 perfect, but everything they’ve done with Jiara and said about Jiara has given me hope for S3. Idk, I just genuinely think it’s going to be really awesome because not only did they take their time with it in S2, but it’s clear they wanted to do it right and that they see what we see. And we have two actors who absolutely get the dynamic inside and out. Every crumb of information about S3 makes it seem even better, like the things they are bringing up and mentioning in interviews that they want to explore with them.
I don’t think anything can ever be absolutely perfectly the way you’ve imagined it in your head for three years, but I definitely have more than just a little hope. I know that obx can have some questionable writing, but I think they hit emotional beats really well when they put their mind to it and this is their big card.

Hey Lizze do you think Kiara alwaus had feelings for JJ but didn't realize them since they basically grew up together as best friends sometimes you can't tell that the feelings are just friendship so she probably subconsciously always knew the other thing is she didn't want to ruin their great friendship. Now seeing the Season 3 trailer I can't wait for it we finally get to see Kiara in love and actually pursue JJ first time it's her own choice wanting to be with someone and not circumstances
I think Kiara probably never examined her feelings for all three of her best friends in a let's compare how I feel about each of them and what's different about it kinda way. She was forced to examine how she felt about John B. and then Pope because THEY acted on it. And she realized she didn't actually want to be with either of them.
But JJ was always kinda there, the friend who made her feel safe (and we can go into the reasons why JJ would have never acted on it, which are probably not all that positive), and maybe she would have actually figured it out earlier if JJ had ever done anything other than just ...take what he thought he deserved, which was basically what Kiara was willing to give him. In fact, it's likely JJ never even thought he deserved her friendship, so he treated that like a thing to cherish and would never dare to presume he could have more.
So Kiara ...well, she didn't have to look at anything too closely. Ironically, I think things not working out with Pope might have led to some self-examination, at least in the sense that it gave Kiara a baseline of what she didn't want. And then there was JJ, who was still around, still the friend she could count on, still the one who would both step in front of a madman for her, but also who she would gladly go on a surf trip with because ...he made her feel safe, and cared for. I don't necessarily think it was anything big, it was just like a switch has been flicked somewhere, to coin a phrase. And suddenly things were clearer.
And I think Kiara is a person that, when she makes a choice, she commits. All in. She'll ask for what she wants, but she'll be kind and understanding about the fact that it's not just about her. And in a way, that's why I think Jiara works -- because there are those feelings, there's that attraction, but there's also that rock-solid foundation of friendship. Can't escape your best friend. You can try, but they see through you.
