Five Privileges for Muslim Ummah (4)
The Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم)‎ said: “With regard to Ramadan, my Ummah has been granted five bounties which were not granted to nations before them; …. (4) In this blessed month the Shayateen are imprisoned so that they (Muslims) cannot reach to commit that level of sins which they can in months other than Ramadan….” [At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb]
When the Shayateen (devils) are locked up during Ramadan there is definitely a decrease in the level and quantity of sins that a Muslim commits and an increase in worship and good deeds that we all can witness.
However, since throughout the year each person’s Nafs was under training of the Shaytaan, it is the Nafs that continues to incite a person to commit sins even when the Shayateen are gone. The more it had been pampered during the year and allowed to have its way, the stronger will be its incitement in Ramadan. The taste that one develops during the year for sin also keeps one on the track of committing sins.
This is why one can still witness Muslims committing sins during Ramadan. Whatever sins you commit in Ramadan originate from your Nafs (self) and are not the result of the immediate promptings of Shaytaan. Ramadan is therefore a good time to witness the condition of your Nafs (how much it inclines to evil) and subdue it through fasting, which deprives it of what it desires, thereby weakening it.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
Narrated Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه):
I saw Allah's Messenger drinking milk. He came to my house and I milked a sheep and then mixed the milk with water from the well for Allah's Messenger (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم)‎. He took the bowl and drank while on his left there was sitting Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), and on his right there was a bedouin. He then gave the remaining milk to the bedouin and said, "The right! The right (first)."

Recite before Entering Bathroom
“When the Prophet ﷺ entered the washroom he would say,
‘Allahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-khubthi wa’l-khabaa’ith.’” [Saheeh Bukhaari]
The meaning of this Dua is: “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from male and female devils.”
The Prophet ﷺ told us to recite this Dua when entering bathrooms since “these places are inhabited by devils.” [Sunan Abi Dawood]

Expel Shaytaan with Sajda
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When the son of Adam recites an aayah where prostration is required and he prostrates, the Shaytaan withdraws weeping, and says, ‘Woe to him (according to the report of Abu Kurayb: woe to me), the son of Adam was commanded to prostrate and he prostrated, so Paradise is his; I was commanded to prostrate and I refused, so Hell is my fate.’” [Saheeh Muslim]
Don’t forget to perform Sajda Tilawat, the Sajda that is required upon reciting certain aayaat of the Quran. Sajda is what distinguishes us from the Shaytaan. Sajda is our acknowledgement of Allah’s supremacy over everything. It is our acknowledgement of His uniqueness, His greatness, and His right to our unconditional obedience.
This hadith also gives us an example of how adhering to the Quran and Sunnah in word and deed expels the Shaytaan and upsets him.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه):
I heard Allah's ﷺ saying, "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet ﷺ added, "That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds."

Follower of Fortune-Teller or Prophet?
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever comes to a fortune-teller or a soothsayer and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.” [Sunan Abi Dawood]
Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله‎) says in Ighaathat al-Lahfaan: “The fortune-tellers are the messengers of the devils, because the mushrikeen hasten to them and turn to them concerning their most important affairs. They believe in them, they refer to them for judgement and they accept their judgement, just as the followers of the Messengers do with the Messengers. They believe that they know the unseen and that they tell them about matters of the unseen which no one knows except them. In the eyes of the mushrikeen, their status is like that of the Messengers.”
Thus, people are of two types: the followers of fortune-tellers and the followers of Messengers. A person cannot be both; the closer he is to the fortune-teller, the further away he is from the Messenger ﷺ, and the more he believes in the fortune-teller the more he disbelieves in the Messenger ﷺ.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
Narrated Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه):
A man kissed a woman (unlawfully) and then went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. Allah revealed:
"And offer prayers perfectly At the two ends of the day And in some hours of the night (i.e. the five compulsory prayers). Verily! good deeds remove (annul) the evil deeds (small sins) (11.114)."
The man asked Allah's Messenger ﷺ, "Is it for me?" He said, "It is for all my followers."

Horoscopes, Fortune-Tellers and Astrologers
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.”
[Muslim]
The belief that any person has knowledge of the unseen is a sinful and misguided notion. It goes against Islamic teachings which say that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Allah Alone. “(He Alone is) the All-Knower of the Ghayb (Unseen), and He reveals to none His Ghayb.” [Quran: Surah Jinn, Ayat 26]
Astrology has to do with decrees and influences, i.e., finding the connection of events on earth and astronomical movements. This is Haraam according to the Quran and Sunnah. The commentator on Al-Aqeedah at-Tahhaawiyyah said: “Astrologers are included in the word fortune-tellers, according to some of the scholars, and according to some of them both are the same.”
When astrologers and fortune-tellers get a prediction right on occasion, it may be either because of insight and intuition, or these words may be something that the Jinn have snatched from the heavens.
If the matter concerning which true words were spoken is something that has already taken place, such as knowing the name of a thief, or knowing the name of a person who has come to him for the first time, this may be achieved by sending a person to find out about people, or having a means of listening to what they say before they come to him, or it could be done with the help of devils and Qareens. The knowledge that the devils have about events that have already taken place is not something out of the ordinary.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
Narrated Busr bin Said (رضي الله عنه):
That Zaid bin Khalid (رضي الله عنه) sent him to Abi Juhaim (رضي الله عنه) to ask him what he had heard from Allah's Messenger ﷺ about a person passing in front of another person who was praying. Abu Juhaim (رضي الله عنه) replied, "Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, 'If the person who passes in front of another person in prayer knew the magnitude of his sin he would prefer to wait for 40 (days, months or years) rather than to pass in front of him.' Abu An-Nadr (رضي الله عنه) said, 'I do not remember exactly whether he said 40 days, months or years.'"

Jinn in the Séance Room
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated: “The souls of the martyrs are in the crops of green birds which have lamps hanging from the Throne. They wander about in Jannah wherever they wish, then they come back to those lamps.” [Saheeh Muslim]
This hadith tells us where the martyrs (Shuhada) are. They are enjoying themselves in Jannah. Whenever anybody dies, whether pious or evil, Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) takes their soul and keeps it. Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) says in the Quran: “It is Allah Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep. He keeps those (souls) for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed.” [Surah Zumar: Ayat 42]
Allah has appointed angels who torment those souls that were evil and bless those that were righteous and pious. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has explained to us how the Angel of Death seizes souls and what he does with them after that.
So what is the Islamic view on summoning the spirits of the dead? Is it possible? Pondering the meaning of the texts on this matter leads one to conclude that this is definitely impossible. Because souls are kept with their Lord, He has appointed strong and skilled guardians over them. So they cannot escape or run away from them to come to those people who play with people’s minds. Some spiritualists claim that they are summoning the souls of one of the righteous slaves of Allah, such as the Prophets or martyrs. But Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) has told us that they are alive with their Lord. They do not leave the Gardens of eternal bliss to come to a darkened séance room.
Those who are thought to be spirits are either devils at large from among the jinn, or the person’s own devil companion, Qareen. Since the Qareen constantly accompanies a person he knows a lot about his characteristics, habits, attributes, relatives and friends.
Those who call themselves spiritualists and claim to be able to summon spirits and heal the sick by means of them, or find lost objects, or tell the future, or serve people, are liars. These spirits are no more than devils, and working with devils jeopardizes one’s life in this world and surely the next.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The prayer offered in congregation is twenty five times more superior (in reward) to the prayer offered alone in one's house or in a business, because if one performs ablution and does it perfectly, and then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for each step which he takes towards the mosque, Allah upgrades him a degree in reward and (forgives) crosses out one sin till he enters the mosque. When he enters the mosque he is considered in prayer as long as he is waiting for the prayer and the angels keep on asking for Allah's forgiveness for him and they keep on saying: 'O Allah! Be Merciful to him, O Allah! Forgive him, as long as he keeps on sitting at his praying place and does not pass wind.

Urine of Shaytaan is Laziness
“Mention was made in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of a man who slept a whole night until morning. He said, ‘That is a man in whose ear the Shaytaan has urinated.’” [Bukhaari]
Imaam Ibn al-Jawzi (رحمه الله‎), quoting one of the Salaf, said: “I warn you against ‘Sawfa’ (i.e. saying ‘I will do…’) because it is one of the greatest troops of Iblees. The likeness of the one who strives resolutely and the one who is content with the idea that he has plenty of time is that of a group of people who are on a journey and enter a town. The one who is resolute goes and buys the supplies he needs to complete his journey and sits ready to resume his journey. The negligent one says, ‘I will get ready, but probably we will stay here for a month (so I have plenty of time).’ So when the call to resume the journey comes, the one who was prepared is happy to move on, whilst the one who was negligent becomes very confused and distressed.
“This is the likeness of people in this world. Some of them are prepared and alert, and when the angel of death comes they feel no regret, but the others who are deluded and procrastinate, will feel bitter regret at the time of departure. If it is in a person’s nature to like to procrastinate and feel that he has plenty of time, then Iblees comes and encourages that person to act in accordance with his nature, so it becomes difficult for him to strive. But the person who is concerned about himself knows that he is in a battlefield and that his enemy will not give up. Although he may appear to be leaving him alone for a while, in secret he is plotting against him and setting a trap for him.” [Talbees Iblees]

Laziness is from Shaytaan
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When one of you wakes up from his sleep and does wudoo, then let him rinse his nose three times, for the Shaytaan spends the night on his nose.” [Bukhaari]
This hadith mentions one of the means by which the Shaytaan makes a person lazy. So when we wake up from sleep we should take Allah’s name and perform full wudoo, which includes the rinsing of the nose.
Another way in which the Shaytaan makes a person lazy in doing good deeds is by means of waswasah (insinuating whispers). How he does this is by making him feel that he has plenty of time and so the person becomes lazy and procrastinates.
Imaam Ibn al-Jawzi (رحمه الله‎) said concerning this: “How many Christians and Jews felt inclined towards Islam, but the Shaytaan kept discouraging them by saying, ‘Don’t rush into it, think about it.’ So he made them delay entering Islam until they died in a state of Kufr. Similarly, he makes the sinner put off repenting, and he keeps him indulging in his desires, telling him that one day he can repent…. He keeps on making people like to be lazy, or put off doing good deeds, and he deceives them by telling them that they have plenty of time and a lot of hope.
“So, the one who wants to do some good deed should carry out his actions with determination and resolve. Resolve means to not waste time and not delay things. He should forget about having plenty of time, because the one who has been warned (of the punishment of Allah) should not feel secure. What you miss, you cannot make up for. The reason for every shortcoming or inclination towards evil is the belief that there is plenty of time and a lot of hope, because man keeps thinking of giving up evil and turning towards good, but he procrastinates. No doubt whoever thinks that he has the whole day ahead of him will take his time, and whoever has the hope that he will still be there in the morning will do very little during the night, but the one who thinks of death as imminent will strive hard.” [Talbees Iblees]
