q. you came to Korea to work with esteem but now you’re branching out into business, what made you decide to do that?               ⤷ I’ve always wanted to try many things, being a renaissance man has always been my dream.

At eleven fifty pm, partygoers in Octagon, one of the best clubs in Seoul as voted for in 2017 all had their eyes glued to the stage as soloist Minki kept them captivated, eleven fifty-five, his performance is over for a moment, DJ MANY₩ON resumed his duties as the bottle girls gave out champagne glasses. Che came out on stage with a bottle in his hand, microphone in the other. “This isn’t just ordinary champagne.” He looks so smug as everyone around us begins to look at their flutes in curiosity. “This is KINGBORN champagne.” He holds out the bottle as a giant banner is rolled out from the rafters, Minki posing with the same bottle within Che’s grasp. 

Everyone counts down to one and we’re suddenly in the new year, Che kisses who everyone has finally detected as his girlfriend. DJ MANY₩ON puts on another Minki song and he begins to perform more. I finally get a moment to ask Che a couple questions, away from the loud noises it’s just me, him and, his girlfriend who’s hand he refuses to let go of “branching out into the liquor business has always been something on my ‘I wonder if I can do it list’ he says. “KINGBORN champagne has been a love child of mine that I started developing last --” his girlfriend reminds him that technically ten minutes ago was last year and he chuckles, “I started developing my brand in 2017, being in constant contact with the best vineyards in Italy to achieve the highest quality I could get. I want KingBorn to be the next Dom Perignon, the next Ace of Spades.” And based on the price tag of a single bottle, Che is serious about making KingBorn for the one percent drinkers. 

I ask him about his spokesperson Minki, who still slays away on stage and what made Che pick him. “We’re both new to this,” he explains. “His image fits the aesthetic and demographic I’m aiming for and he knows how to work the camera. It felt like the perfect puzzle piece slotting into place.” Whether it’s champagne, cars or fashion, Che Ryu is placing his mark where he can.

Over the span of days, pictures of Che suddenly appeared on social media sites unannounced. Given the nature and quality of the photos, it was quickly determined that they were from an unreleased photoshoot based on the hair color that he unveiled a couple months ago. He seemed agitated when asked about it when walking in the airport. “It’s a thing, test shots I did with my personal photographer.” Who is Che’s personal photographer? Chester Ryu is officially a free man. In June of 2017, Chester Ryu, 26, was arrested at Miami International Airport for outstanding warrants for his arrest. His trial in August, he accepted a five-year plea deal after pleading not guilty to simple assault, cocaine possession, and resisting arrest. His attorney managed to get a deal for him to serve his probation in Seoul, South Korea. After months of house arrest, he underwent anger management, narcotics anonymous and did 2,000 hours of community service.

Still residing in Korea, he had his court date via webcam, his attorney in person in the courtroom. Ryu implored with the judge about his good behavior, passing his weekly drug tests and completing his anger management class, showing the judge his certificate of completion. He admitted he still attends N/A meetings, being frank about his daily struggle to remain clean. “One day at a time,” Ryu said with a forlorn face. He’s been spotted going in and out of SNU Hospital for weeks and refuses to deluge his reasonings behind it but tells people his current health is okay, minor back issues but he plans on dealing with that in the new year.

“Gobsmacked,” Ryu says over the phone to PEOPLE MAG after asked how he felt about. “It still hasn’t hit me yet, I’m eternally grateful to the judge for taking mercy on me and the hard work of my attorney, Mr. Lorzeno Pugliesi. I’ll try my best to stay out of trouble now.” Chester Ryu is still wildly known as the son of AC Foster, the best selling author, and film executive, and the other half of the sex-tape with fading Hollywood starlet Zora Antov. Nowadays, he runs his business KINGBORN AUTO, an international luxury car rental business, while based in Seoul, he has several locations including, New York, Beverly Hills and, Hong Kong. Originally moving to Korea to model, being offered a contract, he expanded his image and has his mark in fashion among other things. “Got big things coming,” he says, “it’s top secret for now but the world will see it eventually.”
