This is just some self-indulgent sick!fic where Lan Xichen takes very good care of Jiang Cheng. It has all the loving nicknames, forehead kisses, soft kisses and snuggling anyone could need. It comes in at 3.7k, so watch out for the read more. It’s also here on AO3, if you prefer that.

Jiang Cheng knows he is sick. It is hard to deny that fact when he is sweating and shivering in turns, and everything is a little bit unreal and blurry around the edges. Not to mention his stuffed nose and the blinding headache that is throbbing away behind his temple.

Still, he can’t just rest, like his body demands. There are matters to attend to; letters to reply to, disputes to settle, meetings to be hold and decisions to be made.

He’s the sect leader; he can’t just take a day off. And he has a very honored guest that should be entertained.

No matter how much he aches with the need to lay down and rest his eyes, just for a moment.

But instead of doing that, he sits in his chair and listens to his Clan Elders complain about this year’s harvest.

As if that is something Jiang Cheng can influence.

Not for the first time that day Jiang Cheng wishes he had a trusted second, just so he could hand some of the responsibility off to them. But the only one who he trusts enough to handle the matters of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan is Jin Ling, and the poor boy is swamped enough as it is with learning how to deal with his own sect. He’s with Jiang Cheng to learn. Not to be put under more pressure.

Jin Ling doesn’t need this added responsibility, and besides. If anyone should help anyone, it would be the other way around. Like it always has been.

So Jiang Cheng continues to sit through this meeting, pretends that he cares, when he really couldn’t give less of a fuck if the Elders received a little bit less money from the harvest than they did last year, and tries his damn hardest to not just faceplant into the ground.

Even though the prospect becomes more and more tempting with every second that passes. If he manages to knock himself out like that, he’ll get at least a little bit of rest and quiet.

“Sect Leader,” one of the Elders suddenly says and it takes almost a full minute for the image of two identical people in front of his eyes to merge into one. “Are you feeling okay?”

“Yes,” Jiang Cheng grits out, and straightens up.

“No,” Jin Ling says from his side and Jiang Cheng sends him a silencing look.

Where is that handy silencing charm from Gusu when you need it.

“Be quiet,” Jiang Cheng demands, but Jin Ling squares his shoulders and Jiang Cheng knows what this means.

The boy takes too much after his mother in that regard.

“Sect Leader Jiang is sick,” Jin Ling says, almost accusingly, and Jiang Cheng would roll his eyes if he wasn’t so certain that it would split his head wide open.

“I am not,” Jiang Cheng presses out.

They have had this conversation already. All through breakfast and well into the morning, right until Jiang Cheng just walked out to attend to his duties, like a good sect leader.

“Shouldn’t you be resting, then?” the Elder says hesitantly.

“No,” Jiang Cheng tells him, just as Jin Ling says “Yes, he should be,” and Jiang Cheng’s head snaps around to him, not caring that the sudden movement upsets his stomach.

“I swear to the ancestors, I will throw you out if you don’t behave,” he threatens, and Jin Ling narrows his eyes at him.

“Do it. It’ll give me the opportunity to get Zewu-Jun in here,” Jin Ling hisses at him and Jiang Cheng shakes his head.

“He can’t order me to go to bed, either. Besides, you shouldn’t trouble him, he’s a guest.”

“Young master Jin, if Zewu-Jun would be able to help, we’re happy to get him,” one of the more friendly Elders pipes up and Jin Ling nods at him.

“He’s the only one uncle respects enough to listen to,” he decides. “Go get him.”

I am proud of you

Jiang Cheng should be praised every hour, and I’m here to get that started. Lan Xichen is totally on my side.

Lan Xichen hates cultivational conferences. The endless talking, the schmoozing, the blatant lies, the shifting blame; it’s tiresome and exhausting and Lan Xichen considers going back into seclusion, just to avoid these things.

The only enjoyable part of a conference is Jiang Cheng.

Lan Xichen loves seeing the other man, loves being reminded of just how far Jiang Cheng came in all this time.

He’s still as angry as ever, his words biting in a way no one else manages, but it’s clear that his people adore him and that he’s one of the most prestigious Sect Leaders they have.

And that’s not only because everything is in shambles right now. Jiang Cheng has always been the very best of all of them, and it’s a joy to watch him put Sect Leader Yao in his place for daring to question Jin Ling’s claim on the position of Sect Leader.

Lan Xichen hides his smile behind his cup of tea, because Lan Qiren is throwing him accusing looks already, but Lan Xichen can’t help it.

He admires Jiang Cheng, and it’s a joy to see him so reassured in his position.

Lan Xichen zones out when Sect Leader Yao dares to yet again throw accusations around, but he promises that this time he will tell Jiang Cheng how awed he is by him.

Lan Xichen still remembers the very first conference Jiang Cheng attended as a newly appointed Sect Leader, how he asked for guidance by Lan Xichen and the memory makes Lan Xichen smile again.

Jiang Cheng has never needed anyone’s guidance. He carved his own path in the world, and he did it so well, too, especially at such a young age and under the circumstances.

Lan Xichen knows that lesser men, him included, would have broken under the pressure of losing their family and taking over a destroyed sect in the middle of a war.

But not so Jiang Cheng. He thrived under the pressure, and is now the strongest and best among them, just like his sect.

Lan Xichen just wishes he could have achieved that under less dire circumstances.

Jiang Cheng’s throat is burning, the echo of his words still ringing out in the hanshi and there is nothing for Jiang Cheng to do except watch them hit Lan Xichen.

He can see it on his face, how the words hit, how the meaning makes itself clear, how they settle into Lan Xichen’s chest.

Jiang Cheng can see the damage they cause, and he wants to take them back, stuff them back in his mouth and never say them at all, but it is too late, he knows that.

It is always too late, his words and temper yet again getting the better of him.

“I see,” is all Lan Xichen says to it.

He wants to say more, Jiang Cheng sees him open his mouth again, but instead of hurting Jiang Cheng back, he closes his mouth, turns around and leaves.

The sound of the door closing after him–gentle, always still gentle–hurts worse than words could anyway.

“Oh,” Jiang Cheng manages, because he knows what this means.

Enough people walked out on him for him to understand that this is it.

There might have been something between Lan Xichen and himself, Jiang Cheng might have even thought he is in love, but it doesn’t matter.

If there ever was something, it’s ruined now, Jiang Cheng knows that.

He works his jaw a few times, and he curls his hands into fists to stop them from shaking, but it’s hardly any use. 

Jiang Cheng turns away from the door, doesn’t want to see where Lan Xichen walked out on him, and starts to gather his things.

Xicheng Headcanon, i guess

After LXC and JC have been married for a bit, LXC has absolutely picked up JC’s habit of swearing like a sailor, but only when JC is there because the man is still polite to a fault. 

JC has gotten used to it, and just goes along with it because he thinks LXC is really, really cute when he swears/gets frustrated.

And when people find out, it is the best thing ever;

WWX (a) was probably passing by the Hanshi on the way back to the Jingshi after a morning in the rabbit pile, and he’s happy and contented until he hears a soft voice, barely audible, in a very mild tone say “….shit” from behind the sunflowers in the garden of the Hanshi. The voice is definitely not JC’s, and that voice has almost managed to make the curse word sound polite. There are white, albeit plain for daily life, robes peeking out from behind the stalks. That’s when it hits WWX. The one who cursed was the honoured Zewu-Jun. It leaves him amused for the rest of the day, but no one suspects anything because WWX is just like that all the time.

WWX (b) was passing by the Hanshi in the same circumstances as in (a), but he hears an unfamiliar voice ring out from the kitchen in the Hanshi: a moderately loud, soft sounding exclamation of “fUCK” followed by the sound of something shattering. Hurried footsteps sound, and then JC’s voice rings out: “Holy shit, A-Huan, what did you do?” followed by hysterical laughter from both people. WWX feels all fuzzy inside because his brother sounds genuinely happy for the first time in quite a while, and he’s smiley all day because of it.

LWJ probably got into a petty fight with LXC over the bunnies eating all of LXC’s chrysanthemums or something, and when the argument reaches its peak, LXC’s voice goes into a scary calm that remindes WWX on the side of the late Violet Spider and her dearest son, and he deadpans: “Why the fuck would you say that, Wangji?”, and LWJ just freezes, LXC realizes what he just said and freezes too, and WWX is with JC in the bushes and both are trying their damnest to hold in their laughter but its just not working, and everyone brushes it off like it never happened before. LWJ is now slightly more careful about what he says near his brother now.

LQR is ranting to LXC about how he still doesn’t approve of WWX even though he and LWJ have been married for almost a decade now, and eventually ropes JC into it by saying JC is not much better than WWX and is probably only just a little bit better. And then it happens. LXC’s teacup is crushed into shards in his hand, and he stands up abruptly and snarls at his uncle: “What the hell did you say about my fucking man?” LQR has never been this scared of LXC.

Jin Zixuan trying to figure out which is sweeter: cafe manager/patissiere Jiang Yanli or her pastries??

“Professor Lan,” Jiang Cheng greets, when Lan Xichen reaches the front of the line. “You’re normally not here this time of the day.”

Jiang Cheng curses himself mentally the moment the words leave his mouth. Fantastic. Why doesn’t he just tell the guy that he’s bloody memorised his schedule, and arranged his shifts to fit it? 

“I thought you might be here today,” Lan Xichen says, smiling gently. “Wangji told me that he’s taking Wei Wuxian out on a trip today.”

It almost sounds like… Lan Xichen came to see him. 

Right. Like that could ever happen.

Jiang Cheng forces himself to smile. “The usual today?”

“I was hoping I could get something different today,” Lan Xichen says.

"Don't give me space. That's the last thing I want with you" for xicheng please?

Jiang Cheng reaches out to grab Lan Xichen by the wrist when he stands. “Don’t give me space,” he says in a rush, around the ringing in his head. 

He’s still so angry, but the anger is quickly being displaced by fear that Lan Xichen is going to leave, that Lan Xichen will leave this time, and that will be it. 

“That’s the last thing I want with you,” he says, a quiet plea, an even gentler apology.  

Lan Xichen lets out a sigh. “Wanyin,” he breathes out. 

He’s still not looking at Jiang Cheng, and Jiang Cheng feels the embarrassing prickle of tears hit him. 

He knows he tends to be unnecessarily harsh with his words, and he knows he angers quickly, and is used to deflecting most of his emotions through sharp, inconsiderate words. He tries to be better with Lan Xichen, the way he does with Jin Ling, but it’s hard sometimes to control himself, because Lan Xichen is so accepting of all his flaws.

Perhaps there is a limit to Lan Xichen’s patience, after all.

My MDZS Couples Headcanons (part 2)

XiCheng (Lan Xichen x Jiang Cheng)

They visit each other frequently

They practice sword/cultivation techniques together

JC is a bottom (90%), and a teeny tiny bit of a pillow princess at times (LXC likes to spoil him).

JC has accidentally used LXC forehead ribbon as a hair tie a few times

LXC loves when JC wears his hair down

LXC likes to spend time with JC while he’s baking (my mdzs hc 1), his concentration face is cute

While JC maybe the bottom 90% of the time, he is not submissive.

LXC loves when JC tells him what he wants him to do and when he “punishes” him with his whip. He is a bit of a masochist

JC was very shy at first

They tried to keep it secret, but LWJ figured it out, he promised to keep it secret until they were ready. A few weeks later WWX found them making out behind the library.

They comfort each other over those they have lost, and everything that’s happened. Whenever either of them has a nightmare the other holds him and listens as he talks.

JC always brings some sort of baked good/pastry for LXC when he comes to the cloud recesses. LXC brings little trinkets for JC, a new hair tie or some special baking untensil/ingredient.

After they make it official LXC is almost always showering JC with little affections and compliments. Always holding his hands or hugging his waist/shoulders. He greets him with a chaste kiss to his cheek, forehead, or hand, unless they haven’t seen each other in a longer period of time then its a big passionate kiss on the lips.

If LXC wakes up first he has a cup of tea/coffee ready for JC when he wakes up and vice versa. They typically wake up together when they are not in their respective sects on their own.

I feel like JL gives LXC the whole “if you hurt my uncle” talk and its kinda cute, really sweet and LXC promises very seriously that he will do anything to keep JC safe and happy and healthy. JL is pretty happy to have another uncle.

LQR was a bit on the fence about their relationship, since you know the sect leader needing an heir thing, but he was happy that LXC was happy and moving on from JGY. He gave JC a very long lecture about what would happen if were to hurt LXC in anyway.

When they eventually adopt children, its a set of twins, 1 boy and 1 girl. They raise them and trian them equally. The girl has quite the temper whereas the boy is a little shy and fairly calm. Jin Ling was both very nervous and excited to have younger cousins.

Their actual wedding is fairly small with just family and close friends. They both have tears of joy in their eyes by the end. It’s all very touching. They have a celebration banquet later that is much, much larger.

When they’re together JC visibly softens and smiles, while LXC just seems more free laughing and even teasing him at times. Its the calmest and happiest either of them has felt.

They help each other recover from and overcome everything that gets in their way. LXC even helps JC make up with WWX.

LXC gives JC flowers with carefully constructed messages conveying his affections and compliments.

JC gives LXC a Yunmengjiang Sect silver bell and LXC gives him a jade pendant and a gusulan sect forehead ribbon to tie his hair back with.

They both love to body worship each other.

One time LXC came to the lotus peer with six puppies for JC, who was very happy to recieve such a gift. JC reports their growth and progress to him in every letter, and everytime he comes to the lotus pier they are their with JC to welcome him.

They are nearly as inseparable as LWJ and WWX, only being away from each other when sect business demands it of them. They write to each other often.

LXC finds himself fully underatanding why LWJ did what he did for WWX and why for 13 years he waited, playing inquiry and sneaking emperors smile into the cloud recesses.

They can be very childish together, even pulling pranks on each other or LWJ and WWX.

I hadn’t planned to translate another chapter but I recently discovered the extra story「朝暮」exclusive to the Taiwan physical book and it’s truly a hidden gem.

I also hadn’t planned to ever write explicit content. Oh well.

It was long past 9 pm and he still had not come back.

The paper lantern on the table was not yet extinguished, Lan Wangji was gazing at its hazy glow without blinking.

Rising after a long while, he walked to the entrance of the Jingshi and opened the wooden door.

10 Strange and hilarious Facts About Mo Dao Zu Shi

This is posted on Moxiang Tongxiu (Mo Dao Zu Shi’s author)’s personal Weibo on 31/10/2017, in celebration of the novel’s second anniversary. Translated badly by tumblr user my-otp-list.

1. Fairy is actually a Husky. When I set up this character, I didn’t know that huskies were… not that intelligent, so now in my mind Fairy still has the look of a Husky. Let’s just think that Fairy is an extremely intelligent mutated Husky okay…

2. Lan Qiren has a beard from a young age. However, it was shaved clean by Zangse Sanren. He was so mad!

Later, the son of Zangse Sanren also shaved his beard… (but I did not write about it).

*For those who don’t know, Zangse Sanren is Wuxian’s mother.


3. When Jin Guangyao took in Lan Xichen during his runaway, Guangyao sort of became Xichen’s assistant.

Guangyao helped wash Xichen’s clothes, because Xichen himself did not know how to wash. It was not possible to ask others to wash, because it would be dangerous if the cloud patterns were recognised. Moreover the clothes could not be thrown away or burnt.

Jin Guangyao used to complain to Nie Mingjue that Lan Xichen’s arm was too strong that he tore apart his clothes while washing…


4. It was way too easy to make Xingchen laugh. Both Xueyang and Ah Qing knew about this but they would never tell Xingchen. Song Lan did not know about this, because the dude never ever laughed…


5. Jiang Cheng went to 3 blind dates. For various reasons, he got blacklisted by all the female cultivators. 

Here are Jiang Cheng’s requirements in his partner: naturally beautiful, graceful and obedient, hard-working and thrifty, coming from a respected family, cultivation level not too high, personality not too strong, talking not too much, voice not too loud, spending money not too much. The dog snarked loudly at him; he was so scared he immediately ran to hide in a tree. It was Lan Wangji that chased the dog away. 

However, Wuxian thought that Wangji did not see him trembling on the tree.

9. Even though Lan Wangji never talks about it, Wei Wuxian discovers that Lan Wangji loves to use all sorts of things to tie him up during (…)


10. Between the seme and the uke, Wei Wuxian was the first character to be set up.

Back then I even ranted on Weibo, “This uke is giving me so much headache; I don’t know what kind of seme I should give him!”

The seme has gone though many changes in personalities, appearances, ages, backgrounds, back stories… such a complicated process!

But in the end, a flash of Heaven’s light came right through me, I slammed the table and chose the very first version - “This is him!" 

It can be seen that Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are fated to be together. No matter what happens, in the end it will always be that person.

Excuse me I’m a fan of your mdzs fanfics and can I request a Xicheng (Jiang Cheng x Lan Xichen) fanfic but no fluff please just a cute little scene or however you want it to be.

However I want it to be? Hahaha that is a lot of freedom :P

“Fairy, come back!” Jiang Cheng was walking around CloudRecesses searching for his nephew’s dog.

The dog ran away when it realized Jiang Cheng came toseparate him from his master. Cloud Recesses doesn’t let people keep pets or, ifthey do, they wouldn’t let dogs, not since Wei Wuxian started living there.

“Where did that stupid dog go?” Jiang Cheng sighedexasperated.

Walking aimlessly, he didn’t even notice where he was going.Suddenly, he found himself looking at the leader of Gusulan sect, playing withthe dog.

First thing he did was rub his eyes to see if he wasdreaming, then he stared, awestruck, at the smile on Lan Xichen’s face.

Beautiful, hethought, really beautiful.

He didn’t even know for how long he was staring, for him it wasjust a few seconds, but soon Lan Xichen saw him and greeted him.

Startled by other’s greeting, he clumsily greeted back.

“Stop bothering ZeWu-Jun”, JiangCheng was looking angrily at the dog. “We need to leave.”

Fairy, scared of Jiang Cheng, hid behind Lan Xichen.

Lan Xichen chuckled lightly and smiled. “Please don’t be madat Fairy, I am equally to blame. I did play with him.”

There was nothing to say to that so Jiang Cheng saidnothing.

“Would you mind joining me for tea?” Lan Xichen asked him,smiling brightly, the smile outshining the sun.

“I mustn’t bother ZeWu-Jun”, Jiang Cheng tried topolitely refuse, but Lan Xichen didn’t let him. “It is no bother. I wouldn’task you if it was. As two sect leaders it would be good to know each other.”

Again, Jiang Cheng could say nothing. He joined Lan Xichen.

Fairy was still a bit scared of Jiang Cheng so when theysat, it went and placed its head on Lan Xichen’s lap.

“Fairy!” Jiang Cheng was mortified.

“It’s all right”, Lan Xichen smiled and patted the dog’shead.

That scene did something to Jiang Cheng’s heart. It was tooserene, too beautiful, the sight of Lan Xichen’s half smile and gentleness withwhich he moved his hand tangling it with the dog fur.

I wish it was me…

Jiang Cheng froze. What was he thinking? Was Wei Wuxianrubbing on him. How could he think of something so ridiculous, so shameful? Hementally slapped himself.

“What’s wrong?” Lan Xichen asked seeing the other’s face.

“Nothing”, he answered, blushing slightly.

“I could pat you too if you want”, Lan Xichen chuckled,guessing what other was thinking.

“What?” Jiang Cheng jumped his face now completely red.“That is…” He couldn’t even find the word to describe it, his mind going inoverdrive.

“Cute”, Lan Xichen said, smile even bigger than before.
