100 Word Drabbles: The Moon

Moonlight made blonde strands look almost like silver as they flew fiercely with every move and strike the Elezen launched against the dummy, under the gaze of a Raen hidden behind one of the many windows.

A shadow approached the palescale silently as always. "Can't sleep, dono?"

The horned one nodded. "All of us, it seems."

The shadow joined the observation. "Nightmares?"

Another nod. "She's become strong."

"Regrets?"

The Raen shook her head. "Part of me just wishes... we could've kept her safe."

"Yes, dono."

A soft smile. "I'm waiting for the day you say: No, dono."

"Yes, dono."

Smile.

Writing Prompt: An absolutely scandalous rumor is circulating about your character. What is it? Who started it? How does your character handle the situation?

Something that actually DID happen a while ago in RP:

Claims that Chiami and her Gridania-based company, White Turtle Trading, were involved in a nefarious plot about a considerable inheritance, a burglary targeting Stillglade Fane, and a murder case. All pretty political stuff...

... especially since it was started and used by some very nasty people among the still-xenophobic  factions in Gridania, who would love seeing people like a Doma-born Raen businesswoman gtfo (while an internal family feud within a minor house of the Gridanian Gentry was also involved, targeting one of Chiami’s closest and most cherished employees).

How she handled it? Investigating to find out the real culprits (who are about to face justice now, took a loooong time but this lizard is patient...) to exonerate herself and her employee, while also having friends and allies spreading their own rumors... two can play this game >:)

Scion Cinnamon Rolls

This old meme came across my dash the other day and well, here’s my contribution:

Arenvald Lentinus is a big Ala Mhigan/Garlean Paladin who joined the Scions at the same time as the Warrior of Light…who is just a kid doing his best, and often in over his head. We’re proud of you, sweetie, you’re doing great (and your first primal went way better than ours).

Urianger Augurelt: This bookworm is capable of terrible things–if you can get him out of his library. No really, be worried when you see Urianger outside of the library; you’re probably going to see random new magic things, and/or be part of a Xanatos Gambit he’s speed running.

Krile Baldesion isn’t really a combatant at all, in part because of her Echo manifestation and role as a healer. Alphinaud Leveilleur can fight (with new forms of carbuncles no one else can create), but he’d much rather talk you out of it–and given half a chance, he will, and next thing you know you’re on his side.

Looks like they could kill you and could actually kill you:

Seriously, don’t get on their bad sides. Y’shtola Rhul’s sharp tongue and temper are feared among the Scions (don’t anger your healer), and she’s managed magic feats most conjurers can’t, from using an unattuned beastman aetheryte to forbidden teleports to her powerful shield spells. Papalymo Totolymo is introduced in the Gridania opening as “Short-Tempered Thaumaturge”, not to mention his heroic moment at the end of Heavensward, encasing the forming Shinryu (which even Louisoix technically failed to do with Bahamut).

Could kill you, but is still a cinnamon roll:

Lyse Hext and Alisaie Leveilleur are totally badass and handy to have at your side in a fight…but are still sweethearts, maintaining a level of innocence despite all they’ve seen and been through, and they love their Scion family deeply. Their friendship in Stormblood is wonderful. Alisaie’s love for her grandfather drove the Coils of Bahamut plot, while Lyse’s idealism is helping guide Ala Mhigo into a bright new future.

Would kill for a cinnamon roll:

Tataru Taru is sweetness, light, comic relief…and will destroy you if you cross her. Especially in matters of money–just ask Alphinaud. Barring that, she is not afraid to blackmail one of the major pirate captains of Limsa Lominsa to get her way. Fear a competent receptionist.

Sinnamon roll:

Thancred Waters: This one’s a given. I don’t make these rules. Seriously though, he could go in a few other categories depending on which expac/patch we’re in (I’d also put him next to Urianger in ARR, or with Y’shtola and Papalymo post-HW), but in the end, he’s still the charming rogue of the group, even if he’s chilled a bit since Heavensward steamrolled over everyone’s emotions.

Self reflection! How does your character feel about where they are in life? The things they've done? Are things as they want or expected?

"Doma free, and rebuilding itself... is a dream I barely hoped to see fulfilled in my lifetime, no matter how much we strove for it. To walk Yanxian soil again myself? Even less. Nor would the young courtier I was two decades ago have ever imagined of the amazing life I have lived, and live now, no matter the problems there are to face. Every problem holds a secret gift in its hands, if you know where to look. So... thank you, for everything, and everyone... and no doubt the best is yet to come -- I just got started... ^_^ "

“The tomestone you see is just a decorative cover for a handheld-style linkpearl, designed to resemble a common Allagan tomestone. You are not really using a tomestone as a mobile device. Tomestones contain data—usually compressed, encrypted, corrupted or otherwise impossible to extract—but they lack the ability to transmit this data across long distances. Unless, of course, I chucked one clear across the room at Garlond’s big head.

“The handheld-style linkpearl is becoming more common these days as an inexpensive alternative to the more traditional ear-mounted device. Beyond that, it works like a conventional linkpearl and you must hold it up to your ear to use it. A bit like a lovely seashell, only with a well-irritated fellow engineer screeching barely-masked obscenities at you on the other end, instead of the calming lullay of the ocean.”

What is something your character has had to work extra hard at? Something they've failed at? Or something they've given up on? How long did it take them to succeed at this? (If they have.)

Two things come to mind, one BIG, one small. 

The small: During her youth, while receiving a well-rounded education as a future courtier, diplomat and healer/seer-priestess Chiami also received lessons in music. It did not end well. She has decent feeling for rhythm, and can modulate her voice really well to influence people, but sing? People would pay her to stop. That woman simply can't hold a tune even if you build her a rack. Chiami has accepted that (as did her teachers back then), and music is something she enjoys listening to but doesn't try to get into anymore beyond some chanting when needed (which thankfully doesn't require much sense for music).

The BIG... 

Around two decades ago (a while into the occupation of Doma) she was tasked with advising her back-then young lord, when he joined an early conspiracy against the empire occupying their homeland. She sought the visions asked for and looked at all the intel available, and both led her to deliver warnings... unsuccessfully. Her liege was a goddamn arrogant fool who twisted even her terrifying visions to his own ends.... which led to the end of his clan and most of his retainers, and to Chiami having to flee her homeland into exile after a stint in imperial captivity. For a very long time she felt she failed as a seer and advisor to the clan and lord she served, as she was not able to persuade her liege to change course. She has overcome this (mostly unjustified) sense of failure, but still... what happened hurt, and she hasn't touched her ability as a seer ever since.... until now...

Character Prompt: Considering all the kiddie screenshots on Tumblr: what was your character like as a child? Favorite thing to do? Lots of friends? What was their education? Did they have certain dreams or aspirations?

Chiami was a bit on the intellectually precocious side (important word uttered early:"why?"), and mostly a very well-behaved, thoughtful child. She was destined by birth to become heir to her family's estates and a courtier and diplomat to her liege, trained thusly almost from the cradle. As her talents for the metaphysical and healing arts showed fairly early she received an education in that regard as well. 

She didn't have lots of friends, thanks to her upbringing combined with her quirky nature, but the few she had were very close -- she was always quite the friendly, caring and protective one, just... a bit odd. 

What she liked the best was reading, learning things from her teachers, spending time in nature and with the unseen... and as her taste for such developed in secret (but aided by her mother) developing goldsmithing and alchemy as sort of hobbies practiced in her meager spare time.

The Paissa Press - Volume I

The Paissa Press staff is overjoyed to bring you the very first edition of our publication. We worked extremely hard to bring forth interesting news, columns and coverage for you this month!
