Shy Hisoka

Hisoka mentions himself being shy, there's evidence supporting this. 1. Hisoka never speaks to someone unless they address him first. For example during the dodgeball game in the Greed Island arc when Hisoka, Killua, Bisky, Gon and everyone else were participating in the match against Razor, Hisoka refrained from verbal participation at the start. Hisoka remained at the back of the court and kept silent and to himself until the moment he was forced into a fight-like circumstances which he seems to feel the most comfortable in. 2. Hisoka never seems to approach people without a motive. His interactions seem complicated and often planned in advance. He seems to be unable to approach someone on a normal level. The only time he approaches someone first is when he wants to fight and thats also rare as nearly all the time he waits for his opponent to attack him first. He seems to be quite uncomfortable in a situation/circumstance where fighting to avoid death isn't a priority. 3. Hisoka doesn't seem to be 'embarrassed' about showing his exposed body to strangers. Though it's possible he has/had insecurities about his appearance which is why he cares for it so much now. He seems to be more socially awkward (possibly due to childhood experiences?) than 'shy' appearance wise. He appears to be unable to communicate with other people. Hisoka seems to be wearing a mask which he hides his true persona behind. He hides behind the illusion of confidence he's created for himself. During the dodgeball game that mask cracked a little possibly due to Gon's influential behaviour and Hisoka showed a different side of himself. However that little crack sealed up once again after Gon pointed out that Hisoka said something that was considered out of character on his behalf and Hisoka looked genuinely surprised at that. Okay this concludes my little Shysoka rant~

Shy Hisoka

Alright, so Hisoka mentions himself being shy in the 13th Chairman Election Arc. I believe that to be true as if you pay close attention he nearly never speaks to someone unless he's directly asked a question/ spoken to OR he's around someone he most likely feels relatively comfortable around. For example, during the Hunter Exam Hisoka did not speak to anyone until he was surrounded by a group of other candidates (excluding the shoulder bump and throwing cards at Satotz since that'll be discussed in another post). Later on in the anime, during the Greed Island Arc, while he was participating in the dodgeball game he wasn't exactly outgoing. He stayed at the back, keeping to himself, not speaking and letting others take care of things (although that might also link with him wanting to see Gon's growth). He hasn't directly participated (other than dodging and catching the ball on occasion) until he was forced into a fight-like situation (again this will be discussed later) which he seems to feel most comfortable in. He never really attacks someone before they attack him. He mostly waits for someone to approach him rather than going after them. (letstalkhxh - what you noticed) His interactions are complicated. He always seems to have them planned out ( how to approach them? ) and always has to have a motive to approach someone. We never see him interact with someone without a reason. That concludes my rant about shy baby Hisoka~
