“Transgender people in Uruguay are celebrating after the country’s Congress passed a comprehensive trans law yesterday (18 October).

The law brings in a host of new rights for transgender people.

Most notably, trans people can now self-identify their gender and update their legal name, without approval from a judge.

The new law also creates scholarships for trans people to access education, as well as sets up affirmative action. It also now acknowledges the self-identification of non-binary people.

The comprehensive law also creates a monthly pension for transgender people born before 1975. This is a way of making reparations for trans people who were targeted by the government during the country’s dictatorship from 1973 to 1985.

The reparations are effective of 1 January this year and affect anyone born before 31 December 1975.

The new law also requires government services to employ a minimum of 1% of the transgender population.

62 of 88 senators voted in favor of the new law.”

Setting: The late autumn after marriage

It was cold today with the first chill of late autumn. Kenshin shrugged into his new jacket, smiling apppreciatively at it’s warmth. He crossed to the storage shed, knelt and opened the chest against the far wall, sorting carefully through it, searching for a certain violet scarf. He hadn’t worn Tomoe’s scarf in months and it would be nice to feel it’s familiar weight. He moved aside his old, faded magenta shirt and blinked down at the wooden bottom of the chest.

For a long moment, he simply stared. I know that I put it here… where…? He sorted through the items again, and again, and there was no scarf. A small bloom of panic grew in his chest. Why isn’t it here? Finally, he walked to town, a deep frown etching his face. He shopped and walked home, disturbed, the chill wind nipping at his neck and throat.

He made their dinner in a daze. “Dammit,” he cursed quietly through his teeth and pried the burnt fish from the grill.

RELATIONSHIP  STATUS: Single in the anime’s beginning but then he gets married and gets busy making babies, pdq.

FAVORITE  CANON  SHIP( S ):  I prefer Kaoru over Tomoe as a ship, because while Tomoe was wonderful, it was a tragic thing. With Kaoru, Kenshin gets that happy ending he so richly deserves. Also, Kenshin comes to Tokyo sad and broken in a lot of ways. Kaoru is all fire, and Kenshin needs the warmth

FAVORITE  NON-CANON  SHIP( S ):  No need, he got married twice, I’m good.

OPINION  ON  TRUE  LOVE: I think that Kenshin would give up his life for almost anyone that needed him to, so that’s a bad litmus. I think that the moment that Kenshin would regret dying is the moment that he truely loves.

OPINION  ON  LOVE  AT  FIRST SIGHT: Naw, not this boy. Love creeps up on him like an unwelcome stray and just worms its way in. He never spots this shit coming.

HOW  ‘ROMANTIC’  ARE  THEY:  Very, in a quiet way. Kenshin’s love if your favorite meal, a massage when you’re sore, a hot bath when you’re stressed. If he’s feeling particularly romantic, you might get a live flower.  

IDEAL  PHYSICAL  TRAITS: I have this totally random headcanon that Kenshin is an ass/hips kinda guy. I have no idea why I think so, but it’s just so amusing that I indulge it in my fanfiction. Also, Kaoru works out a lot, you know that my girl has a great ass.

IDEAL  PERSONALITY  TRAITS: Kindness. (And courage, and honor, compassion, and generosity) but really, he mentions about both of his wives’ kindness and I think that it’s terribly important to him.

UNATTRACTIVE  PHYSICAL  TRAITS: Kenshin is essentially a traditional guy. I think that he’d miss his woman’s long hair if she cut it.

UNATTRACTIVE  PERSONALITY  TRAITS: Homicidal ideation? But seriously, selfishness and generally people that are users.

IDEAL  DATE: Something quiet and private, like a walk or stargazing.

DO  THEY  HAVE  A  TYPE: Eh, at their essence he wants a kind woman, but outside of that, Kaoru and Tomoe are like the sun and the moon. 

AVERAGE  RELATIONSHIP  LENGTH: A lifetime. Kenshin doesn’t give the vibe that he’s interested in a short term relationship.

PREFERRED  NON-SEXUAL  INTIMACY: Grooming. I headcanon that Kenshin adores bathing together and getting his hair brushed.

Translation: “Rurouni Kenshi, Hokkaido Arc” Chapter 07 Preview (Spoilers!)

Here is your preview for this month’s chapter of “Rurouni Kenshin”. Just for reference, I don’t really know the names in this one well so I’m not going to add them. Spoilers ahead!

Kenshin: “Hm”

Eiji: “What is it?”

Kenshin: “No, you’ve been a big help”

Kenshin: “You’ve gotten big, Eiji”

Eiji: “It’s all thanks you to, Himura-sensei”

Kenshin: “I’d like you to quit calling me ‘sensei’, it don’t suit me”

Kenshin: “So it’s been five years, huh…”

Eiji: “Yes, sir”

Afterwards, Shingetsu Village continued losing people(*1) until it finally died out less than 3 years later

Since I had no relatives, I was taken in by Saitou-sensei’s wife in Aizu

I lived there working in the family trade until I turned 17 years old

Man: “You want to become a soldier?”

Eiji: “Yes, sir. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I heard that you can apply 17”

Eiji: “And I became a soldier”

Eiji: “I wanted to become like Saitou-sensei and like you, Himura-sen…I mean, Himura-san”

Eiji: “And crush evildoers by my own hand”

Kenshin’s Mental health

This post is going to be super heavy and cover topics like serious untreated mental illness, suicide and self-harm! If this is not for you do not read!

Major depressive disorder and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) have been with him since almost the beginning. Started with the deaths of his parents and brothers, dreams filled with their scared and pained moaning, their bloated rotting bodies as he had been too young and small to move them. that horrific smell of them laying in their own feces as they died of dehydration, begging any power not to let them die. They hadn’t been spared.

He’s left with survivors guilt.

No one wanted the half-foreign boy, the sole of the only survivors of an epidemic that had claimed most the small mountain village. He was sold to slavers. Particular slavers, ones with only female slaves. It was clear the work they were doing. Slaves who hit him abused him, and for a small boy called feminine in look, unable to defend himself against those larger, stronger and morally deprived…

His self-esteem and self-worth were obliterated in his year with them. He became so complacent in their treatment, knowing if he just silently bore it they would go easier on him, they kept him longer then the other girls, claiming they were waiting for him to be of a sellable age, as no establishment would buy a child this young, this small. 

Then they are all slaughtered brutally in front of his eyes. Another case of survivors guilt.

Hiko picks up this filthy boy, hands ruined from digging graves barehanded. Beaten, abused, touched and humiliated. He has nightmares almost every night. In the day occasionally living memories (the name the flashbacks had been given) also came. this is probably a huge part of why apparently in canon he wet his bed until he was eleven.

Then he runs off, desperate to prove himself and make a difference. He becomes an assassin and soilder, and this work truly destroys what is left. 

He was so young when the work started and to cope his mind started splitting. He comes out of the whole ordeal with probably some form of DID, where he desperately tries to force himself as far away from the battosai he had been as possible, forging a new person. the humble Kenshin. 

Obviously, this doesn’t work well. The Battosai still lives. He still comes out, and he’s angry and wants to kill. 

Kenshin disassociates often, both into becoming Battosai and a normal out of body disconnecting from everything and everyone around him. His most reliable form of coping with this, and bringing himself back to the moment. Self-harm.

cutting himself is the most common, on the backward blade edge of the sakabatou. But he has also been known to punch himself or hard objects, and the rarest occasions he has tried to burn himself, but that is less effective for him. 

He’s come to see his own life, and body worthless. He hates himself, and his work, and his hands particularly. He’s developed a savior/martyr complex, he will save anyone even if it means he may die. He doesnt care if he dies, he wants to die. Battosai wants him to die. It’s the only thing they agree on. 

He’s tried to kill himself several times, when he wasyounger, fresh out of the bakumatsu and before he fully dedicated his life to being a tool of others, to save them.  He’s never cinsidered himself a person. Not anymore.

Nightmares and flashbacks still plauge him, and he often will go days without sleep, the longer he does without sleep the worse the flashbacks get, and on the longer stints he will also halluciante. On times like this he will try anything just to get to sleep.

He’s afraid of loss. Of illness, of loss of control, and he lets his anxieties and fears and illnesses control him. they are untreated, and he feels he deserves this suffering on some level. so he refuses to ask for help. 

though, im sure more then enough people have picked up on it.
