“what the hell is platinumhugen” platinumhugen ordian is a 24-episode original mecha series released in 2000 and directed by masami obari, the director of bravern! it’s got cool robot fights, pilots who experience The Horrors Of War, great humor, compelling characters with some mystery to them, and twists and turns which had me fully gripped not even a third of the way into the show. here is mr. ordian himself:

“i heard that show was confusing” so y’all know how bravern’s official subs had a fair number of issues with them, ranging from goofed-up proper nouns to legitimate translation errors which impede audience understanding of the show? WELL unfortunately that is par for the course when it comes to obari’s past directorial work as well, and ordian got the shortest end of the stick by having no official subs at all. what’s out there right now are autotranslated crabsticks, hence the confusion 😔

HOWEVER!!! my friend has been working really hard over the last 5-ish months to improve the situation overall, and has already done great work with fighting game OVA adaptations voltage fighter gowcaizer and battle arena toshinden, original (and unfortunately unfinished) OVA choushin hime dangaizer 3, voice drama adaptation voogie’s angel (as well as new subs for the movie version, for the very first time!!), and OF COURSE original tv anime virus buster serge, gravion, and gravion zwei!!!

personally i think bravern fans should check out the [Sand] fansubs for any and all of these, even if you have seen other versions of them 😊 i already loved gravion with my whole heart, but these subs allowed me to love and understand it even more by including context, foreshadowing, and motifs that existing translations completely missed. SO if you do like them, and ESPECIALLY if you like ordian when it’s up and want to see more of it, consider sharing it with more people or reaching out if you think you could help with translation!!! enjoy the robots and their dudes!!!
