so fascinating how conclave deliberately avoids benitez directly gendering himself ("some would say my chromosomes would define me as being a woman, and yet, I am also as you see me." - he does not say 'a man' here, even though he could have. "I know what it's like to exist between the world's certainties"), and then fic writers will turn around and be like, "so, he identifies as a man". people will see a lack or even rejection of binaries and then go out of their way to force it into a binary anyway, even when the film itself is specifically about embracing a lack of certainty.

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.
