Your parents are not "narcissists". They're typical authoritarian assholes who treat you like their property because society allows them to.

Your ex boyfriend is not a "narcissist". He's a typical misogynistic douchebag who treats women like shit because society allows him to.

Your boss is not a "narcissist". They're a typical classist dipshit who thinks workers' entire purpose in life is to generate profit because society allows them to.

And even if they happen to be a "narcissist", that's not what gave them the power to get away with abuse.

So stop blaming mental illness and start blaming society's normalization of abuse. Stop acting like someone has to have a mental illness in order to do something cruel when ordinary people have been doing atrocious things since forever.

Like it cannot be overstated how collective change is built by a collection of small, sustained individual actions. You giving what you can to one person, you helping one person when you can, you communicating with one person, sharing with one person, everything, it all adds up. That is how we build community. Its not big and dramatic and all at once. It is mundane but continuous.

it pains me to think we’ll continue to make the world more cruel than it ever needed to be. having chronic severe major depression in this current sociopolitical-economic environment has undeniably filled me with more empathy than my heart has to bear. the paradox of absolutely loathing every waking moment and wanting more than anything to live a life that lights your bones on fire is something that tends to keep me up at night. it exhausts me to hear people say that life just fucking has to be this way. we allow things to be this way. in every piece of art is the dream of something more and something better. is it that we can only dream? i’ve never quite wanted to be alive, but i have always wanted life to be more than this. if not for me then at least for everyone else.

are u ever sick w longing. and i don't just mean romantic longing. i mean longing for a place you barely get to see, longing for friends you no longer have, longing for feelings you might have left behind in your childhood, longing for creativity, longing for a rich and more expansive life, longing for less inhibition. longing for more passion. longing for ur life to be so incandescent w something it thaws all the frost in ur bones. are u ever so consumed w it it rends ur heart in two. do u understand me
