You can tell when an academic writer has never actually read any superhero comics and is basing their thesis entirely on things that other people have written about them when they’re like “the problem with superheroes is that rich white men dressing up like funny animals and beating up poor brown people is a fascist power fantasy”, because not only is that rarely an accurate description of any given superhero comic, there are also any number of much more fucked up things about contemporary mainstream superhero comics that they’re totally overlooking.
