Imagine Arthur asking Merlin to show him some of his magic after finding out about it. Merlin decides to go for that dancing flame-thing because it's not threatening and it also looks beautiful. merlin, the knights, morgana and gwen regularly get together for game night or whatever and they decide to play “i’ll drink if” (i made it up just now)

i’ll drink if: everyone sits in a circle and you go around and say something starting with “i’ll drink if…” and if that statement applies to someone they have to drink.

ie. i’ll drink if my socks currently have holes in them, i’ll drink if i’ve already showered today, etc etc

(lowkey just never have i ever but tbh the wording of that game confuses me)

some of the statements are completely normal (leon, percival, lancelot, maybe elyan), some are a little risqué (gwen, merlin, maybe elyan) and some are completely unhinged (gwaine and morgana)

The two parter “king uther fucks a troll” episode of Merlin is truly such a fine piece of absurdist television. Morgana is already “evil” at this point. Merlin and morgana both hate uther. Uther is a really dark character for the rest of the show. The amount of vision is takes to have him be under a spell where he’s like “I LOVE this troll! She is beautiful! Stop being mean to her” while every other character is united for once being like “please please stop fucking the troll! She doesn’t like you! She’s tricking you!”

Necromancer au.

In which it was totally normal in society to raise the dead back to life. They didn't really have souls, but the bodies could work. And some families were so small, and so overwhelmed with kids and work, that necromancers would temporarily bring back the dead to help out.

There were requirements for this, of course. The dead would have to have written a testament (which they all did), including a request. The person asking for it had to be related to the dead. And there had to be specific circumstances. The dead were also wearing masks, so they would not be mistaken for the living (and also to hide the smell).

Merlin was different. He was five when he'd died. Even then, people had known he would become a necromancer. Which was terrifying since Uther had made the practice illegal.

Merlin revived himself after death, shocking his mother to no end.

After that, he was no longer the same. Merlin had a soul, resisted the mask, and found herbs to keep his body from wilting away (with magic). He even managed to grow up somehow.

But his eyes had the haunting stare that only the dead could muster.

Curses didn't work on him anymore. He was stronger than the average person and felt no pain.

This Merlin goes to Camelot not to learn how to use his powers but to learn how to break the spell before the last book about the knowledge was burned.

That Merlin still becomes Arthur's manservant.
