Fight for the Cliff Badge

Once out of the Glittering Cave, Houdini teleported us back to Ambrette Town without further incident. Before leaving the cave once and for all, we discovered an Old Amber fossil, but still feeling a bit of angst against the researcher and his disregard for our fallen comrade, we made a trail for Cyllage City.

On the path to Cyllage City, I decided to leave Ricochet & Jericho in the PC, bringing Montezuma & Radiohead along for some training along the coast. After a handful of trainer battles and wild Pokemon encounters for each, our training paid off in evolutions for both Pokemon.

Finally reaching Cyllage City, we stepped into a bike shop and won a bicycle after answering a single question. Not wanting to wait much longer, we headed up the hill to the Cyllage City Gym. Meeting the gym leader, Grant, we promptly entered the gym and began the tedious work of climbing our way up, while battling the occasional trainer now and then, to the gym leader.

After finally reaching the top, the battle began. Grant's Amaura faced off against Jericho, and with some quick Dragon Rage attacks in succession, Jericho easily claimed victory. Once Grant's Tyrunt took the field, I switched Jericho for Gaia, and the battle was won with a single Fairy Wind attack. With the battle won, and the Cliff Badge in hand, we made our way to the hotel to recuperate after the day's events.

A Loss to Fire

Receiving the Old Rod in the Ambrette Aquarium, we back tracked a bit to Parfum Palace and caught a Magicarp. I named him Leviathan in hopes that he'll be able to reach his max potential.

Returning to Ambrette Town, the team and I started down Route 9 once more towards the Glittering Cave. With some minor skirmishes here and there with wild Pokemon, we finally made it to the cave's entrance. Our first encounter inside was with a Mawile. After a harsh encounter, we added Cruella to the family and sent her off to the PC.

After exploring the cave further, we entered a large open cavern, and were promptly attacked by a man in an orange suit, claiming to be a part of some group called "Team Flare". Defeating him, and meeting a woman of Team Flare as well, it was pretty clear they weren't the good guys in this scenario. Serena joined me as we took on a pair of Team Flare grunts, and to my agony, the constant battles and a critical hit left Fantasia to weak to carry on, and we lost her.

With revenge on my mind, Yakuza and I fought off the rest of Team Flare and made our way to the researcher, who had no idea what had been going on around him. He promptly gave me a Sail fossil, and went on his merry way, while the team and I still felt Fantasia's early loss...

Expanding the Team

Pressing on through Route 7, Jester the Swirlix became a part of the famiily as we made our way past the Day Care. Zubat's Roost was especially nerve racking, as I prayed we'd make it through without a Zubat swooping down on us. Just before making it through the cave safely, a wild Whismur found us. Naming it Radiohead after it's capture, we continued on to Route 8. Making it a good ways without much confrontation with wild Pokemon, a Spoink attacked us. With relative ease we managed to catch the Bounce Pokemon, naming her Umbridge.

After reaching Ambrette Town, Serena & I started to learn more out fossils and a possible connection to mega evolution, although the researchers didn't seem to know anything more about mega evolution than we did. We were told a researcher still digging around in the Glittering Cave might be able to help us, so with that, we began to explore Route 9.

Along Route 9, we encountered a Hippopotas. Adding the Hippo Pokemon, Fantasia, to the team and letting Waspenator take a break from battles, our quest to the Glittering Cave continues!

Waking a Sleeping Giant

Training through the evening and early this morning bad off for us all. Jericho, Houdini & Gaia all managed to evolve, and with that, we finished the rest of the way to Camphrier Town.

Upon arriving, we went into Shabboneau Castle with Shauna, and after finding out something was amiss along Route 7, found a giant Snorlax fast asleep and blocking the path. With a quick detour to Parfum Palace, Shauna & I managed to recover a Poke Flute to help with the Snorlax problem.

On the return trip through Route 6, a pair of trainers ambushed me into a doubles battle. Things were getting a bit hairy for Gaia & Waspenator at first, with Waspenator's health reaching critical levels. With a quick switch to Jericho, the battle was finally won with no losses, fortunately. Making our way a little further we encountered a wild Oddish, and after a short brawl in the tall grass, Montezuma joined us, being sent to the PC for the time being.

Finally returning to Route 7, the Poke Flute was played and the newly awakened, and very angry, Snorlax attacked. Jericho was able to keep the Sleeping Pokemon at bay and eventually chase it away and off the path. With that victory aside, we teleported back to Camphrier Town's Pokemon Center to heal and rest up. We'll be spending the night in the hotel before moving on any further. It's been an eventful day, to say the least.

The Show Must Go On

Leaving the Santalune Gym after losing Havok was rough, but we had to move on and make our way to Professor Sycamore's lab in Lumiose City. Without hesitation, a wild Flabebe found us as we made our way through Route 4. Gaia, as I've nicknamed her, brought our numbers back to 5, but there's still a hole left in the team from Havok's loss.

Meeting with Professor Sycamore, Ricochet's Rollout easily handled the Professor's Pokemon in a small battle. With that, the Professor gave me a Charmander, who I named Jericho. Serena then issued an official rivalry between us to see who could grow to be the strongest Pokemon trainer.

Along with Jericho, the Professor also gave me a stone called Charizardite X. He said it had something to do with Mega Evolution, a new form of Pokemon evolution in battle. He then asked if we could investigate Camphrier Town for further information about Mega Evolution.

Entering Route 5, we had an unexpected surprise that helped raise the team's spirits. Our first Pokemon encounter on Route 5 was a wild Abra, and with a quick throw of a great ball, Houdini joined our family. 

Icarus is now taking a break from the journey as Ricochet, Jericho, Yakuza, Waspenator, Gaia, and now Houdini & I begin training a little more before reaching Camphrier Town. We'll make camp along Route 5 for lunch and stay the night. We'll see what there is to find in Camphrier Town tomorrow.

Santalune City Gym

We went straight to work with some light training this morning, and to my surprised Waspenator evolved much sooner than expected! With Waspenator's evolution into Beedrill, the team and I were ready to take on the Santalune City Gym!

Icarus made short work of the 3 bug trainers before finally making our way to Viola herself. Yakuza was able to bring Viola's Surskit down after a bit of a fight. Once Viola's Vivillion hit the field, Havok wanted a go at it first. With the Vivillion's Infestation eating away at Havok's health, things were getting a bit hectic. But, we only needed one more Thundershock to hit and the match would be ours. That's when things went terribly wrong. Viola used a potion to recover Vivillion's health. With only one move left to make, and no way to recall my electric friend, Havok gave everything he had in one final Thundershock, before succumbing to the Infestation that plagued him.

Icarus took to the field with a vengeance, and avenged our fallen friend. Even with the battle won, it was a bittersweet victory. R.I.P Havok. I'm sorry I couldn't save you. ='(

The Nuzlocke Challenge begins!

At a flip of a coin, the fates decided that Ricochet, a Chespin, would be my starter Pokemon for the dangerous journey ahead. Icarus, my Fletchling companion, was caught along Route 2 and Waspenator, a Kakuna, was found within the Santalune Forest. Our small family was growing fast.

After many a close call within the forest, and Icarus nearly meeting death early on several occasions, we managed to find our way out. Havok the Pikachu joined the team early on Route 3.

After a quick stop by the Pokemon Center, I went in search for a 5th team member along Route 22. With some luck, our first encounter was with a Psyduck. Ricochet expertly subdued our new team member, now nicknamed Yakuza, and brought our numbers to 5.

With some training, Havok & Yakuza should be ready to help face the Santalune City Gym tomorrow. Icarus will be the star playing against Gym Leader Viola and her bug-types. Ricochet will be sitting the gym battles out; it's not worth risking his life to throw him in the field against Vivillion even with Rollout in his arsenal.

Day 30: Most Nostalgic Element of Pokemon

For me, the most nostalgic element of the Pokemon series has always been the battles. It's breeding for battles, experimenting with tactics for battles, everything involved in just fighting other trainers and having fun battling one another while learning new strategies. It's what always keeps me coming back.

Day 29: Favorite Pokemon Song or Tune

I didn't watch hardly any of the anime series growing up because we didn't have the channel it aired on, so any songs or tunes I know are all from the games for the most part. Quite frankly, I have to pick the Team Plasma theme from BW as my favorite. For me it was one of the coolest villain themes in the series.

Day 28: What did you name your rival

I've pretty much always nicknamed my rivals "Jack" for no particular reason. Blue was the only I stuck to in the first games, and everyone else became Jack for me.

Day 27: Favorite Pokemon Game

As far as game play and companions go, I have to say X & Y. Black & White have my favorite story line & some of my favorite characters in the series, but XY's game play, several rivals/friends made the game so much fun. Also, running through Team Flare's base trying to find Xerneas, along with an actual celebration after beating the Champion, made for a memorable experience.

Day 25: A Pokemon based on your favorite animal

Since there has yet to be a wolf Pokemon introduced, I'll have to go with my 2nd favorite animal. I lived in Costa RIca for a few years and saw a number of poison dart frogs, which were always so cool & colorful. As far as frog Pokemon go, Froakie's just too cute not to love.

Day 24: A Pokemon you would find useful in real life

I've spent all day trying to think about this one, and i came to only one conclusion for myself. I would want a Natu. Why? Teleport. Sure, Abra is the poster-poke for teleport, BUT, I would just stroll around with my little Natu on my shoulder like a parrot. Can't do that with Abra. So teleportation with Natu, that's all I really need in my life right now.

Day 22: Favorite Rival

Rivals in the newer games are more like friends who quietly try to compete with you but can't. 

Blue was a true rival to me. He was always one step ahead, even until the Pokemon League. Add the fact that he was a cocky punk, it's no wonder I looked forward to besting him every chance I had.

Day 21: Favorite Pokemon Bad Guys

Ghetsis takes the cake as my favorite bad guy. He's manipulating, persuasive, and all around rotten. Each of the actual bad guy "teams" always seem a bit cheesy to me, but Ghetsis as the mastermind was just great. It was a pleasure to throttle him in battle.
