your magicka reserve consists of all the aetherial energy that your body can accumulate. (some wizards insist that sunbathing can help expand your magicka reserve or regenerate it faster but studies have found little evidence to support this). this reserve is housed in your soul—your metaphysical body—rather than in your physical body, but depleting your reserve too quickly can still have dangerous adverse effects that manifest in the form of physical warning signs and pain. for example if you're a skilled mage with a large magicka reserve getting hit with the staff of magnus feels like getting hit by a truck. (conversely if you're not a mage and you have almost no magicka for it to drain you won't even blink at it.) mages are taught never to completely deplenish their magicka reserves by casting a spell beyond their means unless they or someone else are in dire peril, because doing so can result in depletion sickness (nausea, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, dissociation—some people pass out) that can potentially distract from the spell you're casting (which can kill you). frequently deplenishing your magicka completely can cause your soul to "leak"—which harms its magicka-accreting capacity and can carry psychosomatic symptoms (such as pain while casting) over to the physical body. also makes you much more susceptible to illusion spells since a damaged metaphysical body is less fortified to repel them. scary

The more I think about it, the more I think the Dark Brotherhood actually could work if it were written by someone with any idea how cults operate.
Like say they recruit like in Oblivion, they find people who've killed (or anyone with a sufficiently high bounty) and approach them out of the blue - with completely different dialogue & framing this could work so much better. You're probably on the run from the law, alone and vulnerable, that's prime cult recruitment fare, so instead of Lucien being all "muahaha you're evil like me" make him a smooth, comforting presence, he shows up and offers you sanctuary and a family who can protect you, make sure you're safe forever and nobody will ever come after you again. Don't even give the trial contract, just hand over the Blade of Woe and invite them to the Sanctuary, making it clear he expects your presence - if you don't show in a couple of days he'll come back and give you an oh-so-friendly reminder, and if that doesn't work then other members will ensure you never do. Let him show up in the middle of the night still too, just to make it clear that despite the friendly welcoming air he knows who you are, knows you're vulnerable and can reach you anywhere.
Then, all the early contracts should be easy, simple jobs against targets you're told deserve it - corrupt guards, abusers, that sort of thing - and your "family" are all so comforting and reassuring and encouraging, after all this isn't that different to what you did before, and your family are more experienced and always willing to support new members; after all, the rest of the world hates you now, so who else do you have for support?
When you're deeper in, the contracts start getting more difficult to justify to yourself, but what else could you do at that point? You can't just leave, you know very well by now that the family would be able to find you anywhere and even if it's never mentioned you know there's only one way out, and telling the guard would be confessing to enough murders to earn you an execution anyway. It's not until around this point that they even mention Sithis - before now it's just been a family that takes special jobs in a form of unspoken public service, it's only when you're fully entrenched and can't afford to question it (for your own piece of mind as much as anything) that all the truly dark religious aspects get brought in, and things only get more unpleasant and disturbing from there.

I died but I came back exactly the same. You though, I came back and you were wrong. Did the fact of my dying really damage you that much? Was bringing me back worth what it cost you? Would it have been better to just leave me?

Today I figured out that the frostbite spiders in Skyrim is a communal species of hunter-spiders (as in spiders who go out and hunt, not just wait for prey to wander into a web).
I noticed that in cave-places with an extra large specimen, it was surprisingly few cadavers and not really enough room for a traditional ambush. So how did the large specimen get so big?
Easy: other spiders hunt. The large specimen is a caretaker or possibly the dominant spider, could be the one establishing the colony possibly. Either way, it would need hefty meals. But! You never see the really giant ones out and about.
So here's what I think: They build colonies, probably run territories (which is why in one instance you can face 3 spiders who were just out for a walk and in another you see 2 spiders displaying threatening stances at one another).
The biggest spider is, first of all, the oldest. Spiders keep growing until the food amount isn't enough and they starve. I also suspect that the biggest one is possibly a broodmother or premier egg-layer (could explain why the other spiders keep hunting and why there's always just one nest).
Spiders found in locations with no ready access to the outside, cadavers (in draugr ruins for example) or who have been confined are much smaller and they treat their hideyholes as both hiding spots and hunting tools for ambushing. This behaviour is commonly only seen in these spots, no spiders walk about in the vicinity like you see in the caves with easy outdoor access. There's also less spiders in those spots and very rarely do you see eggsacks.
They hunt by sight and are intelligent enough to see the difference between their own colony-buddies and stranger-spiders. They definitely pack-bond. I remembered that the spider in the Dark brotherhood sanctuary never attacks you unless you are hostile to the Dark brotherhood. It will fight the Penitus bastards.
Which means they can be intelligent enough to become emotionally traumatized when their buddy suddenly looks and acts wrong bc I killed it and resurrected its body to attack the other spiders.
