Shiraishi getting bitten in the head will always be one of my fav running gags throughout the series

my partner who never read a manga in her entire life started reading Golden Kamuy after I told and showed her in detail about the swinging dick shadows and these are her thoughts on it (she read vol 1 and half of vol 2 so far)

she adores Asirpa. she can't remember her name properly (just in general bad with names) and half of the time she keeps calling her Shakira but she's her fav

her favorite scene was when Asirpa punched the bodyguard of the brothel in the face. huge supporter of little girl on big man violence.

she's still skeptical of Sugimoto and believes he'll betray Asirpa?? rude

“There aren’t as many dick shadows in it so far, when are they appearing?”

Hijikata has caught her interest, she joined the club of @goblingal2k2 and me who simply refer to him as Hot Samurai Grandpa (short: HSG) but she keeps mixing this name up too and calls him Evil Ninja Grandpa oops

she was very irritated why Shiraishi keeps appearing and disappearing but she also had an eye-opening moment when she realized that it was his face which was used for censoring in the manga caps I showed her

I got yelled at past midnight because I let her read the chapter of Tsurumi chomping off a finger before bed time lmao

"I wanted the swinging dicks, not fingers bitten off”

she met Ogata and keeps giving me a raised eyebrow about why i have so much merch of this guy (fair lmao)

to be continued once I can convince her there's not that many more fingers that'll get bitten off. it's probably more bear appearances than bitten off fingers.

Sugimoto: "are you new here?"

on a side note: I love it whenever they all nap together. a cuddle pile. it always looks cozy. especially Sugimoto strikes me as the kind of guy who is ALWAYS warm. like you could warm your cold feet at him and he would just suffer through it without complaining.

it's still so funny to me that in the end it was Shiraishi who ended up starting his own country (still waiting for that spin-off...)

he's also a finger-chomper as @goblingal2k2 would say, don't leave out crucial information, Tanigaki!

this is one of the pages that IMO describe the essence of GK so well. or at least parts of it. it got the osoma/miso jokes, Tanigaki the bear cub getting fed and raised by a friendly Ainu family, Shiraishi getting bitten in the head by an animal of choice, Sugimoto's face of defeat or "I can't talk back to Asirpa because she saved my ass so many times out in the wild and will continue to do so", a character (here: Tanigaki) having both an internal crisis and eye-opening moment of what he wants from life and what choices he made that led him there...

Huci is ready to risk it all for Shiraishi it seems... (also wheezing at the side eye he is giving those Ainu kids because they pointed out his ear lobes LMAO)

I love that Sugimoto listens to Asirpa when she asks him not to kill (at least when she's not looking) and just has this trust in her knowledge of human nature on who to trust and who not (lets not talk about Ogata but yeah)

the amount of times people catch bayonets and other sharp utensils with their bare hands in this manga, it's a surprise most of them have all their fingers still... also Angrymoto strikes again 🫶

if I got isekai'd into Golden Kamuy, Shiraishi and I would have surprisingly a lot in common, starting with the candy in our pockets (we have low blood sugar okay) and getting trapped in squirrel traps probably...

he's so handsome and yet three panels later you'll see him sucking out eyeballs of all kinds like his life depends on it (we love him for that)

if this wasn't one of the most relatable scenes (; ω ; )ヾ(´∀`* ) thankfully he's immortal...

"you pathetic little city boys" will always be one of my favorite insults coming from Asirpa. you tell 'em, girly! they wouldn't survive a day without you in those woods, lets be real...

I think this marks the day Shiraishi got assimilated into the found family. once you're getting spoon fed brains by Asirpa there's no turning back for you. unless you attempt to shoot Sugimoto and lose an eye to the girl who got overly happy over you saying hinna and citatap...

I love how they don't second guess why and how he just shows up. it's just Shiraishi. he comes and goes and throws up on the carpet and always has sticky hands from candy and other things but he's there and he's gonna stay for a big bite of brain. just Shiraishi things. we love him in this house.
