I don't wanna jump the gun just yet and call this foreshadowing, this was clearly played off for the lolz, but I have a nagging feeling this is implying something much, much darker

It's clear that Jax said the part about the egg white* involuntarily, since he doesn't want to play this vegan bit whatsoever. But his sentence at the end; "I thought Caine couldn't..."

"... control us"??

Imagine that. They're trapped against their will, they can never go home, they're forced into stressful and scary adventures every day, but at the very least they still have free will. At least they can choose what they say and do (puppeteer employee re-evaluations aside)

Only, they can't. That can be taken away from them as well.

And Zooble knew it.

Remember this brief convo in the previous episode;

"The only thing holding Caine back is the fact that he likes us. I wouldn't push it."

ZOOBLE KNOWS SOMETHING.

Most likely they may just be wiser and/or more perceptive than most, fully comprehending the scope of Caine's powers in the circus and knowing that they're all hanging on by the threads that Caine is clutching. Or, possibly, they may have been witness to this "punishment" they mention. This may be the real reason they never go on adventures. Not cuz they just can't be fucked (tho probably true) but because they figure "If I don't do anything, I can't do anything wrong/worth punishing"

They know what Caine is capable of, and how it can be weaponized. In that sense, they were actually very forgiving to only ask for Jax to be vegan for the day as punishment for pretending to eat Gangle. I think between episode 4 & 5 we're seeing Jax come to that realization as well. It's clear that in his own way, he trusted Caine wouldn't hurt him or force him to do anything against his will, and was proven wrong twice.

Like I said, this might be foreshadowing for something later on, it might just be subtext you're meant to stew over as I have. Either way, its clear that Caine has greater capacity for evil, or at least immense harm, than most of them realize.

*also, since when do whiskey sours have egg whites?? I looked it up thinking it was a joke, but no, this is a cocktail with egg in it, wtf. Tho technically, according to google if it has an egg white it's a Boston sour, but same diff

With the revelation that Jax's friend, Ribbit, abstracted before Kaufmo, and that he is canonically afraid of corn, I've got a theory. Jax's fear of corn comes from the Farm adventure, where Ribbit abstracted. Just by seeing the vegetable it reminds him of it...

You can also see I put his tail there as a jab to the theory that Jax lost his tail when Ribbit abstracted, since real life rabbits lose their tails due to trauma or injury.

My take on Human Zooble! A few years before they joined the circus and were an aspiring tattoo artist. I know I'm their VA but that DOES NOT mean this is anything close to CANON. Just for fun!

Jax dropping his mean girl act for a nanosecond just to slap it back on when Pomni questioned him for seeming to care about Gangle let me know what I already suspected. He just uses insults and aggression as a coping mechanism for the literal nightmare of being trapped in a virtual circus. You don’t have to like it or excuse it but we’ve seen most residents have their own coping mechanism and this is his.

It has an added layer of hurt though because everyone gets to be themself in some way, shape, or form except Jax. Because the method he chose to deal with this new life immediately outcasted him and now he just continues on with it cause it’s easier than facing his emotions and trying to repair relationships.

I fucking love this mean bunny boy. Ugh.

i have a theory abt all of the tadc characters designs being their biggest insecurities in their past life hear me out — idk if someone already did this but I thought of this on my own lol

pomni - afraid of “looking like a clown” or something adjacent, afraid of acting foolish?

kinger - intelligence, chess being the “smart person” game and all plus him now being crazy/dumb

zooble - BODY DYSMORPHIA, look me in the eyes and tell me this doesn’t make sense I DARE you

gangle - personality/emotionally masking, like scared of the facade of being funny covering up sadness breaking, like when the comedy mask breaks

ragatha - abandonment, STAY WITH ME HERE, rag doll -> raggedy, meaning worn down -> not taken care of -> abandonment (VERY boiled down, I FEEL like there’s a lot more nuance but idc I’m lazy rn) ALSO the way she tried to take care of everyone, making sure to care and include them, most likely compensating :(

We all know what erectile dysfunction is but literally no one is ever taught what vaginismus is and it can cause people to feel extremely lost, broken, and cause people to take their own lives. Raise. Awareness.

so a lot of people are talking about ribbit abstracting and the creepy mannequin at the end, but there were three things that stood out to me as really weird:

Caine's aside to Bubble--"leave the other intelligent ais to run for a prolonged period of time." Hello? What does this mean? To me it sounded like he was implying everyone in the circus is ai? I don't think that's true but I found this line very confusing. Referring to Zooble as "the toybox character" also felt a bit odd to me--like these are all characters he drafted up and not actual people--or maybe he drafted these characters and "assigned" members of the circus to them? idk.

Jax missing his tail. I know it was played as a joke, but his reaction felt significant to me. I mean, why even include that bit at all? The pan up to Caine especially stood out to me.

"How is this even possible? I thought Caine couldn't--" this feels super important to me. I think it implies one of two things: one) Caine does have some control over their minds, contradicting what he said in the pilot. This obviously has huge implications. Or two) It looks to me like Jax might have come to some sort of realization in that scene. Like, Caine can't normally do that, unless... something.

I cannot stop thinking about Episode 5 of TADC because Ragatha is, however unintentionally, one of the best examples of how isolating and difficult it is to interact with the world as an autistic person I have ever seen. To the point it genuinely makes me sad to think about her. I need to make a post expanding on this at some point but rn just. The way everyone assumes there’s some sinister hidden meaning to everything she does and says but she’s literally just trying to be nice and she doesn’t understand why it’s not working. The way she tries so hard to make connections but it constantly falls flat, she says things that hurt without realising how or why. She follows the rules she’s been taught will make her friends — she’s kind, she’s forgiving, she’s accepting and apologetic when she messes up, but for some reason it’s just not working. She tries to mimic other people, she tries to laugh at past experiences, tries to open up about her past like everyone else is doing, but now everyone’s uncomfortable and looking at her like she’s crazy and she doesn’t get it!! She doesn’t get it!!! Jax is a jerk and he’s mean to everyone but for some reason Pomni likes him and she doesn’t get it, she doesn’t understand! Pomni tells her it’s okay to be a jerk sometimes but Ragatha doesn’t like being mean, she wants to be nice to people, but she does it anyway, she gets mean like Jax and Zooble do but now Pomni’s looking at her like she’s done something wrong but she just did what she asked her to!! She doesn’t get it!! At the end of the episode everyone goes off into their groups and Ragatha is left alone, after having tried so hard to make friends and fit in and make people like her, she’s still alone, and everyone thinks she’s weird and unapproachable and she just has to give up and accept that she is inherently unloveable. Her evil alter ego tells her she’s going to die alone and nobody loves her and the only thing she corrects her on is the fact that they can’t die here. The few that might like her when she’s around don’t miss her when she’s gone, because there’s nothing to miss. Ragatha has spent her whole life systematically stripping away everything that makes her different and unlikeable in order to make herself more palatable to others, and in the process she has made herself a personalitiless blank slate with no unique identity for others to latch onto and appreciate. She has nothing to add to any conversation because she’s too afraid of being disliked to have a memorable personality beyond being generally polite and nice. And just. God. Someone get this girl some noise cancelling headphones and a therapist on speed dial, being this good of a representation of what it’s like to be autistic, especially to be an autistic person with trauma, is not good for the soul. That final shot just destroys me right in the heart. My poor girl.
