“...Yeah...”
Was he supposed to laugh? He forgot to laugh. Hopefully he didn’t make the situation worse than he already assumed it to be.
“...I...Can you write them down...? Sorry...”
Watching her hand guide the pen across the paper, Gale was able to pick up something...different. Not exactly good, but definitely not bad either. A magic user, maybe? That would make the most sense, considering she owned the place he was looking for. After a rather awkward pause, only punctuated by the sound of his own heart, Gale spoke up again, scratching the back of his neck.
“...Are you...like me?”
...Is this the right place? || Wizard and Melody
chiromanti:
He’d had his suspicions that he’d interrupted her when he heard soft talking, and flinched a little when she seemed to look a bit worried that she’d upset him. Oops.

“No, um…You didn’t…upset me.”
He said slowly, scratching the back of his head a bit nervously. She seemed nice enough, that wasn’t the problem. But this place was a lot more busy and full of talkative than anywhere he had lived before.
“I…Actually…This is a bath house, right?…I was…wondering which way the Sorcery Emporium was…? My…Sense of direction isn’t good in new places…So I’m a bit lost, but need the items I am searching for to experiment…”
[★] — “O-oh, I… didn’t?” She laughs sheepishly and releases a sigh of relief, visibly relaxing. “That’s good, then.”
But even with his reassurance, Melody still took note of the man’s nervous mannerisms, and she couldn’t help but wonder if she was doing something wrong, after all. But then again, maybe he was just a shy sort of guy.
At his question, Melody’s face immediately lights up; if anything could get her attention other than baths, it was magic. “Yes, this is a bathhouse, annnnd yes, I can most definitely show you where the Sorcery Emporium is! You’re speaking to the owner herself, after all. ♪”
She flips to a blank page in the notepad she had been writing in just a few seconds before, holding up her pen as she prepares to write. “I can write down the directions if you want, unless you’re not good with those either…?”
Melody kind of (or really) wanted to ask him what type of experiment he was planning on doing, but she didn’t want to be too nosy. He already seemed pretty nervous, so she didn’t want to make him feel any more uncomfortable than he had to.

That Old Book Smell || Wizard and Russell
@bespectaclednerd
Gale spent a lot of time in the library.
Yes, he did work there, but he also found it to be a very quiet place. Tucked away in the right spot, he could read for hours when off the job without interruption. And he liked it that way, quiet and isolated without much of anything to worry about as far as human social interaction, which seemed to change in what was preferred almost daily.
Today he’d brought a rather large volume of his own to read. It was a Thursday- an off day usually, with slow traffic -so he didn’t take too many precautions to hide himself, only realizing his error when he heard someone’s muted footsteps reaching ever closer.

Batter up! || Wizard and Carl
@patissicr
“Day six. The potion has not caused an adverse effect to the epidermis or--”
Growl.
....Hm. Okay. That happened. It wasn’t unlike Gale to go for days without eating, especially when focused on research. It wasn’t really necessary for his survival. Besides, he’d been drinking coffee! That counted, right?
Groooowl.
Okay, no. No it did not.
After a good ten minutes of internal debate, the wizard dragged himself to his feet. It would be a hell of a walk, that’s for sure, but...He was hungry, so he might as well.
Eventually reaching his destination, the man looked even more sleep deprived and exhausted than before, looking to the employee at the counter with a less than stellar expression.
“...Hello...”

💖- A memory that made them feel special
“Does it hurt still, Gale?”
It was hot. It was hot outside and he had a freshly healing tattoo directly underneath his eye. Pouting and sitting cross legged across from his grandmother, he traced lines into the stand while other villagers bustled around her, not keen on making conversation.
They all said the same things.
“Kaamia, he looks just like his mother!”“Kaamia, he’s going to be such a good husband someday! Look at that fierce expression!”
...Fierce expression. Hah, that was just pain and childishness about not being able to do what he wanted- touch his face....besides, having his future talked about before being allowed to predict his own future annoyed him.
“Gale, sit up. You do know the honor in that tattoo, don’t you?”
“It hurts.”
“...Come here.” she would state sternly, causing him to stiffen up a bit and obey. His grandmother was not someone to anger.
Instead of giving him a light whack to the back of the head like she did in some cases of blatant disobedience, she brushed the child’s hair back softly.
“Gale, would you like to see something I made for you? I made the same thing for your mother when she reached this age.”
Turning his head, the child nodded a bit, the stubborn expression on his face fading and being replaced with excitement as a handmade necklace of clay beads was handed to him. They were green, brown, and red, some with little stripes of white pigment adorning them. Almost immediately putting it around his neck, Gale only bobbed his head back upwards at his grandmother’s voice.
“Little one, why are you crying?”
“Because it hurts to smile.”

💜- A memory about one of their loved ones, happy or sad
“Do you know where your name comes from, Gale?”
The woman smiled down at the toddler sitting in her lap with a soft expression, her long hair hanging in tempting strands in front of his tiny hands, which wandered to grab them.
“Before you were born, your father was friends with a man from a big city. He would come often to speak to your father and request divinations of your Tutu and me...”
He’d tilt his little head up, now more interested in her voice than hair.
“Eme!”
“Keiki! You’re not much for conversation yet, are you?”
Gale would huff fussily at her and clap his hands together.
“Kau! Kau!”
“Aha, alright. Let’s go get food from Tutu. Can you walk by yourself for Eme?”

The Sorcery Emporium.
That had been his destination in mind, and, to his relief, he hadn’t gotten hopelessly lost on his way there.
Or…He thought he hadn’t. Actually, the more he looked around, this was definitely a bathhouse, judging by the scent of herbs and soaps.
Awkwardly, he looked to the nearest employee, and winced a little.
“….I….um….I’m….”
[★] — Melody hummed cheerfully to herself as she sat at the front desk of the bathhouse, notepad in hand as she writes down some ideas for new soaps and herbal mixtures she could make to improve the quality of the baths.
“Mm… a lavender-chamomile soak could be nice…” She mumbles to herself, scribbling that idea down. “The steam from the water can help spread the scent of the herbs, and give the baths a real soothing aromatherapy-like experience…”
The witch often thought aloud to herself when she was thinking about new projects and experiments. People who caught her doing it usually thought it was weird, but that didn’t bother her too much. It was a longstanding habit she couldn’t break all that easily, so it wasn’t like there was anything that could be done about it.
In the midst of her brainstorming and thinking, she vaguely registers a noise somewhere else in the room, and when she glances up, sees a tanned man standing before her and looking rather uncomfortable.
Melody misunderstands this as him being displeased with her, for having ignored his presence, albeit unintentionally. “O-oh!” She hurriedly closes her notepad and sets it aside, straightening herself up to appear more professional. “I am so sorry about that– how can I help you today, sir?”
He’d had his suspicions that he’d interrupted her when he heard soft talking, and flinched a little when she seemed to look a bit worried that she’d upset him. Oops.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice || Wizard and Lillian
@sorellinalilli
Gale, despite having moved to an island that was known for richness in magical prowess and fertility of the land, found himself relatively surprised by finding someone practicing on their own. He did practice, but tended to stick mostly to his own potion making instead of offensive magic.
Curious, he edged closer to the girl he’d spotted, trying to stay somewhat hidden. She had potential, at least, in his opinion. A bit like him when he’d been young, if not a tad less coordinated, which wasn’t unusual considering that she probably hadn’t had the formal level of training he had.
He continued to watch until he felt a somewhat painful sensation. Did he lean too hard against a tree...? Wait...Wait, was that a misfire. Crap.

Bitter Coffee || Open
Gale wasn’t ever a big fan of Valentine’s Day. Or holidays in general. So many of the human celebrations were focused in togetherness, in family, in love. And though many humans experienced loss, there were none who could understand the feeling of aging in the way he did.
They grew, and he did not. His family died, his sparse friends started to crinkle and become spotty under the clawed hands of age. The village children fell in love and married, had children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, who’d move on to grow old and leave him in the dust as well. And he would remain. Of course, he’d grown to this point. Every man was once a baby. But he would remain a man longer than that baby would remain alive. And he was jealous of that baby, who’d pass on long before him. Jealous of that one that would experience a normal lifespan, especially on these holidays celebrating love and togetherness.
To avoid complications, he isolated himself. Kept away from the masses. That kept him away from feeling, loving, and eventually hurting. And that was how his life was.
However, since moving to this main island, he’d felt barraged by human company. And today was no different, as he tried to drink the cup of cheap, terrible coffee he’d made, the only grounds he could afford for now without gouging his budget out. Even on a day like this, when all of them were busy, someone was there, and his patience was not.
“....What?”

Friend of a friend || Gale and Sharron
@ghostlyoracle
Gale hadn’t ever really had the chance to meet his boss. Heard of them? Sure. Stories about someone who looked like their body was comprised of mist, with a quiet nature. An aloof woman.
He...didn’t like to go by talk, though. He knew better than most that rumors and whispers rarely had much truth to them, if any at all.
Tentatively standing from his telescope, the wizard steeled himself, as he’d been doing for days. He’d at least try to talk to them. He’d never had a proper job before, and figured it would be rude to do much less than that.
Quietly, the man approached her, something about even their back emitting a familiar sort of aura. One from his past maybe, but so distant and obscured he couldn’t quite put a finger on it.
“...Erm...Pardon me.”

@tasteofamethyst
A disturbance.
That’s what Gale would call it when he felt a shift in the magic around him. These sorts of things were unusual, rare and frequently false alarms. Despite that, he felt that it merited some sort of effort to check.
Following the sort of ripple he felt in the energy around him, the wizard scanned his surroundings cautiously. If there was another magic user here, what exactly would they be like...? During his younger years, he’d come across many a hostile person, some power hungry and overzealous.
However, when he finally managed to feel that he’d traced it, he...met eyes with a young woman. That...isn’t what he’d expected in the least. Worried his expression would seem off putting, he tried to speak.
“...Er....Hello...?”

Adventures in Regret || Wizard & Henry
Gale had plans. Big plans. He was going to find a metric ton of mushrooms in the forest, dehydrate and grind some of them, and put some of the rest into storage. He was going to be productive.
Emphasis on was.
Currently, he’d gotten his foot stuck underneath a tree root and done something uncomfortable to his ankle, judging by how he was lying face down on the ground. That or he keeled over and died. Neither option was looking particularly good.

When the bar was closed, Karen still found herself up late into the night, her body too used to the shitty sleep schedule for her to do much about it now. The problem being, the bar was closed. This late, nothing else was open, and Karen always found herself getting antsy just sitting around for very long, the draw of the wine and liquors in her kitchen strong.
Maybe that was why she decided to go on this walk in the first place? As much as she hated to admit it, especially to Georgia, she did have to cut back. Alas, her attempts to curb one vice left her with another, a lit cigarette between her lips as she made her way through the chill.
Her first impulse, of course, was to go to where the winery once stood, but she didn’t want the police to get called due to her suspicious behavior (again) and steered herself away, however unwillingly the action was. Slowly, but surely, she had made her way from most of the town, her aimless trek taking her through the snow.
She hadn’t expected to meet someone else stupid enough to be out here, but… he might actually have a reason, from the looks of it? Snorting, she folded her arms.
“Ooooh, aren’t you a hypocrite~?” She said, rolling her eyes “What are you even doing out here?”
Why were humans like this? He knew it wasn’t his business whether or not they slept, he could frankly care less what they did most of the time, but for one to be awake at this time of the night...They had do be some kinda strange.
“Gh...”
Hypocrite.
Caught red handed.
“I....don’t...really sleep..Um...”
He paused uncomfortably, trying to avoid eye contact as much as he possibly could. He really didn’t like meeting new people, much less nosy ones.
“...I’m...Stargazing. You...have to do that at night.”
